is it safe?

All of a sudden I'm really craving a full out breakfast! Hashbrowns, bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, orange juice... yumm! So I'm wondering if eggs over easy are safe or not? I didn't really think about it until now!

Re: is it safe?

  • I ate them my last pregnancy, didn't even give it a thought. Give your body what it craves!!!

  • If you're eating eggs from a store, I'd say satisfy the craving. I might pause if they are untreated and straight from the chicken.
  • I was thinking my husband and I would go to breakfast Saturday morning so the eggs would be treated. I was just unsure because the yolk is still runny and not cooked all the way like if they were scrambled eggs. Thank you both!

DOOOOO IT. as long as it's from a legit reputable sushi restaurant and isn't a high Mercury fish, there's not really any research to hold up a ban. I've been eating all the cooked rolls and raw salmon ones.

Me too! I had it for lunch yesterday and it was so so good!
I've also been craving breakfast food, but mostly pancakes lol we had them for dinner last week
  • I asked my nurse about over easy eggs because I love them and she said they're safe even though the yoke is runny it's still been heated up so they're good to go!
  • Team eat all the food 4 lyfe!
  • I guess I didn't get the memo on the eggs. What is the problem? Are they not good for you due to the way there made? I thought they were really healthy with protein..
  • My doctor said no under cooked eggs, because of the risk of listeria. We can handle it but our babies can't. I guess over easy eggs fall into that category. However, it's a personal choice because it's not definitely going to happen, just a possibility.
  • Man... I really crave sushi. Just cant seem to do it! Uh wells.. :(
  • This is making me want sushi for the first time in 2 years! My husband will be very happy with yall!

Lurking from oct 15, I eat all the sushi...no discrimination for cooked/uncooked. From a reputable place it really shouldn't matter if it's uncooked.

  • Idk. I don't see why one tuna roll would harm your baby.

For some reason the US is ultra-paranoid about this stuff.

The problem is 1 isn't enough for me. So I just avoid mostly because of mercury not the raw. I am sure it's more than 6ozs because my ability to eat one is hard. so I just play it safe. If only I liked other rolls as much as tuna. Silly part is I still eat deli meats and hotdogs and don't worry. It's probably more in my head. Feel free to make fun of me.

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that sushi grade tuna comes for larger fish. Equals higher Mercury.

  • My O/B said that there have been multiple studies on pregnancy and women who eat fish/shellfish/sushi and in the US the likelihood  of mercury poisoning or bacterial contamination is very very very slim. She said that the benefits from eating fish greatly outweigh the very rare chance of becoming ill. Fish is high in omega 3s and protein which are crazy important while pregnant and really hard to get out of supplements and regular diet otherwise. She also said that sushi in most restaurants, even those by the ocean where fresh fish is readily, are mostly made from fish that has been imported and flash frozen which kills the bad bacteria. She told me that if I want sushi that it is not a problem and to go ahead and have a bit, but same with everything she recommends moderation. Raw tuna sushi is the one she has the most problems with but she said if it is common knowledge that pregnant women can have 1-2 cans of tuna a week at most that a sushi roll with tuna isn't going to be any worse for me.

However, if you are craving something and you are not sure if it is ok to have always always always talk to your doctor before eating it!! Just because someone else's dr thinks it is ok doesn't make it ok for you. Your doctor may have different dietary restrictions for you based on your health and the health of your little one as well as medical history and family history. So don't just take the word of someone on  the internet always consult your doctor on things that may be possibly harmful. Early on when I found out I was having a little peanut I read everywhere that benedryl was safe to take during pregnancy and turns out my dr says to stay far away from the stuff because it can cause problems with the development of certain systems in my baby's body, but that the 2 pills that I had taken will probably not have caused any serious issues in development. What you can and cannot have/take changes all the time so always consult your doctor.
  • Now I want sushi again ughhhh

CALIFORNIA ROLLS! Make sure it's imitation crab(that's cooked) and you're good to go! I know it's not spicy tuna rolls, but it satisfies once a month! Lol
  • I've watch sushi for weeks!

Hubby's out tonight for a work happy hour, and I just mowed down two sushi rolls for early dinner. Yummmmmmmmm. Lobster tail tempura roll with avocado/cucumber and "New York roll" - apple, red onion, and salmon

ETA: Pretty sure DDs headed to bed early due to lack of nap, and mama's takin' a nice bath ;)
  • I ended up calling the clinic just to make sure and I guess here they don't think eggs over easy is safe, so I guess scrambled it is for the time being!

On another note, I wish I could enjoy sea food in general like you ladies do! I just can't do it even before I got pregnant. During my undergraduate work one of my professors brought sushi in for us to try and I thought o would be brave and try it thinking maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Not my best idea lol I spit most of it out and was completely grossed out for a while. I was sooo glad I had yummy coffee to get the taste out of my mouth!
  • I eat what I want. Including a glass of wine, raw eggs, soft cheese, and everything else. I think the paranoia is is silly. Yes it's a small risk, but so is most of life.
  • Ugh i crave sushi and over easy eggs now. I am one of the paranoid ppl so i pretty much completely avoid anuthing that is not recommended during pregnancy :( but it doesnt stop me from craving it!
  • Some grocery stores carry pasteurized whole
Eggs, which would be safe to eat undercooked.
  • Went to IHOP for supper... finally killed my craving! I'm definitely one happy girl!
  • I had sushi for dinner!!!
