Our close friend is the Director of Nursing at a local hospital, and I was shocked one day when he told me how many men named "Baby Boy" have come in over the years. I would guess "Baby Girl" as well.

  • I live in SC and was looking up a contact at attorneys office at work one day and one of the legal aids was named Clemson Player...

Also, in school we had twins name tanjelo and lemonjelo (I'm not sure of the exact spellings).

I used to be a teacher so I would see the craziest names on a fairly regular basis.

    Those are pretty terrible.

I can't recall seeing any terrible names IRL lately, but I've seen talk of a Rilyn. Not sure what that is.

So. How long till somebody pops in and claims they've seen a La-a?
I'll still take that one over the Abcde myth.

...Unfortunately , that one happens. 16 girls were named Abcde in 2013. It's been recorded every year since 1997.
  • I just got a new student today with the first name Calliedwyn...? I looked for it on behindthename.com to make sure it wasn't some historical name that I'm completely oblivious to - student hasn't shown up yet for class I don't know how it's pronounced.

Here is an interesting article someone did, based on census records, regarding the legitimacy of various urban legend names:

EDIT: sorry all. Looks like the link won't post correctly (or maybe I just can't see it on my phone app)

I came in contact with a girl named Angel Fish.
  • My Facebook friends are really killing it this year: Landyn (boy), Rilynn, Conleigh (girl), Timber (girl), Abbey (yes, like part of a church) and then Drew. Drew is his legal name. Maybe it's just me, but nicknames as legal full names really frustrate me. It's like...come on, you got half way there!

  • I know a little boy named Major Justus. Yep. Also saw someone post on another board that they were going to name their son Kurlz.
  • I don't about yall but I'm looking forward to Major Justus' daytime courtroom tv show in 30 years.

I suspect the parents are banking on it. And Kurlz? Could they at the very least wait to make sure the kid doesn't have straight hair.
  • I'm watching say yes to the dress and the girls name on the show is "queen-jewel precious earth" WHAT
  • Twins Da'jon and Da'jour. All I can think of is soup and mustard.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Candida.

Like the yeast?!? Omg people, please use Google.

  • Saw one today. Jan.nat pronounced Jenna.

  • Mel.lady.......just born yesterday. Her parents wanted her to have an "M" name to match her sister..........BUT they wanted to name her Ella.....SSSOOO, they creatively came up with Mel.lady. (Melody) with the nn Ella. Both parents are educated and have really good jobs. When people see the horrid spelling of Mel.lady, they pronounce it Ma-Lady........and the parents find that irritating. Mel.lady Marie M.
  • Today I met the most adorable little boy while shopping at a Carter's store. He was maybe 2, bright blue eyes and the curliest blonde hair! And then his mom called him... Diamond. I thought I was hearing things but nope, she said it a few times.

@MixedBerries88 Exactly like that! She goes by Candy.
  • I've heard some bad names this year, but the latest one was Sabrina spelled "Subrina." Like the sub sandwich.
  • There's a sibset at the school I teach at...three girls...America, India, and Canada.

UGH why do people think they need to spell a name so they can get the EXACT spelling of the stupid NN they like? My poor niece is now saddled with the name Haleyna (pronounced Helena) for life because they wanted to be able to call her Haley for short. AWFUL!!

yikes! We're they going for Halle? Haley (Hay-Lee) doesn't seem to work for Helena. I couldn't figure out the pronunciation of your poor nieces name
  • Just met a student named Are.monie (with no period in the middle). Pronounced like Armani. Yikes.
  • I've heard Candida before. DH is from Brazil and it's pretty common there. But it's pronounced differently so it doesn't SOUND like the yeast. (It's like Khan-dgee-dah... LOL I am so bad at typing things phonetically!).

Nope, it's Hay-lee. Not sure how they got that out of Huh-lay-nuh. It gets misspelled and mispronounced all the time.

NMS - but India Wilkes is Ashley (m) Wilkes' sister in Gone with the Wind. It was written in 1929. Not sure if there's a legit history of it as a name before or after though.

    And gahhhh on that sibset.
  • This thread has proved to be very entertaining!

Here's a few more gems I came across on today's callsheet....

    Tymberlee

    Dannah, pronounced Donna

LaMonica, on a very tall, very muscular, very handsome black man!
    Vive Les Frasers
