Busch Gardens/Amusment Parks...?

So for my Birthday I think all of our friends are going to go to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA. Which is an amusment park. I know I can not ride roller coasters because of the sudden stops and jerkyness. But I was wondering if their was anything I can do? Any mamas had to go to amusment parks pregnant? I will be 13 weeks at that point. (I have no issues if I can't ride anything, Im generally the one who sits out anyway, I'm just curious because there is other preggo mamas going too!)

Re: Busch Gardens/Amusment Parks...?

  • I looked into going to carowinds and the water park there this summer since we have free summer passes and there was only 3 things in the entire park that pregnant women could do. Even the lazy river is banned for pregnant women. If you look up the park and the attractions there's a list that's approved for children/pregnant women/etc.

I would say eat your way through the park....that's what I intend to do this summer when we go to any parks :)

Oh I sooo plan on it!! hehe

  • We go to Disney frequently (annual pass holders) and I ride rides, just not the crazy ones. (Although Disney has LOTS of tame kid rides so that is easier there.) it has been a while since I have been to BG Williamsburg but i remember lots of options outside of coasters and such...

I'm going to Disney in 2 weeks (I'll be 9 weeks pregnant) and my doctor told me during the first trimester there are no restrictions as long as the ride doesn't press on or injure my belly. I'm still going to be cautious and probably not ride the roller coasters anyway just because it worries me, but he was very easy going about it. He said by 12 weeks, then you need to be careful.

Yea thats what I will was thinking. I will be a day shy of 13 weeks when we go so I'm just going to steer clear.

  • We're going to silver dollar city this weekend. I'm just going to shop and eat my way through. :)
  • @MrsPowers124 even the lazy river. I also checked several other water parks near us and the only approved place for pregnant women is the freaking toddler area. No lazy river, no wave pool, etc. So disappointing!
  • @rbradshaw77 WOW! That is craziness!  I'd still be going in the lazy river lol :P

This may be a dumb question. But why can't you go in the lazy river or wave pool if it's ok to go in the ocean with waves? Is it because of the chemicals?
  • Who knows...Its the waterparks rule. Its more than likely due to them not wanting to be sued so they are being overly cautious I would assume. @sdw84

  • I just went to Disney World's Epcot yesterday! It's a great place to ride while pregnant. So many tame, easy but great rides.. We live in Orlando close to the Bush Gardens Tampa and as far as I remember, most of the rides are pretty jerky and rough. Lots of roller coasters and upside down rides.. Come to Orlando! Tons of stuff to do at Disney :)
  • I think it has to do with liability. There's only 3 of 12 rides I can go on with my toddler in the "snoopy zone". I can't even go on the toddler "roller coasters" according to the park information. The only approved rides on the baby train and one other one that stays on the ground. And the third ride is the sky tower. Carowinds might be a bit extreme though. I did check our local water park and it was a no go on anything but the toddler zone. I checked Disney and they did have a lot I could do with my 2 year old, but I don't know that I want to walk around a park that big all day, especially with a toddler.

My OB said no to any rides just because you don't know if even a slow ride will stop abruptly for whatever reason.
All OBs are different though so if he/she is comfortable then go ahead.

Ok ok. I didn't even think about liability!!!
  • I practically live at Disney World on Saturdays. I just avoid anything that says pregnant women shouldn't ride on the sign.

I'm thinking that it maybe a liability issue with the water parks as well. The wave pool in particular seems like a great way to get kicked in the stomach by a kid.
