Team Green: OWT tally and final prediction

i know that Old Wives Tales (OWT) are not based on science, mostly. And the old crew on here had zero patience for them. However. I am Team Green and it's just fun to obsess over!

So, question:
1) what are the 3-5 OWT you're kind of sort of paying attention to but not really but yeah? And
2) final call. What do you think you're having?

(Anyone who posts to tell me OWT are dumb, I know that and I will cut you. Xoxo)

I'm Team Pink but I think this thread is super fun so I'm doing it anyway. Here are my results:

    1. The Chinese gender test was super confusing for me. If I based it on first day of my last period (August 26) the test said boy, but date if conception (sometime in September) said girl. So this was a toss up for me before anatomy scan, but girl it is!
    2. I had some nausea at first but never vomited. Everyone said this pointed to baby being a boy.
    3. I'm only gaining in my boobs and belly, apparently from behind you can't tell I'm pregnant. I've been told this indicates girl (in my case, correct).
    4. Heart rate has consistently been above 140 throughout this entire pregnancy. Girl.
    5. I've had few cravings that I know for a fact are due to pregnancy, but they're always for cheesy/salty things. I have been told this indicates boy.
    6. I've always had very, very clear skin, but I've had a few acne flare-ups since becoming pregnant, mostly in the first trimester. I don't know that many people would consider them to be break outs, but for me they were. I've been told that indicates girl.

Looking forward to seeing which of these work out to be true for all of you on Team Green! :)

ETA oh, and FWIW, everyone except for me, DH, and my mom was 100% convinced pre-anatomy scan that baby would be a boy. And then there was my dad, who was crossing his fingers for twins, fml - I would've been thrilled but in our circumstances that would've been incredibly overwhelming!

    Team Green.

    Chinese calendar says- Girl.
Heart rate always been slightly over 140- Girl
Carrying all in my belly, no weight gain anywhere else- Boy
Eating more sweets than normal- Girl
    Wedding ring- Boy

I have changed my mind throughout the pregnancy. Tons of people say boy based on how I am carrying and my sisters says I look like how she did with her boys and not her girl. Right now I think Girl after thinking boy for entire 2nd tri. The us tech at 20 weeks had us cover our eyes twice which made me think boy. Who knows!!! Can't wait!
  • I LOVE this thread cause DH and I are constantly poking fun at each other over them 'the girl wants ice cream now, huh? Or the boy wants some beef snacks and cheese?' And I probably revisit some of the OWT every month or so and take stock, just to see where we stand

    1) Chinese Gender chart - the Bump's said girl. Someone posted a link to another one that used lunar age or something and that one said boy. A couple others have also said boy depending what their criteria is. I think the boys have outweighed the girls, so I feel I must reluctantly call this one - BOY
    2) Snacks - I crave both sweet snacks and salty, and it wasn't uncommon for me to want to snack on a meat and cheese plate before pregnancy, neither was it uncommon to want to chow on girl scout cookies. INCONCLUSIVE
    3) The fetal heart rate - except for once - has always been 140 or below. BOY (my Dr, btw, also predicted boy at 9 weeks and again at 12 because of how 'stubborn' the little bugger was hiding from first the initial ultrasound and the heart rate Doppler. I laughed and told her, that's a sure sign that's my daughter in there - you don't know how stubborn I can be. Hubs was in the chair nodding sagely)
    4) Mood - they say if you're moody, its a girl, and if not, its a boy because "you've got a little penis in you" (I love the scandalous-ness of this one!) I was upset about this pregnancy the 1st trimester, but I don't consider that mood. That was me dealing with a serious life adjustment. Mood wise I think I have been generally the same, tho may react a bit more strongly due to hormones. Generally even-keeled = BOY
    5) Shape of belly - I feel my bump is high, big and round (it starts just under my boobs, from the back you cannot tell I am pregnant, and I can still wear some pairs of pants that close at my hips - hip huggers). That makes this call GIRL

Most people who know me say GIRL
My prediction - the whole 1st trimester I felt it was a girl, waffled to boy for most of the 2nd, and am back to thinking girl now. GIRL

  • I like how we ALL think we're having girls. One of us is going to have to buck the trend and have a boy, lol. Tho they also do say 70% of the time moms are correct in knowing what they are having! But that equates to almost a 1 out of 4 chance, and there are 4 of us on here so far! So fun!!!

  • I've never opted for Team Green, but will hop on this anyway.

Baby #1 & Baby #2-- nearly identical pregnancies. All belly and face weight gain; no cravings; little morning sickness; felt beautiful; wanted sex all the time
Both turned out to be BOYS.

Baby #3-- TOTALLY different pregnancy. Still mainly gaining weight in belly and face, but much more in boobs this go 'round; a ton of morning sickness, right through month 6; intense cravings for sweets and fruit; feel ugly ugly ugly; hardly want sex at all
    Ultrasound says GIRL.

Chinese Gender chart depends on which link I follow. Ring test varies according to which time it's done (varies through pregnancy).

Now, I hope all of you Team Green participants will revisit this thread (or a similar one) and let us know if the OWT came true!!!

  • Hm, so I have learned that my weight gain in boobs and butt actually means girl (thought girl weight was "face and all over").

My Chinese chart never changed no matter if I used lunar or whatever age.

LOL! Can't wait to see what comes out! DH keeps saying, "I hope it's a baby." And I keep saying, "Sounds like a kitten from the descriptions - furry, eyes aren't open..."
  • 1) Chinese gender chart:Girl
    2) I used to have acne flair ups randomly before pregnany, I haven't had any: Boy
    3) No weight gain except belly: Boy
    4) I usually crave sweets: Girl

I think boy. 3 of us at work are pregnant; 1 who is having a girl looks completely different than myself & the other coworker who is having a boy.

  • We will definitely have to revisit this post and announce!

We have had a girl name chosen for over 10 years, and that whole time we didn't even want kids. We have really struggled with boy names. I remember there is an OWT about that too, but not which way it leans.

I'll come back and report when we meet the ewok, for sure!

  • Bumping this back up because 1) I don't want us to forget and 2) there have been 2 or 3 times in past month or so when I've referred to baby as 'she' without realizing it. Usually the person I'm talking to calls me out - 'did you just say she? Do you know what you are having?' and that's how I realize I've said it. Anybody else having these little conversational slips?

  • Chinese gender chart: girl

    Acne: Girl

Gained weight only in belly; boy

Carrying high: I've heard this is boy,but now I see people saying girl?

Hear rate: was high at first, now it's been high 130's-low 140's since week 25 or so: inconclusive/boy?

No morning sickness or nausea: boy

Legs and everywhere else are LESS hairy than usual: girl

    My prediction: boy

My family is all saying "she" now, and my mother bought some pink blankets. Meanwhile I am starting to wonder if it's a boy. People are getting weirded out by my calling LO "it", but it's just so much easier than saying "he or she" all the time.

And I don't believe this OWT at all, but if heartburn meant hair, I'm still definitely having a kitten...a long haired, furry furry kitten.

I had a dream that I had 2 kitten and 2 rats instead of babies! Haha. I work at an animal shelter so I'm chalking it up to that!
  • I'm having a boy (without question..blood tests detecting his Y chromosome and multiple VERY obvious ultrasounds)..my first was a girl
-carrying the same with both (high and oval)
-still nauseated and have to take meds, with daughter had no sickness
-HR 150's, with my girl was 130's
-this pregnancy, one Chinese chart predicted boy, one said girl

    Totally opposite of all OWT

    :-bd
  • Bumping this because we are about to find out if @finchfeeder80 is indeed Team Pink!

Also, after all my NSTs, baby's heart rate is below 140, which is supposedly an indication for boy.
Meanwhile, I am 38+3 and still carrying high (I've finally determined - thanks to my mother's strong opinion and also that feet are all over my ribs though head is engaged).
Baby's weight is estimated at a very average 6.5 lbs though DH and I were born at 9+, so my Grandma says girl.

    Sticking with my Girl prediction.

Any last minute mind changes, ladies?

    1) I love my sweets - Girl
    2) Weight gain of 50+ pounds, but all in front and back - Girl
    3) Face has stayed slim - Girl
    4) Glow and haven't had much acne - Boy
    5) Told I am carrying low - Boy

For a long time, I thought baby was a boy. Now I am thinking its a girl. My gut tells me it's a girl and I find myself drawn to girl stuff so maybe it's a hope for a girl. Either way I will be happy!
  • So I have no inkling of what I am having. I'm totally ok with having either. I would guess, but I hate being wrong. Everyone thinks it's a girl. I kinda want them all to be wrong not because I want a boy, but I want them all to be wrong. Haha.

    1-carrying high- girl
    2-clear skin-boy
    3-heartbeat 145/150s- girl
    4- craving salt- boy
    5- Chinese calendar- girl
    6- sick first tri- girl
  • Totally team green.
    Chinese gender chart - Boy
    Dreams about baby - Boy
Gained weight in only belly - Boy
Heart rate in the 140s - Neutral
Sleeping on left vs right side (Left for me) - Boy

Pretty well all OWTs seem to point to boy, but in all honesty I'm not sure what I think! Haha, I go back and forth with it.
  • slr1229slr1229 member
Yall should try the wedding ring over belly test. Curious what it is and then what your baby eventually is. My siblings swear by it!
  • raheebraheeb member
Chinese gender chart says girl, HR is always lower indicating boy, I don't feel any different and only gaining weight in the belly. All my family and friends except for my MIL say boy. I have a very strong feeling it's a boy but we'll find out in 3-5 weeks!!
  • I read about a study (not the study itself but a secondhand source) that said that mom's dreams about the babies sex are one of the more accurate predictors. Obviously nothing close to 100%, but better than 50%. Any of you had any dreams about babies sex? I'd be curious to hear if there dreams come true.

First off, this is really funny cause the OWT is you dream OPPOSITE of what you are having.
I've only had two dreams where there was an actual baby in them. The rest were dreams where I was pregnant or dreams I was in labor. One of those dreams did not say / show (it was more a labor dream) and in another I didn't 'see' the sex of baby, but I said "she" is wet and I forgot "her" diapers.

I've got to admit I've really been getting curious. Mostly on the maternal instinct part, which I think I said before is 70% accurate. Most of us on this thread think we are having girls (I'm back to girl today). I wonder if it will really be that many girls... Hmmmm

ETA my hubs has had a few dreams of baby. I think last time we talked about it he had 3 dreams a girl, 1 a boy.

Ok... Just to chime in on dreams. Since the very beginning of pregnancy I've thought I might be inadequate with maternal instincts or something because I've NEVER had a dream about my baby.... I've had scary dreams about a still birth I took care of. But never dreamt about my baby. Is that bad???! Lol ........ My friends have commented that it's weird.

I haven't really either. There was once in my first tri that I had a dream about a little boy (6 or 7) that I thought was mine, but I've had no baby dreams. I've had scary miscarriage dreams--hate them!

These are interesting to read, and make me question wives tales even more than I already did. I'm about 50% one way 50% the other when I read the wives tales. I'm having a boy. I will say I felt it was a boy before we found out.
  • @klkonwi I thought I was weird for not having any baby dreams, too. The one dream I had where I said she and her is pretty much what I feel is the only baby dream I've had. The other really was more of a labor dream, I don't consider that a baby dream cause it ended like 2 seconds after baby came out. So I don't think its weird you haven't had any. I do think its weird my hubs has had more than I have, but that's a whole other thing.

  • Meh. The only thing I put less stock into than dreams are OWTs.

Meaning: I analyze the hell out of all of them, but at the end of the day believe it's all pretty silly.

DH rarely ever dreams. I'm a big dreamer and can remember details of dreams YEARS later. I don't think it's abnormal, whatever your dreaming habits are.
