I'm not at the point where the doctor thinks I have IUGR, but he said if next week I am still behind in stomach measurement (which would put me at 3 behind) I'd need to get an ultrasound. I am 37 1/2 weeks now and feeling frustrated I suppose because I don't understand why he isn't looking into the issue now instead of waiting another week - if there would be an issue wouldn't the answer be to induce since she's full term? I guess I'm just having a trust issue w the provider and feel like he's too relaxed at this point.
Anyone have any insight? Should I ask for an ultrasound this week to see what's happening inside? My ob acts like the only way there'd be IUGR is if her heart wasn't good on the nst AND she was behind size but that just doesn't sound right to me.
Re: Question about growth restriction
I'm 24 weeks now and have know since 18 weeks in that they were going to be monitoring me closely because I'm high risk for a number of things especially IUGR.
The doctors actually need to wait things out between measurements to see growth trends either up - which is what they want to see - or a growth trend for bub that has stopped or reduced severely.
Like you said you are passed 37 weeks now so bub is full term and if her growth really has stopped or is behind they probably will decide to induce you but they'll weigh it up and make the call once they know if IUGR or something else is in play. Ultimately the longer she's inside...the better and that's probably what your doctor is aiming for and why he isn't rushing.
Like I said...they do need to wait between measurements and you probably aren't low enough in your growth trend to cause to much concern just yet.
In terms of your OB - eh...not entirely true. There is a WHOLE range of factors that can contribute to IUGR.
YOU know your body though and if you feel like you need a scan, or something isn't right voice it! Keep an eye on bubs movements and stay strong!! You can do this
