Erection in ultrasound!

We had our anomaly ultrasound yesterday. Everything looked great! But he had an obvious erection--I've got the picture to prove it! I thought it was pretty funny and unexpected. Anyone else see something like this?

Yes my baby boy had an erection going on in the ultrasound pic haha
  • This is just a little too weird for me. I understand that little boys get them, I have 2 boys. But I would never publicly talk about them having an erection? especially on a web site full of people who can be full on creeps, because trust me they exist.
  • I read that it's really common for boys to get erections through out the pregnancy
  • That is so funny! My MIL said one of her sons did as well! It's common!
  • I've never heard of such a thing.... Wow.

Edited: obviously I've heard of an erection, just not in an ultrasound pic.

    Lol...I love this edit
Yea lol. I realized people may wonder how I get pregnant if I didn't know what an erection was...

It is probably bc he was most likely peeing. When boys are about to pee or are peeing, that happens.
  • Our son started off without, but then ended up getting an erection during the ultrasound. We have pictures of both. The tech said "he's REALLY excited to show you he's a boy!" I thought it was funny that she printed the before and after... But it led to the word "erection" being said in my husband's grandmother's kitchen 17 times. Oh goodness. @9513SDG
  • Lol, yeah, it is a crazy thing. I never heard of it either until our a.s. It makes sense though, it is just blood flowing down there. ...We actually saw it erecting while he was on the screen. It has lead to many funny converstaions and the word erection being overly used in some cases, as stated. I can't wait until my little man starts dating so we can pull out the old ultrasound pics!

I doubt that, and what an akward strange post

    Ummmm...this.

I have to giggle at these couple reactions (not at you ladies, just at how immune I am to reacting this way!) bc maybe it's being a mom of two boys (now 5 & 7) but this topic didn't even weird me out in the slightest. My initial reaction was "...yup." :) For the record, I can totally be borderline prude, but after my experience with two little guys, nothing in that department makes me bat an eyelash anymore. To the OP, all I can say was get used to it, and just wait till you have to put a diaper on the kiddo during the same situation. Ah, boys! ;)
I am going to have two boys and this made me feel a bit weird. And I've seen it all with my current son.

  • This is too funny! I didn't know they could get erections in utero. I do have friends with boys who said their 2-year-olds get them and get scared of them! I don't think talking about this on the Bump forum is in bad taste at all- we're all anonymous on here, anyhow!
  • I think this is hilarious! Its not like she posted a pic of it, that would be different.

  • Do internet strangers really need to know about the happenings of your unborn child's genitals? I do not think so.
  • It's not weird at all.. It's a little baby boy in his mothers womb, doing something completely natural.. She should be able to tell us MOMS about it...
  • Wow! I certainly didn't expect to catch so much heat for this post! I'm not going to respond to the people who think posting this was inappropriate. But I do want to say thanks for the comments of support. Being pregnant is full of surprises--it's nice to talk about them with people who are in the same boat.

  • I'm glad you posted. I am Preggo with a boy and had no idea that was possible so early! I learned something today, so thank you.
  • I honestly didn't know he could get an erection either! I guess maybe cause that takes more development so it never crossed my mind! I know little boys get them, but my husband and I both didn't know about that!

I just find it funny, "prudish"? do we ALL not realize how we got pregnant? The baby's erection is totally normal and it happens all the time! If you would THINK that it would offend you, after seeing the subject of this thread, why would you even open it and read? If something offends you, move along, we are all adults here.

If we're all adults here then I'm allowed to have an opinion. I never equate what I've done with my husband to my unborn baby. Yup, I realize my son has this. I'm not into posting about it on the Internet.

The prudish answers are cracking me up. People post on here about all manner of private things, emotional and physical. Are you telling me it's ok to post about your boyfriend who smokes crack and your constipation and breast leakage and sex life, but a baby erections are off limits?

Please. This kind of "lalala fingers in my ears I can't heeeeaaaaaar you" response to anything remotely sexual is why we teach abstinence in school and ignore our rampant teen pregnancy problem. It's an erection, and it's hilarious. It's not a big deal.

I don't think anyone was saying "la la la" anything. I think people just think it's a little weird to post about your unborn sons erect penis on a website full of wack jobs. I will admit it that it didn't sit well with me. To me, babies deserve privacy just as much as adults do. I don't even like people posting pictures of a baby's genitals in an ultrasound period. But again, that just my personal opinion. I think taking this as far as people not wanting to hear it leading to teenage pregnancy is probably one of the most ridiculous things i've ever read on here. (and there has been many) but that's your opinion and everyone is entitled to their own.
Always hold on to hope ❤

I can't believe I passed over this gem...

Edited to add that "baby erections" should be off limits.
