Fussy or Colicky?

not sure if my 3 week old is fussy or colicky. Cries (more like shrieks!) basically any time he is awake. The only thing that soothes him is breastfeeding. Needs to sleep on my chest at night. My sister suggested it might be thrush.

Anyone experiencing this?

Re: Fussy or Colicky?

  • My daughter is two weeks old and she has had problems sleeping between the hours of 10pm and 5am. It seems like during the day she can sleep well, but at night she fusses for hours. The pediatrician told me today to give up carbonation and dairy products, and she said that we could give her mylecon or gripe water to ease the gas on her tummy. I'm hoping this works because I have to go back to work in a couple of weeks and two hours of sleep per night is not going to work!

  • Gripe water has worked well for our fussy baby. It helps with gas, hiccups and colic. Got it at Target. Hope it helps!
  • Could be reflux. I've been looking into it lately and doing research online because I'm pretty sure my little guy has it. Basically exact same mannerisms you said. Shrieking, only consoled by BFing, likes to sleep on my chest.
  • My LO is 6 weeks and had a bad few days of fussiness and gas, I thought was fenugreek I was taking for supply. She did okay with gas drops, gripe water too but she hated taste of it. End up being milk intolerance. Hope baby feels better but if continues maybe consider intolerance.
  • I am not experiencing this, this time around, but my first was this way. Unfortunately it was her temperament: she was a fussy, colicky baby and though she mellowed, she became a high needs, high maintenance toddler. Google "high needs".

I thought I was the only one with this problem, my LO is 3 weeks old and it seems nothing has helped, gripe water or little remedies, I hope it goes away soon. It seems like it's worse at night, don't think I'm milk intolerant since I hardly drink any, but pets says it's normal, anyone else has this issue
  • I am having the same issue but formula feed. I initially thought it was all gas pains, so we switched to sensitive formula yesterday and am praying that changes things. My son seemed to have trouble digesting/pooping and it seemed like it was causing pain. If that's not the case, I bought some gripe water called colic Ease that a friend swears by. If that doesn't work, then I know it's just colic and it may be a long few months. Some days are good, but by 7pm he wants to do nothing but cry/scream.
