3rd tri ultrasound?

Might be a dumb question, but is there typically another ultrasound between the Anatomy scan and birth? Is that condusive to your insurance? Just curious if I get to see my little guy again before he's out!

Re: 3rd tri ultrasound?

  • My OB told me the anatomy scan would be the last u/s, unless it was medically necessary of course.

Same here. I think most OBs don't do one unless there's a medical reason for one.

  • Most pregnancies do not get another ultrasound. However, if as your appointments go on and when they measure your tummy, if it is measuring more than a week smaller or larger they usually order an ultrasound for growth near your due date just to make sure that baby isn't too big or too little.

  • I am having one next week at 30 weeks but that is only because I have only gained 4 pounds. Even though I am measuring fine and the doctor is fine with everything - she wants to prove to everyone else that everything is okay. I am being seen by a bariatric specialist.
  • My OB's standard of practice is to send you to another ultrasound your 27th week and then again I believe at around 34 weeks.

  • My OB does one at 37 weeks to measure. Insurance covers it generally, he deems it medically necessary to try to avoid delivering an 11 lb baby

  • No additional u/s for me unless I'm measuring too big/small or there's another medical reason to have one.

  • I'm having one at 32 weeks to check on growth.  I think this is normal at my OB.

  • My ob doesn't usually do one. I am getting on at 30 weeks to check to see if marginal previa has resolved.

  • I have one tomorrow to check the placement of my placenta. I do not think I would be getting another one otherwise.
  • I had one with DS #1 as they couldn't tell if the baby was breech or not from the internal and feeling around.  That was nearly 3 years ago, the standard now is to have one around 35 weeks for every to confirm size and position.
