What is your favorite type a sling/baby carrier?

Baby is due nov 4th but I am completely prepared to go a week or two past due date. Anyways is right before thanksgiving. I am already stressing about thanksgiving. Husband has a huge family. I know everyone will want to see the baby but it won't even be a month old. So I was thinking a sling or something to keep everyone from trying to get all in my babies face. I am a first time mom. What kind of baby slings have you guys used or what approach would you suggest for thanksgiving and 30+ people?

  • I adored my ergo, can't wait to bust it out again.  We had our little guy in it pretty early (with infant insert).  We had a big Christening party at about 6 weeks with lots of adoring family.  My mother saw that I was getting a little antsy with everyone passing him around.  She pulled me aside and said now that I was a mom, my comfort and babys comfort were more important than being polite.  If I felt like it was time to get away from the crowd for a few with the baby, just say it's time for a break (we took a lot of private breastfeeding breaks that weekend, and under normal circumstances, I breastfed in front of anyone, great excuse).  A napping baby in a car seat carrier is also a good deterrent.  People can see him/her, touch little feet, but hard to really get in there for kissing and what not.  And everyone knows not to wake a snoozing baby or face moms wrath.

  • We used a Tula and I swear by it as our go to carrier. This can be worn on the front or the back. We also used woven wraps. My favourite brand quickly became Oscha because of its quality and the patterns/colours. We tried out Didymos and Natibaby... but I didn't like the way they felt. If I could get my hands on an Uppy Mama at a reasonable price (they go for between $600-$700...uhhh) I would invest in one. We used our Tula for hiking the Bruce Trail when DD was only a few months old... and we used the woven for more day to day things like chores around the house or just wearing her for the sake of wearing her.

Loved our Ergo. We didn't use the insert, but did put a rolled up receiving blanket underneath babies bottom instead.
  • Another Ergo lover here!  My daughter's 2 and still fits.  I hated the infant insert, so I used a k'tan until she was about 5 months old.  I was gifted a moby, but I could never get it right.  Looking back, I was just doing it incorrectly, but I had no idea of that at the time.  I actually gave it away and wish now that I hadn't.  I'm looking into a woven wrap for this baby, but I'm nervous that I'll spend a bunch of money on it and not use it due to complexity.

  • @sdw84 I'm so glad you started this threat. I'm swooning over all the future baby carrying.

I'm curious if anyone has used the Solly baby wraps in early pregnancy?? I have a few friends that have used them and loved them. Thought it may be perfect for the winter time.
  • For a brand new baby I loved the baby k'tan wrap. Then I got a Boba 3G when she got older. I won an Ergo at an event and it was ok. Not nearly as comfy as my Boba.
I'm stalking more fancier wraps and a Tula now. Want to build my stash ;)

I want a woven too! At least I know if I don't like it I can sell it. I sold my moby too. Just wasn't a fan. Loved the k'tan.

The k'tan is great and so easy!  I recommend it to all my FTM friends.

Love my woven wraps! They take some getting used to but they are so great! I also use the ergo for a more soft structured carrier.

This can become an addiction lol. I have 7 woven wraps and 2 different Tulas (one standard and one toddler). Be wary lol. My husband wants me to start destashing as he feels we only need 1 wrap. What does he know ;)
  • Well I feel like we need one for each car and one in the house for each my husband and me ;) We each always had one we liked in the car and then one in the house we shared.
Baby wearing made our lives so much easier last time. I can't imagine having 2 with out wearing the baby. And this time I don't want to have to change the ergo and boba back and forth to our sizes so I want options. DH will likely stick to the SSCs and I'll go for wraps. He had a cheap chicco one he kept in his truck for when he shopped with her and I wasn't there.
  • Forgot I have a Maya ring sling too ;) I liked it and I think it'll be better with a smaller baby. Mine was 6 months when I got it and into back arching so she ways felt like she was falling out. We stuck with the Boba and Ergo after that. I can't wait to use it with a snuggly newborn.
  • I have an ergo and a k'tan. I could do without the ktan but LOVE the ergo!

  • I loved my Moby wrap. When I had my third baby I Moby wrapped him and wore him to class every week starting the week after I had him, and he slept like a baby through my 3 hour classes. They swaddle them so well.
  • I am also a k'tan fan, much faster than the moby. But we did kind of grow out of it by 6 months. We also have an infantino mei tai, which works just fine for short trips, but gets uncomfortable long term; so I am hoping to get a boba to use after 6 months this time.

We've never tried a ring sling. It's something we're (aka I'm) looking into. That and one of my friends swears by their mei tai... although I'm not as convinced.

We had a Moby that we tried, but it was just too stretchy. The more we tried using it the more the fabric continued to stretch, which is why we switched to a linen/cotton blend or a solely cotton wrap. They have limited stretch once broken in. I also bought a wool/cotton wrap and it feels amazing and was our go-to wrap in the winter. It was never itchy/scratchy.
  • My first liked the Moby and the ergo. My second hated carriers and would literally climb out of them even as a brand new newborn. I think it's just luck of the draw.
If you are nursing you could just keep baby on your boob the whole time. That should keep them away!
  • Another Ergo lover here. Can't live without for sure.
  • Ergo wrap I bought at a discount store for $10! I can't wait to try it out!
  • I've used moby, k'tan, ergo and didymos. I like them all for different reasons. I like woven wraps the best because they are the most comfortable for me and baby! Maybe try a friends and see what you think?
  • I loved my Boba wrap for when my ds was smaller. It kept him nice and tight to me and no one was gonna come near his face w/o my face being in the way first. I was gifted a BabyHawk too and I used that when he was a bit older. I plan to buy a Tula this time.

  • I have an ergo and it works fine, but I'm obsessed with my boba 4g. I can't belive how much more comfortable it is! I also really like the Moby wrap for newborns.
  • I started with a Moby for the early weeks. Then got an ergo but it was never love for me. Once I got a Tula, I was hooked! I now have four. I also love my Oscha ring sling.
  • Tula! I also plan on trying a Lenny Lamb and a woven wrap
  • What kind of Tula does everyone love. I'm a FTM so I'm still learning all the different kinds of carrier but I'm thinking of an Tula ergonomic baby carrier. Maybe in a solid or zig zag pattern something gender neutral I can use for future babies. After reading this in thinking of also getting the K'tan it looks easy. I'm intimidating by wraps lol.
  • I LOVE the moby wrap. We used it all the time with daughter, from getting housework and yard work done, to going out to eat, to hiking! She was pretty tiny (premie), so I don't know if this works with everyone, but it was so cold when she was born that I would just zip my coat over the moby wrap ( face poking out of the top of the coat, obviously) when I had to take her out places!
  • I'm buying a Solly for an infant and then I will use the Boba 4g once baby is a little bigger :) I don't like people touchin' all over my little babes either! Thank god for baby wearing!
  • Good comparison:

    https://stores.theclothbuttique.com/blog/boba-vs-tula/

Also- before buying try to find a store that has the carriers that you are interested in so that you can try them on! :)
  • We are planning on getting a boba and a Tula.
  • Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I have some soft structured carrier questions.  I've looked into the lillebaby collection and I think I really like them.  Especially the fact that you can use them with even the tiny newborns as my 1st was in premie/newborn size clothes until she was 6 months.  My problem is (and I'm probably being shallow here) is that the most practical ones are fairly ugly.  I like the all season ones, but they don't have any cute patterns and aren't even currently available in colors that I would consider.  (Black carrier in the summer in GA heat is just dumb.)

What are your thoughts on other soft structured carriers and why do you like your Ergo's, Beco's etc?  (Wraps are not an option.  I'm a little paranoid and bf is a lot paranoid about baby falling out because we wrapped it wrong.)

The wraps made us a little uncomfortable too, not necessarily in fear of the baby falling out but because of postures. We spoke with someone at a specialty store and after doing some research we're probably going with the Stokke MyCarrier. It isn't gorgeous but they do have a cream mesh one that seems much more breathable. The Beco Gemini looks cute, too!
  • For a newborn I love the baby k'tan wrap.
Much easier and lighter than the moby.

For SSC's when they get a little older (or with an infant insert) I have a Boba 3G and an Ergo. The boba is hands down much better. My husband and I both prefer it.
The straps are more comfortable on the boba. I hear the 4G is even better. I loved that with a quick adjustment of the straps I could breastfeed while wearing my daughter. It also has little hooks on the shoulders that snap your diaper bag or purse in place so it doesn't fall- genius in my opinion!
I won the Ergo but would never buy one.

I'm looking to get a wrap and a Tula this time.
They all hold their value and I will sell them when I'm done. I love the look of a Tula and hear they are even more comfortable that the boba. I want one for each car and our house because my husband and I both baby wore a lot with our first and will probably even more with the second.

  • My first loved being worn face out.  Can you do that with any of these others?

  • I loved the k'tan because it's super comfortable and works well with the little little ones (my guy was 5lb13oz). Also very easy to put the baby in and out of by yourself. I was also paranoid about the baby falling out and the k'tan is good for that.
I loved the ergo as he got bigger. It puts the weight in your hips like a hiking pack so it's really comfortable to wear, and comfy for the little one too. I didn't like it early on because I didn't want to deal with the hastle of the infant insert.
  • I forgot to mention the one downside of the k'tan, which is that it is made in specific sizes so my husband isn't able to use mine.

My son loved facing out too so we can do that with both our k'tan and ergo 360

It's not really recommended because it isn't good for their hips. But the newer Ergo 360 allows it for short amounts of time. The k'tan does too but they dangle from their crotches a little too much for me.

  • @vexymommy (quote won't work) Ergo works fine for itties. You don't even really need the newborn insert, you can just roll up a receiving blanket and push it to the bottom, covering the foot holes. I like the Ergo because you can use it to back carry as they get older. I was also able to put it on and take it off by myself.

I know the Stokke does. Another reason why I wanted it. :)
