Trying to Get Pregnant

If you could be anywhere ...

So, these boards ... THESE BOARDS.

Mix today's trollishness (that's a new word ... use it) with work boredom and it's become one of those days when I wish I could close my eyes and be transported FAR away from this cubicle.

So, if you could be anywhere right now, doing anything, where would you be and what would you be doing?

For me, I'd be in Thailand. More specifically, I'd be in Bangkok at JJ Market. I'd be sitting at this amazing little hole in the wall rahn ahaan (restaurant) that is really just a couple wobbly tables on a street corner with a rickety old food cart, eating the most delicious khao mot gai (curry spiced chicken and rice). Then I'd be pushing through the crowds, people watching and visiting all the awesome booths of handmade crafts and artistry ... and maybe enjoying a bowl of mango sticky rice and fresh coconut water as I shopped :)

If you can make that happen, I'd love you forever.

Re: If you could be anywhere ...

  • Early 2014, H and I went to Sandals Royal Bahamian for 6 nights.  They have this tiny little island right off the resort, and 3 of the 6 days we were there, we went to the little island, reserved a cabana, and did nothing but snorkel and eat conch fritters and drink mimosas (weird combination but we owned it).  It was quiet, private.. total paradise.

I've been super sick lately and all I can do is dream about that place.  Sigh.

@missteacherlady16 You should check out travelzoo.com ... they have awesome deals on vacations and often to places like Costa Rica!

Girl I drank them all day long for 6 days... except at dinner when I'd have wine instead haha.  I love a good mimosa.  Throw a strawberry on that bad boy and look!  Health benefits too!

I love mimosas. I prefer bellinis but I'll drink them however they are served to me. And I'm one of those people who just likes a "splash" of OJ ... any place that serves them 2/3rds oj with a splash of champagne doesn't know what they're doing.
  • I would pack up my son and husband and head somewhere where we could sit on the beach. Drink in hand and playing with our kiddo in the sand and water. No work, no home renovation (which has been going on for a month), and no cooking/cleaning. Just family time somewhere warm.
  • We honeymooned in Punta Cana, DR and I day dream about it all the time! The resort was gorgeous, the alcohol flowed all the long and the food was amazing! Can't wait to go back.
  • I think we should all just re-do our honeymoons.

I can't complain about where we live though - we're by the beach and it's almost 80 right now :) still a cruise and a drink in my hand would be bliss!

  • @seashellz1223, cruises are awesome! I've been on two and they were both fantastic. One was to Grand Cayman, Jamaica, and Cozumel. The other was to Grand Cayman, Honduras, Belize, and Cozumel. Loved them both!

@jessie42613, I'd love to do my honeymoon over! It was just in October and we went to Cancun. My dad has a timeshare so he was able to get us a room at the Westin which was BEAUTIFUL. We spent an evening down in Cozumel (do you sense a trend in my likes?) and visited Chichen Itza. And lots and lots of tacos and margs. LOVE.
  • If I could be anywhere right now....I'd be soaking up the sun at a remote tropical destination. I'm picturing myself 25 lbs lighter wearing the CUTEST bikini and oversized floppy hat! Lol :)

@Embuzz247 - I also honeymooned in the DR. What resort did you stay at?

  • Maybe that would help us relax, which will clearly help us get pregnant

Duh. Why didn't I think of that?

We stayed at the Excellence Resorts. It was adult only and all inclusive, musts for us! We did some excursions too, saw the culture and swam with nurse sharks and sting rays. How did you guys like it?

@kyleneum13, we also did Cancun for our honeymoon almost 5 years ago now. When we went to Chichen Itza we literally drank 6L of water each and didn't pee all day. Holy dehydration in Mexico in June! Lol
  • @cards10, yikes! We were there in October so not nearly as bad. We actually had a tropical storm hit the day we arrived and lasted for about 2.5-3 days of our trip. We were forced to stay in our luxurious hotel room binge watching Downton Abbey and drinking tequila pineapple. Bummer  :P
  • I can see the ocean from my office and am wishing I was there sipping on a mimosa instead of waiting for other people to get their work done in order for me to do mine >.<

also just backpacking through Europe is a fun though I have

My H and I went to Cancun for a long weekend this February for a babymacation.  It didn't work out as far as a BFP but that's just another reason to do it again.  This time I'd like us to go to the Maldives.  (FTR that's completely out of our budget, but we're dreaming here right??)

Just polled my H, his vote is for Positano, Italy on the Amalfi Coast

  • Do any of you lurk over on the honeymoon board on the knot?  I still do sometimes to get inspiration.  We've only ever done the Sandals all-inclusives and I'm a huge fan but I'd love to try others.  Reading a few of the places you all have stayed at is giving me wanderlust.

  • @kyleneum13 I love your posts! First the "other" kids, now this? Fun fun fun!

My honeymoon was just at St. Pete's beach in FL (we were so young and so couldn't afford somewhere more exotic!). While I love some of FL's beaches, I think I'd rather echo @seashellz1223 and say a cruise. I've never been on one either and I really want to go.

  • I'd like to either be in Palm Springs (can I be at Coachella without all of the people?) or any Sandals resort - sipping a Miami Vice - or just Appleton Rum in an IV bag.

We went to Sandals Royal Caribbean which had an offshore Island (w/ a clothing optional section) - I wouldn't mind being in that clothing optional section at the moment either (minus AF).

Not to thread jack but tell me more.. because that's on our short list of places to try next (that particular Sandals, I mean.. not necessarily the clothes-optional island.. but hey, when in Rome, right...)

  • @jennymack79, glad I can provide some fun a midst the serious information and ridiculous trolling :)
  • We honeymooned on a cruise to St Thomas, Grand Turk, Bahamas, and Puerto Rico in October. It was so much fun! We must have hit the same tropical storm that a PP mentioned. It sprinkled on us in St Thomas and poured all day on our last day at sea. Apparently it had been miserable in Florida the whole week we were gone but was gorgeous before and after. I wouldn't mind repeating that trip again! Unfortunately DH and I are packing up to fly to Missouri(from CA) for his grandpas funeral. I definitely wish we could go somewhere else or for a different reason.

  • @mrsgillham14, I'm sorry for you and your DH's loss. My DH lost his cousin last week and we have a memorial for him on Sunday. Local, but still wish everyone was getting together for a different reason.

And were you on your cruise for the second half of the month? Our storm was the 19th through the 22nd (first few days of the trip) and was definitely a doozy!

  • It would be summer and I would be at my families lake house. Our family has been going there for almost 100 years, hardly any homes are on the lake, no cell phone reception is available and you can only get internet from one room. To me it's perfection, there is nothing like falling asleep on a dock rocking with the waves listening to water and being warmed by the sun. Knowing there is nothing to do, nowhere to go and nothing to see, just family to spend time with.

My husband makes fun of me because I never want to go anywhere else, I do for him but I don't want to. I like that I know this place like the back of my hand and I have seen it all so when I'm on vacation I can just relax, feel safe and at home. My husband loves the adventure and excitement of a "new" vacation. To me it's just stress, is the place going to be as nice as the pictures, are the resturants going to be good, what are we going to do if it rains the whole time, scheduling things so you can experience it. What about you guys would you rather vacation to the same place you love other and other or always go somewhere new?

  • @monilee1017, I hear what you're saying but I'm definitely of your DH's mindset on this! We have a timeshare we've had since before I was born. We used to go very summer with my extended family and I loved it -- and I do still love going with my family when my schedule permits ... but I have absolutely become a world traveler. I visited France with my French class in high school and ever since that trip I've wanted to see the world.

I joined the Peace Corps and lived in Thailand for a year (2011) and it was a life-changing experience for me as well. So different from here and so incredibly interesting. I would be a happy camper if every vacation I went on was a brand new place I've never been.

I will say, at times, it's nice to visit somewhere you've been before (ie. honeymoon in Cancun, third time I'd be there) for all the reasons you listed -- it's easier and definitely relaxing. But if I'm going to spend money, I want it to be on a new adventure and experience :)
  • @BHEAT14 - Disneyland or Disney World?

Growing up I was in sports and our national championship was in Disney World every year. We stayed at Disney Sports Resort and competed in MGM (originally on the Indiana Jones stage) and Beauty and the Beast theatre. I absolutely LOVED those trips. We went like 9 years in a row. I remember being let into the park before it even opened (like 5am) and being the only people walking down the main streets - everything super quiet and really eerie but awesome at the same time.

    I'm definitely a Disney nerd too :)

so wish I there rite now. It’s raining here in NJ.

DH and I are going to the Bahamas on August - scored a super cheap deal from groupons. I don't have high expectations for the resort but after this winter, a beach and feisty beverage is all I need :)

  • Ugh, I wish the vacation we have planned was to a tropical beach! Our only vacation on the books is to ... wait for it ... Sturgis ... for an entire week WITH my inlaws. What, the, what?

My hubby and his dad are both motorcycle enthusiasts (own Harleys) but are NOT bikers. I don't know WHY they enjoy going to Sturgis when it's basically just a huge biker rally. Some parts of it will probably be fun (meeting some fam I haven't met yet, going on some really pretty bike rides, etc) but seriously ... NOT MY STYLE.

I'm secretly hoping I get preggo in the next couple months not only because I want to start a family but because it would give me an excuse not to go on the trip. DH is considering selling his bike too, which I'm pushing pretty hard because that also means we won't go.

    Oi geez.
  • @missteacherlady16 Hello! That sounds amazing! I'm sure you will have a great time! We're going away this June for my 30th. Yay! We're going to stay close by and just go down to a B&B in Cape May. SO looking forward to it.
