Alternative Birthing Music

So, we're all about half way through our pregnancies. IDK about the rest of you guys, but I have been obsessively reading about the whole birthday process. I am a STM, but I want to go natural this time and get myself prepared as much as you ever can be. So, back to the title of the post, music is very relaxing to me but I don't listen to "normal" music. Anyone else thinking about playing something like Tool or Placebo?! I've already started my list with music I think others will find random. Am I alone?

Re: Alternative Birthing Music

  • Nope!! I listened to Pearl Jam with my daughter, because Eddie Vedders voice is so soothing to me!

  • I haven't figured out music yet, but I have been researching which essential oil blends to use. I love using my oils anyway and have found some great stuff on blends to diffuse and also to massage on while in labor. I'm looking to go natural too. Who says your music has to be classical or jazz to be effective!
  • I'm planning on James Taylor because his music is super soothing to me :)
  • @sarahnakai that is how I feel about Maynard James Keenan. I love it. I was going to throw some A Perfect Circle and Smashing Pumpkins in there as well. Glad there are others!!

Listen to whatever you like to listen to when you want to mellow out.

I had a lot of worship songs on my list and somewhere in the middle I had Driving Nails by Demon Hunter. That was the only metal. Had a couple of alternative songs as well.

  • I feel like I will have to have some Jeff Buckley playing, nothing gets me out of my head like his voice, and I will definitely need it!
  • I really want dubstep to be playing because it gets me amped up so it might distract me but dh and my family all hate it except for my brother in law who definitely won't be in the room.lol.
  • Oh god no I can't have music I'll try to murder the stereo lmfao!
I need it to be as silent as possible
Haha no one touching me and just leaving me alone does the trick lol

I did all natural with my 1st Plan on it again

But I don't think it's weird it's normal to try to feel comfortable and it being silent is my number one I hate noise lmfao
  • Meh. I've got a very chilled out Dave Matthews playlist on my phone. That will probably be my go to if I want music. He's my favorite artist, so I'm worried that some of it may be a little too emotionally charged for me.

This is me once I hit transition. When I start shushing everyone and tell them to turn off the music it's almost baby time. Before then I like the music playing softly.

  • I had metal playing on my ipod & speakers. Not sure what the nurses were thinking but i didn't care. Helped me through many contractions! \M/
  • I listened to Mumford & Sons station on Pandora with both #1 and #2. Definitely agree with PP - listen to whatever you normally listen too when you just want to mellow and relax.
