Birth certificate...???

Ok ladies. I live in ca and I just recently got married and I want to change my name. Getting kinda close to my duedate. I'm having reservations because I am currently using medi-cal for my health insurance. I guess my question is will my married and maiden name be on the birth certificate or just my maiden? If I do change my name how long will it take for medi-cal to process the change? I just don't want it there to be any mix ups with the insurance and if my married name won't be used on any documents then I'll just wait to change all my info. Thanks

  • You birth certificate always shows your birth name.  That never changes

I think she's talking about the baby's birth certificate?

@nataliemarie02, I was married right before DD was born and also was on Medi-Cal. When I started on Medi-Cal when pregnant with her, everything was in my maiden name. Even my doctor records had my maiden name. Have you changed your name via Social Security yet? Once I did that I was able to change my name with MediCal, my doctor, and then when I filled out the hospital forms for preregistration I used my name as it appeared on my SS card. I had no issues with there being some forms submitted to MediCal with my former name and some with my newer. So start with SS and go from there. Good luck!

  • Baby's birth certificate will have your maiden name on it. Can't help you with the rest though.

  • I'm not in California, but in KY and TN, the mother's name is listed under her maiden name anyway, doesn't matter if she's married at the time she has you or not.

  • Thanks ladies. I actually called the hospital and told them nothing was legally changed but I am legally married and the head of the hospital records told me I should go by my married name and that all they rly need to verify is that my SS# and DOB match. Such a relief. I am dreading the process but mostly afraid of a kink with my insurance. Almost time...getting ready.
