My fur baby, we are still trying to figure out what breeds she has in her, right now we are thinking bloodhound for the coloring and beagle for her size and ears
I literally have to block them out of the living room so I can have my space and race to the bathroom before they get in there with me....no privacy whatsoever
Its not fur baby Friday anymore, but here's my cranky old man coming for a visit just now. He's very selective with whom and when he wants to spend him time. He has decided to come and join me as I rest on the couch and help me 'feel better, mom!'
This afternoon my puppy was hit by a car when she slipped out the door and ran across the street to where I was. She has a totally broken back left leg. It could've been SO MUCH worse. Our options are to amputate or operate. We'll operate but it's so expensive and I'm barely working. Praying for a miracle, here! I feel like I haven't stopped crying for 5 hours. Today sucks a big one. My poor Layla:(
My little girl khaleesi, who will be one next month. While she looks sweet and innocent she is going through a stage where she destroys everything in a matter of seconds if left alone.
Khaleesi looks like she's in time out for chewing something she shouldn't have... rut roh!
Yes she was, she chewed a part of the door trim. She spends most of her day in time out lately. Hoping she grows out of it in the next month before these babies arrive. [-O<
@mvargas12 I'm so sorry to hear about your fur babies injury. T and P are with her and the family. Look into care credit if you need payment options on the surgery. Easy approval and generally low rates. I had to do it with Toby once. Wishing u the best.
Thank you, @hoodoll82 , @lovethatcolosun , @aliciac2008. The vet said she was in the back jumping around like she has a million fully functioning legs. She's such a happy dog and so high energy, I can totally picturing her acting that way. They'll operate in the morning unless there are any complications or emergencies that would push her surgery back. Appreciating and welcoming all happy thoughts and prayers for my little fur baby!
@lovethatcolosun we applied for that and got approved, which is a huge help!!
@mvargas12 oh no! Poor Layla! They can do really awesome things with ortho surgery these days, but there will be rehab and recovery that will take some work on your part - the hardest of which will be restricting her movements! I was also going to suggest Care Credit, but it looks like you got that locked down. I'm sure she (and you guys as a family) will do just great! Still sending her my positive, healing, *restful* vibes.
After we got home from my shower, my dog, Stella, stalked the baby's room and so I let her in to sniff and explore. She wouldn't leave the room without this one baby blanket. It was actually really sad so my husband and I decided to give her one of the many blankets that we have and now, she sleeps with it every night. It's the cutest thing!!
I usually feed Samson this really expensive brand of dog food in a little container- very healthy top of the line stuff that actually looks more like human food than dog food. But every once in a while when he's in a mood he will go on hunger strike and only eat Beneful wet food. I think of it as the Happy Meal of the puppy world. This stuff gives him the worst smelling puppy gas of all time and he knows it too. He looks so ashamed when he toots and sniffs his butt startled like, "did I do that??"

Thank you ladies! Her surgery was pushed to tomorrow but that just means she's stable and not emergency, which is good. Trying to stay positive and remember that she's under medical care and she'll be out of there soon. Can't wait to see my girl!
In other news, after my labor class yesterday I stated to DH "I would feel better if we could bring the cat with us to the birth so I could pet him". DH: "Me too!".
@Westypet thanks! Pottery Barn Larkin. We are also getting the matching dresser but that is on back order until May 28-June 11th (baby is due June 9th).
Im moving its not my choice but the apartment I'm moving into wont allow dogs. I've called every place in this city and no dogs over twenty pounds. So I have to give my baby boy up for adoption. I'm so depressed. I love him soooo much. This will be very hard on me. He's such a good boy. Its going to break my heart.
I had posted before in Tuesdays symptoms, but I figured I would give my update here since it's pet related and not everybody wants to hear about my dog Toby. To those who were wondering including @mellymar, @Mommaswizz and @FloGirl82 here it is.
So we took the old man to the vet tonight and decided after an exam to have his belly x-rayed because he had been drinking so much water and had diarrhea. We also talked about the limp he developed in his front leg. So it turns out the limp is because of a puncture/bite Toby received this morning during a scuffle with our house guests' dog. No one saw the biting take place so we thought it was just a warning growl/bark. The excess water consumption and diarrhea has been attributed to Toby being stressed out by his anxiety over this dog. So...$500 later we've determined that Toby is a nervous nelly who can't handle stress like he could before Loki (our pit bull who recently passed) and that the other dog is no longer welcome here so our friends will be cutting their trip short. Toby will heal just fine, I just feel so bad for his poor psyche. He misses Loki so much, well we all do...here's an old pic of the two.

That's a really frustrating situation to be in with your dog and your friends. Is there a way to separate them until your friends leave? Poor fur baby!
@lovethatcolosun I'm sorry your pup is stressed Our cat is also old and I'm worried the baby will stress him out and add a few more gray hairs! Change is tough when it's been a certain routine for so long. Good luck to you and Toby! Also, isn't it interesting how many pet ailments end up being psychological just manifesting as physiological? Wish it weren't so expensive to determine!
Our pug mix Lia has been vying for my attention a lot these last few days. Her spot to cuddle in the morning after she gets out of her crate from the night is where the bump is. Yesterday morning she made a compromise and snuggled up to my back wedging me between my two "babies".
@lovethatcolosun: I'm sorry your fur baby is stressed-that's so sad! At least it wasn't something more serious, but it's still heartbreaking to know that the reason he is behaving like that is because he misses his friend, as well as being stressed out due to your friends' dog. Poor baby. I hope things get better for you and him soon.
The house guests have been here for two weeks and were planning on staying two more. They are getting another branch of their concrete staining business started here, so they've been working a couple days a week while here. The next two weeks were going to simply be relaxing time for them waiting for weekend trips to go camping/and to the cabin. Now that those have been canceled they are just going to head home on Monday. I'm going to visit my parents for a few days with DS and Toby to keep the stress level down. Next time they visit they will make arrangements at home for their dog to stay there. I wish I could give Toby a confidence booster shot. Poor fella.
@lovethatcolosun I'm sorry you had to spend so much to find that out. Since they can't talk to us its hard to know where to direct attention and you kind of have to look at everything. I feel REALLY bad for him missing his friend. Does the vet have any recommendations for helping him thru his grief, other than just treating the end results (his irritable tummy, etc)? I know there isn't doggy grief counseling (and there damn well should be!) but is there anything to do pro actively? If nothing else, could he go on a medication daily (maybe a probiotic?) to make his tummy feel better instead of getting stuff each time on a case by case basis?
Just funny. Samurai has been wearing a collar and bell for almost his whole life with us. I put it on him initially because he used to bully Fun, and she was blind in one eye and had a developing cataract in the other, so was slowly going blind in her other eye. With the bell she could at least hear him coming. Anyway, I've left the bell on because I liked being able to tell when he was coming or going, or whatever. I took it off last night, and all day today he's been racing around like - I can run and I don't make any noise! I'm a ninja! I'm a ninja!
@lovethatcolosun That picture is so freaking cute, i needed some doggie faces this morning. I'm glad that it's not a more serious problem with arthritis or liver issues. Poor Toby baby. Im glad he's on the mend! And i'm sorry to hear about the giant price tag...my family's dobies had a couple of spats in their day and it always cost a fortune.
The doc is going to give us a prescription for anti anxiety med he can take on a as needed basis. He's generally fine, but when he gets in a stressful situation like adding another dominate dog to the household, or when we left him for the weekend that's when his tummy acts up. I think we'll just have to dope him up if those situations ever come up again...say when I go to the hospital to deliver and come home with a new family member. :-SS

If I did that with my cat, I'd go insane. She is an ASSHOLE in the middle of the night. I loving call her an asshole because she took away some precious sleeps from us this morning with her half-meows.

He's gonna be okay...
Is there a good doggie antidepressant, @mellymar that she can ask her vet about for when baby comes?

It depends. Sounds like @lovethatcolosun got or will be able to get a written RX for something that she can use 'as needed', so the vet may be thinking of something like xanax, which can be used here and there, unlike prozac which has to be used consistently (just like in humans), and tapered down before stopping (again, like in humans). If Toby-bear is generally OK (it sounds like he is) then using xanax during stressful days should help. If he were always having issues because of the stress of losing his friend, then something that is taken daily might be better. We had a couple dogs who had as needed xanax prescriptions for thunderstorms or fireworks and stuff, or visitors and events like parties, etc
There may be newer schools of thought on this, too - its been almost a year now since I was working in the field, and the vet I worked for at that time was one of those who did not go to continuing education and always used the same approaches and medications without ever trying anything new (which I've always considered to be a real lack, but some people like the 'old skool' thought of it).

"Pay attention to meeeeeeee...."
No, Kitty. Shush and go to SLEEP like a human.
You get so used to hearing them with the bell that hearing them moving around at night doesn't even phase you. Or it becomes actually comforting, hearing the slight jingle as he gives himself a bath. But I feel bad he has to deal with that noise now just cause I like to hear him, so I'm trying to let him not wear it. Now he truly seems preternaturally silent, tho. He's truly stealth
