High-Risk Pregnancy

Preeclampsia Diagnosis at 25 weeks

Hi ladies, I was diagnosed with Preeclampsia at 25 weeks due to 1 high bp reading 148/80, and 350 mg of protein in my urine. I was sent to the hospital for observation. My bp has been normal and the blood work came back good. I am now at 29 weeks and feel great, however the protein in my urine has gone up to 500mg. Blood work, bp and baby are all good. My Dr. scared me by saying I will more than likely have to deliver at 34 weeks if I make it that long. I am so scared! I was hoping since it is mild so far I could make it to 37 weeks. Anyone else go through this? I would appreciate any advice/experiences from other women with this condition. I am very upset with how my Dr is communicating with me. Please help.

Re: Preeclampsia Diagnosis at 25 weeks

  • Heya! I'm in the same boat. I'm trying to keep my head high and not let it get to me... But it's not fun at all.

I'm high risk for pre-eclampsia but have a whole range of possible concerns that they are keeping an eye on. IUGR etc.

It's so scary and disheartening. I'm 26 weeks ATM and my doctors want me to make it to 30 weeks. Once I'm past 30 it's likely that they'll induce me at any point.

I totally get it. The doctors are just doing their job but not knowing which way things are going to go and if they are going to suggest an early induction and bubs health and your own hanging in the balance...so much extra worry.

    Stay strong!!!

  • Knottie, thank you so much for sharing your experience with me.  It sounds like you have such a good attitude and I admire that so much. I hope you are feeling well and if you ever need a pick-me-up feel free to PM me anytime.  We are both going to make it through and will be so happy once we get to hold our sweet babies.
  • I was also just diagnosed with preeclampsia at 26 weeks 4 days. Currently 27 weeks today & on bedrest. I have already high blood pressure due to a kidney disease and have been on blood pressure medicine from the beginning. Urine protein was 395 this week. Hoping I stay pregnant for awhile longer!!
  • Hi ladies,
My doctors told me i have preeclampsia due to high protein in my urine when I was 23 weeks. It was 500 or 550. My blood pressure so far have been normal. Only when I get nervous does it go up a little. For the most part it's always 113/66. I am currently 28 weeks 1 day. My doctor told me she has seen women with high protein make it a long time before even getting any high blood pressure reading. Trust me I know how scary and frustrating this is. I keep praying I get a few more weeks so my twins are nice and healthy. Good luck.
  • Sorry I'm 29 weeks 1 day.
  • I was diagnosed with atypical pre-eclampsia at 29w5d when I was admitted to antepartum for low amniotic fluid and intrauterine growth restriction. On admission my 24 hour urine protein was over 1000. Being on bed rest has resulted in baby growing like crazy, so she is no longer IUGR. However, I still have oligohydramnios (amniotic fluid <5). I am 34w4d now, and am scheduled for a c section at 36w1d as long as baby girl doesn't start to show signs of distress or my platelets don't drop below 100 (they are 124 now). They think I was probably spilling protein into my urine for a while before I was diagnosed - so you can definitely make it a while without high blood pressure developing (still no high BP).
  • That is amazing KNwilliams. I hope I have a success story like yours. You give me hope.
  • Thanks for sharing your stories ladies.  It makes me feel there is hope that I can make it past 34 weeks.
  • I was just diagnosed with pre-e Saturday night. I'm currently 36 weeks. I only get high BP when I get anxious or made. I had protein in my urine. Since I've been in antepartum( since saturday) my BP has been regular .

I am at 26w1d and am on modified best rest as a result of 297 protein and my blood pressure spiking along with very quick weight gain... In the week since I've been on mod br my blood pressure has gone down so has my swelling. We are hoping to make it to 37 weeks and to avoid the pre-e as long as possible but I am very close to the threshold... Keep your head up and stay positive!!
  • I have made it to 33 weeks and still no complications.  I am praying that it continues to go smoothly and I make it atleast to 37 weeks.
  • Wow, I guess my OB is definitely not typical. With DD1 I developed high BP (145/90s) and at 32 weeks and had +3 protein at my appt. I did a 24-hour urine collection and my protein was 1500 mg. I was put on BP meds and we monitored weekly with bloodwork and urine collections. My protein dropped a bit initially but then, between 39 and 40 weeks, my protein jumped 1000 mg to over 2600 so we decided to induce at my due date.

With my most recent pregnancy I developed high BP at 24 weeks and had a +2 protein count at my appt (2so 24w5d) so I was put on BP meds again and did labwork. My 24-hour collection put my protein at 1314 mg. I did some reading and found out about the renal diet which may help proteinuria so I've been following that. I did a follow 24-hour collection 1 week later and managed to drop my protein to 400 mg so we're going to wait to do another check-up at my next appt (6/2).

I want to mention that the main reason my OB has been comfortable just monitoring is because my bloodwork has been perfect each time. I am hoping to make it to 40 weeks again this time :)

Anyway, just wanted to give my experience. I hope all of you have a H&H 9 months!

  • I have not experienced preeclampsia before but I did give birth to my son at 34 weeks...he was perfectly healthy.  He stayed in NICU for 9 days and had no issues.  He is now 4 years old. Just don't want you to panic should you have to give birth a little early.
  • Still going strong at 34+4 and my BP has yet to be high.  My only symptom so far has been 500mg of protein in my urine.  I am so happy that I have made it past the 34 week goal and hope to keep going all the way to 37 weeks.  As long as everything stays the same my Dr. plans to induce me on 6/16.  I am so nervous about the whole induction process, but can't wait to meet my DD.
