is it lame for me to want to name my baby...?

Ariel Is In The Running For Names. The Little Mermaid Was Always And ForeverY Favorite Disney Movie(I Thought Of Melody Because That's Ariels Daughters Name But My Husband Said He Would Sooner Go For Ariel) Is It Lame That I Am Thinking About Disney Inspired Names? Especially One This Obvious?

Re: is it lame for me to want to name my baby...?

  • I have a friend with a daughter named Ariel. I don't see anything wrong with it.
  • Loading the player...
  • Ariel was a name long before that movie came out.

Besides, for the longest time if I had a girl I wanted to name her Siddah from the YaYa Sisterhood. ;)

  • My coworker and I were talking about baby names the other day and she said they have picked Ariel Rose for a name if/when they have a girl. And her reasoning is because of the movie. Not something I would do personally but I don't side eye anyone that does it.
  • Our leading name is Annabelle but I want to call her Belle over Anna. We're skipping Belle directly because of beauty and the beast. I'm not patient enough to want to hear about Disney all the time. But if you like it go for it!
  • Go for it! She is my favorite too!

I mean, we've all got our thing. If you want a Disney name, so be it! There are a lot of much weirder names out there. If you love it that much, go for it! My daughter would be so jealous.

If you do name her Ariel, you know you kinda have to do a full on under the sea nursery, right?! ;)

If I Have A Girl The Nursery Will Probably Be That No Matter WhatWe Name Her :) Haha! I Found Super Cute Ideas On Pinterest For Ariel Nurseries :)

I Can See Both Because Of Frozen As Well (Not My Favorite Movie But Seems To Be Very Popular)
  • Ha I'm not any better, my sons name is coming from my favorite anime. But at least is a normal name :\">
  • My boyfriend and I are leaning towards ariel if we have a girl, I shared my picked name for a girl...Siena to him yesterday and he hates it :( my second pick was Ariel

  • Not @ all!  Little Mermaid is one of my favorite Disney princess movies.  Go for it!  :D
  • You can always make it yours, too. I know an Arielle and I love her name because the elle makes you hang on that pretty sound.

Oh My God I Love Love Love That!!!
  • I don't think this is lame at all.  If my twins are boys, I'm going to try to convince my husband that Merry and Pippin (from Lord of the Rings) is a totally awesome combination of names.

    That'sSuperCute!!!
  • I grew up with an Ariel and she is older than the movie:)
  • I've always loved the name Ariel! .... recently I also found Leira (pronounced Lee-rah) which is Ariel backwards... thought that was also a cute alternative.

  • I think Ariel is a beautiful name, Disney or not. :)
  • My cora came from downton abbey and i proudly share that. Lol.

Ariel is a pretty name and an awesome Disney movie.
  • I think Ariel is a beautiful name! But I know how you feel, my husband and I are currently in a tiff because if my baby is a boy I am insisting we name him Dean so that down the road we can name our second son Sam. Huge Supernatural fangirl here haha.
  • Nope I like it

  • The Little Mermaid is also my favorite movie, and Ariel was always in the running to be my first daughters name. Haven't gotten my results back yet, but if we're having a girl, Ariel will probably end up being her name. Who cares what people think? It's a beautiful name!
  • My 3 year old daughter wants to name baby #2 Ariel if we have a girl! At first, I laughed and didn't give it much thought but after reading this thread, it's growing on me! Her second choice for a girl name is Lovely in case anyone wants to steal that! LoL!

If we have a girl we are naming her Vivian...Vivi for short. I first heard the name Vivi from the Ya-Ya sisterhood! Not choosing to name our daughter after the character since she is pretty flawed. But its where I first heard the name and I have been in love with it ever since!

If I have a daughter I'm naming her after my favorite character from Doctor Who, Amelia. So I think Ariel is a fine name :-)

If ours is a girl, her name will be River. Same reason ;)
  • I named my son Logan after Wolverine from X-Men. Love him!!!!

Ummm... I think you're my long lost twin seperated at birth... That is FANTASTIC... !!!!!
  • I don't think that overtly Disney at least it's not what comes to mind first when I hear it. If ours is a girl her name will be Ella which I decided I liked after watching the New version of Cinderella lol. Also if We have a boy his middle name will be Bohannon which I got from a character on tv. Names are everywhere (obviously) it doesn't matter where they come from imo because any name pretty much can be tied to something and to eliminate a name solely because of where it came from just seems silly to me .
  • I really like the name Castiel for a boy & I definitely got that from Supernatural hahaha...
  • We're going with Aurora because of sleeping beauty!
  • My beautiful one year old niece is named Ariel. It's such a cute name.
  • We have the opposite problem. I have had the name Elsa on the top of my girl name list for years. And now that Frozen is so popular, I just can't bring myself to do it. Ariel is beautiful, though, whether you decide to name her after Disney or not! :)

  • Go for it! Plus in a few years who knows what people will associate "Ariel" with? Like, we're thinking "Scarlett" if we have a girl, and my mom is like "Isn't that obviously a reference to Gone with the Wind?" But I'm like, not really. Maybe for an older generation, but in today's society there are lots of famous Scarletts, and I like all of them, including O'Hara. So....

So who knows? In a few years we may have a lot more famous Ariels than just mermaid ones. Maybe someone will make a Tempest movie that'll be huge. (Disney got the name Ariel from Shakespeare's Tempest. Disney gets many names from Shakes.)

  • @bbycastillo Sienna was my top pick too!!! AND my husband hates it also! :(
  • @anorthro I have loved Ilse ever since I read L. M. Montgomery as a kid. And now I feel like I can't use it because it's too close to the movie also :((

Footloose As Well I Just Thought Of :)
  • My friend just had identical twin boys in november & named them lucas & liam from starwars :x no shame in her game! Rock it!

My husband would probably not let me name our kid Dean, or Jensen for that matter. Lol

  • So I was semi joking when I suggested the name William Beauregard (DH really likes that name :p ) Herren. The joke is his nickname could be Bill Beau, or just Bilbo. I honestly think it has a lovely flow, but he thinks it's too cheesy. So, I guess my name is a bit more subtle, but the inspiration is there ;)
