Baby Sprinkle happening ...

We knew early on that we were not going to have a baby shower because it's pregnancy#2. Well, at the last minute our friends decided to throw us a sprinkle!! This is my SO first child, it's a girl. (I have a 6 yo boy). Because we weren't planning on any kind of event I've already done tons of bargain shopping and looked for hand me downs so as far as "stuff" we're pretty much all set. Plus I'm not a fan of excessive"stuff" anyway. I would hate for someone to buy something we already have or have it be returned. I think this event would be an awesome opportunity for a nice get together to celebrate the baby with our beloved friends (without gifts, and were using EC and cloth diapers) but they REALLY want to get us something. I have no idea what to ask for. I have an abundance of clothing.. idk what to do.. they want a clue about what to get us. I'd talk to them about it but I know it's not going to fly. They will buy stuff regardless. Any ideas for something that I'm forgetting??

  • This is slightly different but if you are serious about not wanting gifts you could do something my husband and I do for my sons birthday. He is 7, and his birthday is in December right around Christmas. My husband and I don't feel that our son needs gifts because he has so much and we have also been trying to teach him the concept of giving to others who don't have as much. So instead of taking presents we state on the invitation that we will be collecting all gifts that people may wish to bring and we donate them to Toys for Tots. If people choose not to bring a gift no biggie but if they want to donate to other children then great! We do this just because we prefer the time for the kids to be about bonding and not over what presents were purchased. It keeps the party about more then just gifts. But if you are serious about not wanting gifts, you could tell everyone you would like to set up some kind of donation to a mothers in need type organization. Just an idea :).

  • One thing I'm doing at my shower is a "time capsule" where everyone is going to write a letter to my daughter for her to open when she's older. They can also give a prediction for what they think she'll be like. It's kinda sentimental but I think it would be a neat thing for her to have.
  • I'm not comfortable telling people what to buy or how to spend their $$ so I would just let them buy whatever they want and deal with it later. Either by donation or hopefully returns.
  • My friend and family r big on giving cash or giftcards. After u have the baby extra money or a gift card to a baby store will come in handy. My sister in law at her last baby shower said something like gifts r not necessarily but if you would like to give something pls bring cash or gift card to babies r us so that she could buy some big item that was needed but realy wanted.
  • For my sprinkle, I bought onsies and fabric markets and guests created their own designs or messages. When done, I held them up and had to guess who did what design. It was a big hit and now we have lovely, personalized onsies
  • I would ask for frozen meals in lieu of gifts.
