Unpopular Opinion (U/O) Thursday!

I noticed the old thread was being recycled and I think a new week calls for a new thread! Let's hear them!

Re: Unpopular Opinion (U/O) Thursday!

  • I do not have Pregnancy Brain.  Occasionally stupid things come out of my mouth, but I would attribute that to the fact that occasionally stupid things come out of my mouth.  I sort of wonder how actually real it is... (and now I am ducking and running!)

I am SO jealous that you don't have it! I promise you, it is a very real thing and it is by far my least favorite symptom. Granted I've had a very easy pregnancy, but of all the inconveniences that my pregnancy has lbrought me, pregnancy brain is the worst!

Here's my UO - and I think it actually will be an official UO to the board, so after this I'm gonna run and hide (and eat breakfast).

I'm tired of the ladies who are all about having ultrasounds just so they can 'see their baby'. It makes you guys happy (those of you who are like this) and for that I'm happy for you, I guess. But the ladies who are going out and paying for extra ones out of pocket or the 4d ones just to see what they look like... Really? Patience, young Padawan.

I want to make it clear I don't mean those ultrasounds that are given as a part of your care for whatever reason. I know some of you get them at each visit as a matter of course. Or those extra scans given to make sure things are OK if something is found to be a concern. You get to see them an extra time because of that, that's cool.

This is strictly for the gals who only want to see and go out and pay for more, just because.

K, byenow, haveaniceday! (Running away!) :)>-

I so agree with this. Again, not for those who have it included as a part of their medical care or for people who get them for medical reasons, but for those who pay out of pocket just see baby. Every time I see a post from someone about how they paid hundreds for a 4d ultrasound just to see baby and then baby didn't cooperate I roll my eyes... such a first world problem! And I will admit that maybe a part of me is jealous that this isn't an option for me financially so it was never even discussed by DH and me. But I don't know that we'd shell out the money even if we had it.

I can't stand the name threads. They drive me bonkers. Pick a name that you and your SO are happy with, not a bunch of internet "friends"/strangers. You'll always find someone who doesn't like the name...so why are you seeking approval of something that means the most to you? Flame away.... %-(

I don't mind it when it's used just to share the name that has been chosen and will not be changed. I'm not as crazy about those who use it for feedback or to straight up ask for ideas. Like you said, discuss it with SO!

ETA that being said, if they're going to ask, I'm grateful that it is in the name thread and not an individual post!

Maybe not the most UO ever but I'm just going to say it...do we really need to have a board split up into time categories? Babies don't come on their EDDs, hense the 'E'. Not to mention we have a symptoms thread every day. Maybe I'm being bitter because I don't have DD twin, but still, must we?

I think the initial intention was sarcasm but maybe some of the ladies thought it was for real?
See, I'm lost on that one too. Seems like some took it seriously and others took it to heart...that and there's now early, mid and late June threads

I hate them too. I commented on one this week, and I regret seeing the extra notification. Post it on the Names post instead of starting your own. Oy.

Unless there is a separate issue to deal with associated with name selection, post it in it's speshul place.

Totally was just for fun! I don't see those threads lasting very long. It's nice to have a due date buddy, yeah, but the best thing to come out of it was for me to read that my baby coming July 4th wasn't really all that funny! 16 days late?? Was a cute idea in theory... Ain't cute no mo.

I can't remember who actually did the math, but I'm not joking about that anymore! Yikes! Lol

I'm considering 'mine' (the mid-June) sarcasm. At least, when I post in it I'm in a joking mood, and am reading most of the other posts in it as poking fun, too. It kinda helps to narrow down due date twins, but then, I have no idea why people (including myself! I'm not exempt from this!) get a thrill out of someone who is due on the same day as you. Like, I was jazzed to find that lady who also wanted the 21st for the solstice, like I do, but then she didn't come back, so that was worthless. Anyway, I'm going with sarcasm when I post in those

I really don't like when people name their children after themselves... It especially irks me when it is the same name as the mom... I do think middle names are a perfect place to honor your own name if that's important to you. I make exceptions for names where they will be like 10th in line or something crazy but I really don't like the whole "junior" thing.

I almost understand generations of the same name (like all of the first born sons being named the same or how in DH's family the oldest boy gets his father's name as his middle name) but I'm not really a huge fan. I can't imagine naming LO after myself, it seems a bit like patting yourself on the back.

I'd like to have a solstice baby. That puts me at eight days past due, it could totally happen.  8->

It may be unpopular, or popular, but I'm agreeing that the measuring ahead/behind posts are redundant. Unless your doc tells you to worry, don't worry? Meh.

This exactly. I have my concerns because of the IUGR diagnosis, but as far as most of the posts I've seen about measuring this way or that and "Will LO be born early?!?!" ...ugh...

ETA: The missing S was going to bug me
  • My weekly UO is that these are rarely UO's but more like vent threads. Spice it up, ladies!

I thought it was a joke. If not, I'm kicked out of mid June club anyway because I did not wear pink yesterday.
I don't have even one maternity item that is pink! I guess I could have worn a scarf, but I didn't think of it in time!

I figured it out for you! I like that it seems to have had a big impression on you. I imagine that you have a nightmare where you have a July 4th baby, and all those 16 days you're just like, "what the hell was I thinking? Why didn't I do the math?" Don't worry, I haven't heard of any standard OB or midwife practice that would "allow" you to go that late. 14's pushing it - wouldn't that be the worst, to have a July 2nd baby? So close!

I really did think that I was in the minority about the elective ultrasounds. It seemed like so many people were getting them, and excited to get them, I thought I was weird. I fully expected to get flamed, or at a minimum - 'how could you NOT want to see your precious all the time! Squee!'

  • Alright @amark11 challenge accepted. Possible UO: I don't think it's mean to pierce a baby's ears. My mom did it at the earliest she possibly could and I've always loved my pierced ears. As a little girl I loved that I had jewelry like my mom and will probably do the same for LO.

while i dont care either way.. i just really suggest you get it done at an actual piercing shop. not just a claire's or other boutique that uses the gun.

There's a plastic surgeon in my area that does them but not until 1 years old.

I pierced both of my girls' ears at 10 weeks old. I have zero regrets and they LOVE it at ages 4 and 6. *judge me if you need to * ;)

My UO is I hate my sister in law. (DH brothers wife). She hijacked my wedding 2 yrs ago and got a dress off the rack And married in 4 months just to get married before us...... and now she's due 9 days after me. Can I get a break here? She's so annoying with her endless viewpoints on cloth diapering, how many books she's read on pregnancy and how she's such an artist she's drawing every pic for her nursery......... I just wanna be done with her. She's like a pinterest nightmare and yes I've done the right thing and always attended all her shit (showers etc...) but sometimes it's exhausting and I want to say...... I have my own shit going on. Hmm so I believe I'm unpopular here in that ppl will say it's just a 'coincidence' that everything keeps happening at the same time for us .... :)

Well, I think she sounds like a piece of work! I don't blame you for getting annoyed with her!
