Need Help - Girls Name "Alayna"

Hi,

Disclaimer - we're not even pregnant just planning TTC in a couple of months w/ sex selection as we have 2 boys already (I hope that doesn't offend, of course any healthy baby will be welcomed if we're lucky enough to get pregnant - but if we can we'd love a little girl ;-)  ).

Anyway debating names right now and Alayna Corrine is on the table. I like Corrine as a middle name, but something about Alayna doens't sit right with me.  I like the sound of the name just maybe not the "y"?   I do really like the nickname "Ally" and is making this name grow on me.

Other contenders Morgan Lianna (Lianna being a family name).

Any thoughts on different spellings of Alayna, or alternatives?  Or am I just being crazy - LOL!!   We have a Kaden Alexander & Owen Scott  (both MN are family names). Last name sounds like Gray.

Thank you!!!

  • I'd suggest Alena or Elena over that spelling. Or Helena, which is very similar.
    Morgan is miles better, IMO. Could also go with Morgana if you want to stay Irish with brothers

  • Love the name alayna not sure though, does the spelling change the pronounciation. Like pp suggestion of Alena or Elena, would they be pronounced differently? @theGDpaterfamilias

    Also I think I prefer the Elena spelling of the options.
  • Elena is very pretty.

  • I like Morgan, but I am biased because it's my name. I always get told how beautiful my name is. :)
  • I know an Alaina (adult woman in her 40's) which I think looks less made up than Alayna
  • This is a tough one. I don't like the look of Alayna (like the y doesn't belong or something). I love Elena/Alana/Alena but you will definitely get people saying it wrong. What about Alaina?

  • I like Alayna or Alaina. Those are the most popular spellings. I think Alena would cause people to say lee vs lay.

    Personally, I'd go with Morgan, because it's beautiful and there's one way to spell it. There are so many variations (Alana, Alena, Aleena, Elana) poor Alayna will forever be spelling her name for people. I prefer names that have one right way (you know, aside from the crazies).

    I'd pronounce them slightly differently.
    Alena = uh - lane - uh
    Elena = ill - ayn - uh
  • Elena
    Alaina
  • Thank you all!!  I do like Alaina better, somehow it looks better in print to me? All of the suggestions and points made above resonant with me though, especially the thought that she'll have to spell it all the time and correct misspellings.  Ugh!!   I also loooove Morgan, so I think I will advocate for this name a bit more.

    Have a wonderful day!
