Trying to Get Pregnant

Getting pregnant?

Hello, I am new on this.
However, this is my first time trying for a child, and I want to know if there is a chance for me! I had protected & unprotected sex on the last day of March he used pull out method, but never cleaned off semen before going back in, had a very short period - usually lasts 5-6 days, but only lasted 3 & 1/2 days. Became fertile April 13th, BD April 14th and 17th. I ovulated April 18th. Next period is due for May 2nd. When is the best time to take a test, and is it possible to get early symptoms or is it just my head messing with me? Thanks!

  • Loading the player...
  • There's about a 20% chance for everyone every month.

But I'm confused... Are you actually TTC? If so why are you practicing the pull-out method? Anyway.. You had you period in March so you can disregard that. Are you temping? Using Opks? How do you know you actually ovulated? The ladies on here reccomend fertility friend to track your temp, etc...

I would test once you actually miss your period...
  • Yup, you're definitely preggo! It's triplets!

  • I knew when I ovulated because I have a tracker that tells me when I ovulate. Plus I've had some symptoms that tells me when I ovulated, which I've been experiencing lately.

You guys can laugh all you want - but I'm serious about this. :|

A tracker? So your period reads a calendar?

The unprotected sex that you mentioned in March is not relevant to your current situation, really, because you said you had a period after (regardless of how long it was, it was a period).  So, let's ignore that.

Even though you are having signs of fertility, it doesn't mean you know what day you ovulated on.  I was using one of the period tracking apps before I downloaded FF, and it actually had my predicted ovulation date a week before I was actually ovulating.  It's based on averages and it assumes you ovulate at day 14 of a 28 day cycle.  Just don't trust it blindly.  ALSO, I have had wet CM (which would normally be considered 'fertile'), at other points in my cycle.  I had it yesterday, and I'm actually going to be mostly likely starting my period either today or tomorrow because I saw that my temp dropped (another perk of using FF).

I highly recommend temping, which is something I had never even really thought of doing before I was given the advice on here, and it's one of the best things I've done so far, because now I actually KNOW what's going on inside my body.

Also...don't symptom spot.  Just don't do it.

  • Okay, I'll do the temping. Thanks!

Also, He knows I'm TTC. He wanted to "play it safe", but we had a talk after my period, and so we decided to go ahead and try. We started trying around my fertile days, because we believed that the chances were higher. Plus he goes to school and works, so I haven't seen him much lately, especially around this time when he's getting ready for exams and such, which is why we tried last week when he was home during the day. I guess all I can do now is wait.

    Hmm, let's see:

    • TTC works best when you're not trying to avoid, ie: using the pull-out method.
    • You have a 20% chance of conceiving in any cycle and it's completely normal for a healthy couple to take a year to conceive.
    • Further, our bodies are not machines. Even if your cycle is consistently 28 days, that does not mean that you are ovulating on CD 14 - your follicular phase (the time between the start of your period to ovulation) is variable and can change at any time for just about any reason. Your luteal phase (the time between ovulation and the start of your next period) is pretty consistent within a day or two.
    • For example, my first month temping was last month - my cycle was 25 days, I ovulated CD 14 so my LP was 12 days. This cycle, I ovulated CD 17.
Here is some other helpful info

    1. Take time to lurk, as is suggested/encouraged by regulars on this board and the community guidelines found at the top of this board

    2. We don't have xray goggles and can't see into your uterus, so please don't ask us if we think you are pregnant.

    3. The women here, myself included, will encourage you to temp and chart your cycles in addition to reading up the scientific facts surrounding TTC. The best piece of advice I have ever gotten was buying and reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

    4. We also like FertilityFriend.com as a way to track your cycles - it's easily shared and members here love a good chart stalk.

Of course, you would already know all these things if you actually did #1
