My husband and I like the name Jameson but we have gotten mixed reviews from our family. I wanted to open it up and get some feedback from you ladies. What do you think?
I like the name also but it's about what you want for the baby not everyone else. You can take their input or not but once the baby has a name they will accept it.
I love it! If my husband's good friend hadn't named his son that it would be on our list. As for the mixed reviews from the family, we went through that with our first, so with this baby we're not telling family the name until he arrives so there's nothing they can say.
Ha! I love that name, and honestly, (with all due respect) screw what everyone else thinks. My family scoffed at the first name I told them, so I'm not telling them my actual choice until it's on the birth certificate! As far as I'm concerned, it's your child, it's yours and your SO's decision, so just name baby whatever name you've fallen in love with
One of my husbands best friends is named Jameson, and all through college he was bought shots of Jameson lol. I like the name, but maybe it's because the person I knew with the name was a fun guy.
That's what we are naming our baby boy!!!! So, of course I approve!!! We are about 95% sure that's what his name will be! It's after me, too. My name is Jamie but I have always been nicknamed James. And, the name means son of James aka my son! Haha My DH and I LOVE it, and we don't personally know anyone who has used the name(huge plus for us)!!! It's currently #171 on the SSA list for 2013. We were also wanting a name around #100 and down, so it's working perfectly. :x Also......we haven't told ANYONE the name in our family OR friends. We are keeping the name quite until the birth. I mean, we still have a tiny chance of changing our minds and I don't want to hear what our families think! Honestly it's not their choice so I don't need their opinion!

I have to ask, what were they saying? Is it because it's a whiskey type? Or, they just like other names better? Do what you and your DH like!
You are so smart to not tell anyone! I wish I had done the same and will know better for next time. I've gotten the "it's a whisky brand" or "reminds me of Jenna Jameson" retorts. Both of which don't bother me. By the time our sons reach 1st grade no one will even remember who Jenna Jameson is. The biggest opponent to the name is my grandmothers out-of-touch 75 year old crotchety boyfriend (who's opinion holds no value to me). We had our gender reveal this weekend and he separately reminded me and my husband that "he's going to have to live with that name for the rest of his life" as if it were something totally off the wall. It just frustrated me that he wouldn't drop it so I wanted to make sure I wasn't totally off base for loving the name. @LoveLee85 what middle name have you chosen? We like Jameson Andrew. Our last name begins with and M so his initials will be JAM which I think is fun.
@babyM92315 I actually got the idea not to tell anyone from my sister. We had a loose lipped grandma share the name with our cousin, who was due a few months before my sister, and my cousin decided she loved the baby name and used it!!! Our grandma said she couldn't remembr where she heard the name....yikes. Oh man, I would just brush those silly comments off! I honestly never thought of JennaJameson, haha! That seems extra silly since Jameson is going to be on a boy!! I doubt people will associate that with an old female porn star. Ha! That makes me giggle. For middle name, we are thinking Douglas or Richard. One is my DH, the other my Dad. I love Jameson Andrew!! Nobody will say a word about it when they see his sweet little face. I promise!
Love it. Some other "alcohol names" we liked...Stella and Emmett...both beers! Not everyone makes that connection and they are all names that stand on their own without the booze reference. I say go for it!! Plus it might be kinda cool for him when he's older and drinking.
This is why I NEVER tell my names until it is on paper and signed lol. People are SO opinionated. Heck I even got the Samuel Adams thing with my son. I mean Samuel, really? Beer is not typically the first thing one would think of when they hear Samuel. Anyway...
Second I like it. Kind of old-school. Lots of cute nicknames.
Third don't ask/tell people. Ugh! Everyone is so opinionated these days. I fault myself for being so as well and I'm trying to be better. If I don't have something nice to say I TRY to zip my lips. But if you ask for opinions then people will give them.
I love it! I've always liked the name James, but I actually never thought of Jameson. It's classic, but with a bit of a twist. I had no idea it was a kind if liquor... I'm from Ontario, Canada, so maybe we don't have it here?
Quick question... Are you pronouncing it Jame-son, as one syllable, or Jam-es-on, like 3 syllables? I like it either way, I'm just curious )
I know a Jameson, and he's the son of a man named James. That association is really strong with me, so I personally find the name weird if it's not intended as a "son of James" thing.
I have a Jameson in my class. She's a girl, though it works great and she's one of the neatest kids I've ever had (funny, smart, and sarcastic). The other kids call her "Jamo" for short.
I like Jameson. We had Remington picked for a boy's middle name, but we're having a girl. I knew some people would have their opinions, but I've learned not to care what other people think!!!
...I don't think of alcohol when I hear Samuel or Jameson! Lol. I do have a friend who named his boy Jack...and their last name was Daniels! I make that association because it's both names together. So, I wonder if people here the names Jack or Even and think of alcohol? For Jack Daniels or Even Williams?? So interesting.
If you and your husband love the name, who cares what anyone else thinks. He's your son, after all, no one else's. Every time I tell someone our little man's name it's because they've asked first, this is how I lead up to it "Ok, I haven't told many people because we love this name and we're set on it, so we don't want to hear any negative opinions because we're naming him this either way.." Usually people say "ok I promise I won't be rude" or "ok I understand I won't say anything negative even if I don't like it" etc. THEN I tell them the name lololol. However, if someone DID say something rude I'd probably just say "well good thing he's not your son so you don't have to worry about what we're naming him " lol.
@babyM92315 It's a lovely name, three syllables is the way I'd pronounce it too I agree, don't worry about the liquor association... It's so minor and even a bit funny. I agree, there are many people named Jack in this world and I doubt they go along being compared to liquor their whole lives. Don't sweat it if you and your DH found your dream name for your little guy.
@excited2bmommy09 show your hubby this thread! Jameson Charles has a great ring to it. I think we all agree that the whole liquor excuse is just silly. It is a strong and distinguished name with lots of nickname options. My hubs and I have settled on it. Feels good to have that decision made!
@babyM92315 I agree the liquor thing is ridiculous! Lol I actually showed him this thread last night. I love the name too! My grandfather's name is James and my dad's middle name is Charles so it has meaning to me too. I think he is just being stubborn when it comes to the naming thing. We can't seem to come to an agreement on anything when it comes to this topic! I'm jealous I wish we had our decision made! Congrats on your baby Jameson
I like Jameson... I've never had the drink so my mind doesn't really go there first, but I do know that it is a fairly popular name right now so if you're looking for something trendy I think you found a winner. At the end of the day your little man is yours so if you love the name then people will get on board.

In 2013, only 0.1111 of all baby born were given the name Jameson. LOL I don't even know a living person-young or old-that has ever had the name Jameson. I hope it's not trendy or popular?! I do not want trendy at all. I would be very bummed if all the sudden the #181 name jumped to the top?!

The Jameson I know goes as "Jay".
So, I wonder if people here the names Jack or Even and think of alcohol? For Jack Daniels or Even Williams?? So interesting.
But, really, who cares what internet strangers think? Family doesn't get to name your baby either. So pick what you love and stick with it!
