Baby Bath Products

I'm trying to stock up on baby bath products (shampoo, bath wash, lotion, etc.) but can't decide which brand to get. I'd like to stick to organic/natural if possible and was looking for any reviews or recommendations. I've been considering Babyganics, Honest Company, California Baby, Aveeno, and Arbonne ABC baby line. I didn't really care for the smell of Babyganics bath wash, but would still maybe consider it. Okay, go!

I did a lot of searching that stuff, too. I looked on EWG a lot. I ended up going with Honest Co. I signed up for an account, but didn't purchase anything right away. They kept trying to sway me by sending me discounts in emails. I finally gave in when they sent a 50% any first time bundle packages. I received all my products, but haven't tried them yet as my LO isn't here till May.

  • I decided on Honest also. Haven't tried it yet either but I love their household cleaning products and soaps so hope to like their baby stuff just as much.
  • Mostly I just use good ol' Johnson & Johnson, but DH used to work for a company that did business with Original Sprout and would bring home occasional goodie bags full of stuff and I like it a lot!

  • For shampoo and soap I use Johnson & Johnsons vanilla oatmeal. I do use Honest Co. lotion though. My LO has eczema and the combo does well
  • We plan on using Aveeno.
  • We use Burt's Bees original wash and lotion. Love it.

  • STM here...I used Avenno baby lotion and body wash. DD1 had no issues so hoping for the same second time around. I also had on hand a tub of aquaphor for various uses. Mustela bebe shampoo for cradle cap. And instead of using the body wash as a shampoo I used Avenno gentle conditioner. Sorta like WEN for babies lol. DD1 had a lot of hair for a newborn so i wanted something more conditioning.

Oh and I top everything off with Johnson and Johnson baby powder. But I may switch to a talc free version this time.
  • We use honest company for most things- baby wash, sunscreen, etc Burt's Bees is nice too and if I'm running low on something and I'm at Cvs or somewhere like that, I'll pick some up.

I used babyganics for awhile but then it came out that it wasn't completely natural/organic components being used. Which is fine, we aren't 100% organic, I just don't like sneaky marketing.

  • I recently went to an Arbonne party so I bought the baby ABC line. Haven't had a chance to use it all yet but I have used the body wash on my 5 year old and it smells really good. I do have to follow up with the lotion as it doesn't have all the "moisturizing" components added and dries her out a little, but she has very dry skin naturally.
  • Just a thought you can look into - doctors here do not recommend the use of baby powders as it's considered a SIDS risk as it can be inhaled into the lungs.
  • We will probably use a mix between johnson and Johnson and honest co.
  • I love the Weleda line. DS had sensitive skin and that has been good for him.

I went with Burt's Bees fragrance free line. I've been a fan of their products for 15+ years.
  • Stocked up on aveeno baby. Although as the kids get older, I generally get whatever is on sale. For cradle cap I use mustela and worked quite well.
  • I've used babyganics on my three year old since she was an infant and will only use that on my new baby. It's organic and wonderful. Babies r us will do buy one get one specials from time to time so I stock up then.
  • Johnson and Johnson I found was the absolute worst for my kids. So drying on their scalp. I like aveeno or dove baby.. Not organic though.
  • Honest co. Love love the smell. Sweet orange vanilla. Mmmm.
  • Shea Moisture brand, California Baby, burts bees
  • I stick to Honest Co. I have actually been using the shampoo, conditioner, body lotion on myself since I found out I was pregnant and have loved it all. I don't know how strictly you want to follow an organic regimen, but I always use goodguide.com to find out the health rating of each product... for example, Aveeno isn't actually free of harsh chemicals as you can see here: https://www.goodguide.com/products/274268-aveeno-baby-diaper-rash-reviews-ratings
The diaper rash cream has carcenogenic parabens. So just be careful with the products that appear "all natural"
  • My aunt got me some Burts bees stuff. I'll Probably get some Aveno and honest. I also have the good olé stand by. Johnson so maybe I'll be good for a while.
  • Earth Mama Angel Baby makes great unscented products. Burts Bees seems a little sketchy to me... They are owned by Clorox, and their products tend to have lots of drying alcohol. California Baby is also really nice.
  • Also, I've heard the same thing about baby powder. They can breathe it in resulting in major health problems.

Read the labels and search the ingredients! I was horrified when I started reading the ingreditents on the labels. I switched all of my houshold and personal products to Ava Anderson Non Toxic in Feb 2014. I have faithfully used them and recently became a consultant because I am so passionate about spreading the message about avoiding toxic chemicals and sharing the research with fellow mammas and mothers to be. I would be happy to share my knowledge with anyone interested. Please send me an email at macderment.r@gmail.com or visit my Ava site to learn more www.AvaAndersonNE.com

We mainly use honest co products. I just bought a bottle of Dr. Bronners from Target to make my own baby shampoo/wash though.  The price of honest co products can get expensive! The baby shampoo I am making is a combo of Dr. Bronners, distilled water, lavender EO and Gentle babies EO.  Comes out to $2-3 a batch so much cheaper than the $10 honest co shampoo.  I will continue to use honest co sunscreen and face stick however.

  • California Baby stuff is awesome!
  • My sisters use mustella so i got that
  • We're going with California baby products based on recommendations from friends
  • Making my own from wellnessmama's site after picking up the ingredients.  I have however been gifted with about 1000000 bottles of stuff at my shower, so I figure it'll be fine for me to use for shower gel.  :)
  • Burt's bee's baby wash. I love the smell and my older 2 still use it.

Can I get ratios of that recipe so I can make my own? I'm needing some great natural DIY products to save a bit and not use harsh chemicals :)

Sure the combo I am making is 1/4 cup Dr. Bronner's, 1 cup distilled water and 8-10 drops Gentle Baby, Lavender, Roman Chamomile.  I will probably do 4-5 drops lavender and 4-5 drops Gentle baby.
