Dirty Diapers and Nausea - 2nd pregnancy

I'm just curious if anyone else's body is responding this way. My first child is still in diapers, she'll be two in a couple months. Every time I try to change a dirty diaper I throw up a little in my mouth and have to ask my mother-in-law to take over for me. It has happened 3 times - 3 days straight - and I always stuff my nose with tissues before trying to handle it. It's the sight alone that triggers my gag reflex... But I had no trouble changing diapers a few weeks ago. 9 weeks today with our second. It's funny, alarming and a little sad. I'm just hoping it's not for the whole pregnancy but rather just for the rest of the first trimester.

  • If it's a stinky one I get nauseous and gag, or of its a really really gooey one. I find breathing through my mouth helps and doing it as fast as possible. I think it's more of the mentality that it's gotta get done that gets me though it.

Lucky you for help!! I'm sure that's a life saver.

  • Oh my word yes! This is pregnancy #1 but I baby sit three kids during weekdays. One is in diapers. I gag every time. Sometimes before I even open the diaper. And the oldest farts, a lot! That makes me gag too!
  • My daughter is potty trained but uses pull-ups at night and I can smell the urine the moment I open her door in the morning and I'm immediately nauseous!! I just breathe through my mouth the best I can. :-&
  • If it's the sight that's triggering it, you could try the "wipe with the diaper" move, and then you don't end up seeing much except the last bit you have to clean off. And, you're lucky you've got help! That's awesome!
  • I'm the same way. You're lucky you have someone that can step in! If my daughter poops before my husband leaves for work or after he gets home, he does it, but he's gone for over 10 hours 6 days a week so I'm stuck doing most of them. I threw up only once but came close many times.
  • YES! My stomach just rolls when I change my daughter's poopy diapers. I already knew I wanted to start potty training but this just cemented it!
Sigh! Now I just need the energy for it.
  • I haven't gagged yet but I sure can smell it from a mile away!!
  • Yep. I also stuff my nose with tissue..still gag!

My son is pooping on the potty (but hates peeing on the potty.. Go figure) and he likes for me to sit in there with him and chat while his doing his business and lately i just... can't do it. So i give him my nintendo 3ds and sit in the next room and yell from a safe distance that he has to flush before i wipe him.
  • Yes I'm the same way my daughter is 15 months and I have to cover my nose to change her and little smell to me that doesn't go right makes me gag
  • Glad to know I'm not the only one. And yes, I am very lucky to have the help! My mother-in-law moved in with us just before my daughters first birthday and let's just say things are a heck of a lot cleaner, calmer and happier. Plus, the food actually makes it to the table on time most nights! And I get to work a couple hours a day from home, which keeps me sane. Don't think I can ever go back!
  • My son is 14 months old and I swear has started pooping more since the morning sickness started (ok I'm crazy)... For me it's the smell for sure that gets me every time! Hoping it's only for a few more weeks!
  • This is my first pregnancy but im a home health cna and I change adult diapers. I've gagged a few times but now that im 12 weeks it stopped a couple of weeks ago. So hang in there. It will get better.
