November 2015 Moms

Ok ladies, let's be honest. Who already started buying for baby!!????

Hy husband and I are currently 10 weeks (tomorrow) with our first baby :-) we are both extremely excited, and have decided to tell ONLY family (and my bf). So with that my mom had to be the first one to buy something for baby, I told her I wanted to wait to make sure everything was ok but once she started so did my MIL and now I can't stop! I even decided to start buying diapers. I never realized how little unisex things they have out there for mom's to buy, my question is who else has started! ? I currently have a giant box of Pampers, about 5 blanket, quite a bit swaddling blankets, sleeping jumpers, and whatever unisex onesie I could find. Lol plus a few other too cute things i.e. musical giraffe and babies first Easter bunny ;-)

  • I haven't. We have quite a bit from the first two. And I'm uncomfortable buying things until after 24 weeks.

I wouldn't go crazy with diapers either, you never know what brand will work for your baby, and it work suck to have to return a bunch of diapers you can't use.

  • Well I've done research and Pampers seem to be the best. I feel confident about diapers at least all the woman in my family have always used them and stores accept unopened packages for if or when we have to many of one size. I just kinda want to get a head start just guess
  • My best friend already bought us a gift for the baby when I was 6wks! I told her she was nuts. And she did also send me a cute bump journal.

We did order a tiny soccer jersey off eBay because we want to use it for the announcement photo, but I'm not sure that counts.
  • This is my first, but my Fiancee's 4rth, and he seems to think it's a good idea to start buying diapers and stocking up.  I'm cool with it.

We have been buying stuff for the past year in preparation, lol.  I already have most of the big stuff, and the few things I don't have I think I'll wait until after the baby shower to continue to buy.  We've already got a lot of clothes, blankets, etc second hand from family and all that, too.  I'm lucky, a lot of women in my family just had babies not long ago.

I'm excited, too.  Grandma just told me that there is a crib in our family that has been used for generations and has the names and birthdates of every baby that's used it carved into the underside of it.  I'd love to be able to get that one and keep it going, but we are a little unsure of who has it now.  It'd take a little work to track down but I think it could be found.  My cousin Thomas might have dibs on it for his baby girl, but that doesn't bother me as long as the crib stays in the family.  I never even knew we had it!

For what it's worth, I thought the same thing. All my friends that use disposables use Pampers. However, when I started using them, I found that the chemical smell they put off made me completely nauseous and I couldn't use them. Also, some babies have more sensitive skin. It really just depends on the baby. Hopefully they work well for you though.
  • This is MY first and ofcoarse i want to buy everything!!! But decided to wait after 24 weeks. I did start a list of all The things I want. What price tracker do you use?

^ this. 2 brands, including pampers, gave my daughter a rash. We cloth diaper but bought disposables for travel when she was 4 weeks old and she broke out so bad.

We haven't bought anything. But all we really need is a new rocking chair. And I want some new wraps for baby wearing.
  • I've been buying clearance winter clothing that is unisex, like black pants, ect. The doctors think I might be carrying twins based on my hormone level (my first sonogram isn't for 2.5 weeks)and my mil is buying matching outfits already...
  • I started buying after 33 weeks. We recieved the crib, stroller and car seat around that time from the baby shower. After that I bought 5-6 cute outfits and got whatever else I recieved from the shower ready. We had so many size 0 and size 1 diapers we didn't need to buy any until after the 2 nd month. This time besides buying a double stroller and a pack and play I'm buying too much else.
  • This time I'm also buying minimal clothes this time around, until the baby is born. Our families went overboard on newborn and 0-3 month clothes and I washed it all and almost none of it fit! My daughter was 9lbs3oz and 22 inches long and even 0-3 month pants were short on her after the first week! I was shocked because I'm 5'2 and she is huge compared to me! What I do buy this time I will keep the tags on. Although we keep joking that we will probably get a 6 pounder this time!
  • We already have a crib, swaddlers, wipe warmer, and changing table. The way I see it, we already know we want a baby. If we lose this one we'll just try again. I have a few outfits from my last pregnancy which ended in early miscarriage.
  • I've been buying stuff! A couple neutral outfits, 2 crib sheets, coordinating blanket, deer book ends, a fox pillow, a wooden 'ladder' for hanging blankets, a fancy mirror. I figure if I don't have a girl I'll just use the bedding as toddler bedding for my 18 month old baby girl.

  • I've bought some of this line. I just love it, even if baby #4 doesn't end up being our 4th girl, my 18 month old can use this stuff in her room.
  • We have only used pampers for my son and I love them. Pampers baby dry gave my son rashes, but the other kinds did not. We are not going to get anything for awhile. We have a lot from my son.
  • I was buying stuff long before we got pregnant lol
  • Waiting until I know the sex. I have 2 girls so if it's a boy, def want all boy stuff.

  • We have decided on a nuetral theme for the babies room just in case so anything that's lion king that we find we are getting and we are waiting until after we know what the baby is before we get too many outfits or stroller or anything like that so we don't have to worry about it..
  • I always love a good deal so with my first one I bought early at sales. I think I'm still in denial on this one so I may be waiting a while. Babies R us usually has a $8 off coupon for pampers and Huggies. Best price per diaper I've found.

With my first I definitely went crazy buying all the cute baby things in existance starting right away. My first was the first grandchild for all 4 grandparents as well sooo yeah things got a little out of hand. We now have 2 daughters and about 20 Rubbermaid bins full of adorable girl clothes.

This time I'm not buying anything until we find out what we're having. Since this will likely be our last, if it's a boy those bins have got to go. I have started pinterest planning nursery ideas and researching double strollers though!

As for the great diaper debate...Luvs have been the only brand that don't leak for both of my girls. I like Target brand too. Huggies have always been the worst for us. I would definitely suggest not buying too many newborn size!

  • We have only gotten one container of newborn size diapers we are getting every other size so we can have some for when the baby gets here

Negative. I didn't buy anything for DS until 20 weeks in. He was 10 lbs at birth so I am glad I didn't waste money on a bunch of NB sized diapers. DH had super sensative skin and we ended up using Honest diapers and some cloth. I am doing the same for this baby and waiting until at least 20 weeks.

Good call. I loved having some bigger sizes stocked up and would get so excited when my daughter grew into the next size and I didn't have to buy any for a few weeks. The simple joys in life!

  • I know that at least Babies R Us, and probably other stores, If you have a baby registry, you can return anything they sell to the store. Like, if you registered for Breast Pump A, and someone got you Breast Pump B, you can return it, weather or not you have it on your registry. Even if you don't have a receipt. So long as they sell it, they'll refund it. It can be quite hands for extras and whatnot
Baby number 1 on the way!

I love it where is that from?
  • My son had sensitive skin and could only use huggies or luvs diapers.  He would get what looked like a chemical burn from pampers.  Blisters and all.

  • Pampers were the ONLY diapers we liked with our first! And i believe with your first baby, you should definitely splurge and bye those cute little baby things, even early..i still remember the first things i bought for my daughter when i was pregnant with her and thats a special memory for me :)
  • I almost bought a base of diapers on sale at Walmart tonight, but because of this thread, I decided not to. Rather wait than find out I can't use/return them in 8 months! Hahaha
Baby number 1 on the way!

  • Only 8 weeks but the same day we found out, which was roughly five weeks, we bought a couple of outfits. And we just bought a womb bear. I keep browsing stuff too. My fiancé looks at me like I'm crazy but we're both so excited lol.

From the moment I held you in my arms, I knew it was meant to be.

    I adore her smile,
    I cherish her hugs,
    I admire her heart.
    But most of all,
I love that she is my daughter.

  • I had already gotten a lot before we got pregnant. :) No money spent, though. We have a free "military attic" that is basically like Goodwill. I just pick up some gender neutral stuff every now and again. :)

We are not finding out the sex so, why not.
We have a crib, swing, bouncer, moby wrap, wipe warmer, about 8 gender nutural sleepers, 2pks of nb diapers and 1pk of #1, baby lotion & wash and baby bedding. I'm just too excited. #5 for me
  • The only thing I bought so far is a onesie that says made in Oklahoma. I might use it for the birth announcement.
We are from Ohio so I thought it was cute to have a made in ok onesie. :x

But that's it for now. Probably buy more after the 20 week mark.
  • I think its up to the mommy & daddy when they feel comfy buying for baby. Im pregnant with baby #2 9 years after having baby #1, so Im super excited & so is my husband. I think its an old wives tale of how many weeks you should tell ppl your pregnant or when you buy clothes because anything can happen at anytime in the pregnancy. Telling ppl at 7 months verses 7 wks doesnt ensure your baby will be ok. So mommys if you want to tell ppl your preggo or buy clothes have at it !!! This is such an exciting time. Do what your heart desires.
  • I personally haven't started buying but my mom had. She bought a bouncer for the baby and socks. She wanted to buy more clothes but kept herself just to socks since it's still early. I have only bought a nursing bra and whew was that a worthwhile purchase. My boobs are so happy.
  • Waiting till your 24 weeks seems a little crazy to me. Now I am not saying run out and buy everything you need/want at 8 weeks however shopping for your little blessing is such fun. Getting a few cute things for her or just the nursery is ok in my book. A lot of moms find out the gender at 16 weeks. I say wait till about then.
