Recalled Hummus

Did anyone else eat the recalled hummus for possible listeria contamination? I thought I was snacking healthy by eating this and have the exact one that was recalled. I'm freaking out now! Does anyone know about listeria exposure in the first trimester? Would the baby be affected right away or could I have a full term pregnancy with a higher chance of a stillborn?

Re: Recalled Hummus

  • I ate about half the container two weeks ago. Already have a call in :)

I think the symptoms start sooner than two weeks. If you ate it two weeks ago and have not had symptoms you're probably fine. But check with doc just in case.
  • I have eaten three containers over the last week or so along with my whole family at Easter and although I've had no symptoms that I'm aware of, I have finished all the containers and threw them away so I can't even check to see if they were bad.

I'm reading that it can take up to 2 months for symptoms to appear and they could be very mild in the mother. I put a call in to my dr. to be sure, idk if they can do anything, but I'd rather them know and tell me what to do. I'll report back when I hear back from them.

Store bought hummus was on my list of "do not eat" after doing research. It's easily contaminated if not stored properly, so recommended to only eat homemade hummus.
  • I just talked to my dr And was told if I'm not sick by now (finished it last night) that I'm probably ok. She says the symptoms are like that of food poisoning and you would know if you've been infected. She did instruct me to keep an eye out but that I'm probably fine.
  • I heard that also, luckily it was my once favorite food. Now I can't stand to look at, smell it, etc since I found out I was pregnant.

This was so helpful @mrsSchwarz! Thank you for sharing!
  • Thank you for sharing. I had both the ice cream and hummus recently recalled! I feel like I need to quit eating because nothing is safe (***said in a super dramatic voice***)!
  • I use to love it till I got pregnant, but now it one of my food aversions.

I was mistaken I'm sorry. I had a listeria scare about a year ago with some berries from Costco and I thought I remembered that the symptoms were supposed to start earlier. It's been a while though.
  • My doctor said I would've had gastrointestinal problems a few days to a week after eating it and i didn't. She said the risk would be for meningitis for the baby and it's for up to 3 months so if I ever get a fever of over 101 or 100.4 two times more than 6 hours apart I need to be seen immediately but for me to not have any reason to worry at this time. Phew!
  • I'm so glad you posted this! I ate hummus as well but don't have the container so I have no way to know if it was bad! I called my doc but haven't heard back yet so I've been super stressing! This makes me feel a bit better. Guess I'll be making my own hummus from here on out
  • After seeing the hummus recall everywhere......all I want to eat is damn hummus!
  • I had 2 things of the recalled hummus in my fridge..thankfully they were still closed but I'm making my own hummus...it's not hard and there are some great recipes online too..

Lol same here! I'm definitely making my own this weekend. I love my homemade hummus over store bought anyway.
