swimming/ laying out

I've heard different things about being in the sun while pregnant. I know swimming is a great form of exercise during pregnancy but what have you heard about laying by the pool or sun exposure??

Re: swimming/ laying out

  • Laying in the sun is fine as long as you wear sunscreen. Your skin is more sensitive so wear a higher SPF :)

  • Yes! I tan very easily and today it was a whopping 49 degrees where I live. My hubby and I were grilling out and I got red on my arms and face... at 49 degrees!!! Lesson learned on that one! But thank you for the advice :)

Yes, 100% agreed on using a higher SPF. I am living in Hawaii at the moment, and normally just tan even if we are out in the sun all day. Last weekend I burned pretty badly, despite the SPF 50 I had used. I'm outside a whole lot of the time and rarely bothered with sunscreen, guess that's a thing of the past!
  • A bit of sun is good for you, tops up the vitamin D.
  • Sun is great for you. Just use sun screen. You can do pretty much everything you did before getting pregnant. Just use common sense.
  • Tanning/laying out is a no no because it raises your core body temp and can cause problems. Same with taking baths or showers that are too hot. Swimming is great though. Just make sure to stay as cool as possible, and yes, wear sunscreen.
  • Since I am fair, I imagine I will be sitting under beach umbrellas when I go out to the beach in July and August. The hard part will be remembering sun screen for commuting. I'm not a huge fan of it.

  • I was just talking about this. We are going to the beach in June. While I'll be in the sun a bit, laying out seems counterproductive. It's not like I'll be able to lay on my stomach. Umbrella for me.

This is what I was thinking about.
I will probably wear high SPF, layout and frequently take a dip in the pool to make sure I stay cool

This. People have to realize that women have been getting pregnant since the beginning of time. Pregnancy is not a disability. Use common sense and you'll be fine.

This. I live in the pool when I'm pregnant. Also, I'm in South Florida and at the beach all.the.time.

I'm curious if it's only women in the U.S. Who have so little awareness of pregnant women everywhere giving birth to healthy babies, lol...the Caribbean, South America, the Middle East, Japan (for the love of Sushi), Europe.

You are pregnant, not made of glass people.
