Stinky baby!

edited April 2015 in March 2015 Moms
My little chunky girl has a fold in her neck. I bathe her regularly and dry it well. I clean it after she eats. She sweats a lot in her sleep. No matter what I do, this little fold keeps getting yucky and stinky ! Does anyone else's LO have this and what are you using on it ? Thank you :)

Re: Stinky baby!

  • Maybe put some baby powder right there in that crease to help keep it dry?

  • I was going to use it, but I read it can cause respiratory issues if she inhales it :/
  • Ew. My DD had that issue as a baby...don't think we could really do much, except what you're already doing. Just keep cleaning it the way you are, and hopefully once she's lifting her head more, stuff won't get in there as much.

  • Same issue it's so gross lol!
  • @erwallace089 it is! My grandma told me to put athlete foot cream so she doesn't get a fungus, but I'm scared to do that :/
  • I'm struggling with this too! Besides bathing her, I've found that if I use a sensitive skin diaper wipe a couple times a day that helps to keep her folds clean. I would avoid using any types of powder as if they inhale it, it can cause some major issues. Once they can keep their head up I've heard it gets much better. Just one of those things! Good luck :)
  • I use eucrin Aquaphor under her fold to keep moisture from building up. I also like the Tomee Tippee bibs with the padded neck they have been exceptional in decreasing spillage into her fold! I have had a problem with it being stinky.
  • My dd has the same problem. I use tommee tippee feeding bibs also use coconut oil and a little corn starch
  • I put powder on my baby to keep his neck dry (though I don't have this issue with smell). I put the powder on my fingertips, just a few sprinkles, then apply to his neck, holding his head up so he can't breathe it in. It works just fine, I've been doing it for weeks and he's 7 weeks old.
  • I've always tucked the burp rag tightly under the bottle against the chin with both my kids while they feed. It really helps to keep anything from dribbling down into the neck. Between keeping the rag there and cleaning regularly it helps with that stinky and gross buildup. Also applying the baby powder with fingertips helps lots too.

I just wipe it with a warm wash cloth. It's so stinky! Smells like stinky belly button. Hahaha!
  • I'm so glad I'm not the only one with a stinky baby! Jk. :)
    Thanks for the tips!
