Hi everyone, I apologize if I'm asking this question in the wrong place, but I'm not sure if there is a board specifically for those going through IVF. I have posted many times before, for many different issues, but the short version is:
I am 31, DH 30. We conceived our son (who is now almost 3.5) after two months of trying with no issues. Trying to #2 has been much more difficult. We tried for well over a year with no success, and opted for IVF. Our first cycle of IVF was in November (2014) and I found out in December that I was pregnant. At our 8 week ultrasound, the heartbeat was very low and I ended up miscarrying during the first week of January. We are now in a frozen embryo transfer cycle. I am taking estrace 2 times a day, and am on calendar day 6 with a possible transfer scheduled for day 20.
My question is about sex, have you ladies going through a frozen cycle been advised to not have sex during during the entire cycle up until a pregnancy test/beyond? The nurses at my RE office are telling me that I shouldn't, but I'm curious what other people have heard.
At my clinic, you are told to not have sex during the stim portion of a fresh cycle all the way up to the first ultrasound if pregnant. During a frozen cycle, I am not sure but I would anticipate the same rules apply. Especially post transfer.
I would just follow whatever advice the nurses at my clinic gave me. I know I would blame myself if something happened and I hadn't followed a "rule" like that.
IVF #1, Stimmed for 12 days, ER 8/22/14, 9 retrieved, 7M, 7F!! Freeze all due to fluid in uterus.
FET end of October 2014 cancelled due to fluid in uterus due to possible c-scar defect
Surgery scheduled 12/12/14 to fix possible isthmocele
3/26/15 transferred one 8 cell grade 4 embryo and one 6 cell grade 3 embryo = slow rising betas for 2+ weeks = ectopic MTX shot 4/29/15
Repeat c-scar surgery June 2015
2nd and last IVF cycle August 2015, stimmed for 12 days, 2 egg retrieved, both mature and both fertilized. Transferred both 8-cell embryos on Day 3, beta 9/5/15 = BFFN
I've never done an FET, but for a fresh transfer, I was told no sex from the retrieval until two weeks after the transfer. It's funny how the advice is different everywhere. @fuzzbumble, your clinic is hardcore!

I am in my first FET cycle and my only restriction is no sex from transfer day to testing day. Up until transfer is fine. I find all the differences in protocol fascinating.

I agree! I find it so interesting. I wonder if the only is reason is to try and avoid getting pregnant naturally and also through the transfer? I'd be interested to know, I will have to ask after my next blood work on Friday. during my fresh cycle, they told me not to do it from a week before the retrieval until the pregnancy test. Then once I made it to the pregnancy test and asked, they told me not to until the 8 week ultrasound. Long time! Good luck to you!

Thanks! You too! I read a woman's blog once whose RE told her to have sex on the first 3 days AFTER transfer. The reasoning behind it was that the RE told her that the semen would help an embryo implant. All the different protocols make me think that there is a little bit of voodoo involved as well
On my transfer I was told that it was ok to have sex until one day before the retrieval. And not to have sex after the positive test until my 8 week ultrasound, when I "graduated" to a regular obgyn. It was a fresh transfer, so I don't know if it will b different when I do a FET
