Waxing or shaving?

How are you 'maintaining'? Is waxing even ok during pregnancy?

Re: Waxing or shaving?

  • I'd be a bit weary of waxing, you might not be the same, but my skin is super sensitive right now. I used a hair removing cream the other day, a sensitive skin one. That seemed to work ok, but I won't be waxing until this LO's born.

Just be careful id say :-)

  • Im a skin therapist and waxing is perfectly safe for pregnancy although it does hurt alot more. Usually a waxer myself and cant bear the pain but i do go before the big day because I usually cant see anything down there. If your therapist is nice she will use an azulene wax thats gentle and for sensitive skin so it's less likey to hurt as much or cause any irretation.
  • I have continued my waxing regime. I go once a month. I haven't noticed a difference in sensitivity or more pain but the lady who waxes me said it might become more sensitive. Until then I will continue.
  • I have never waxed but with swimsuit season coming up  and a lack of visibility (already showing) I don't see another way.  Hopefully I don't hate it too much!
  • Yea ive never waxed i still shave but i have noticed a lot more sensitivity like itchy skin and when the hair grows back its so much worse. I think im just going to lay off shaving down there and just stick to armpits and legs. Only shave bikini area when swimming. My husband sadly isnt into pregnant sex so i guess i dont have to worry about what he will think about it
  • I'm shaving but it's getting a little tough since the belly is growing now. I was thinking about using hair removal lotion. And mention to my boyfriend that I might try the waxing and he said he would help me shaving but I don't know how I feel about that haha.
  • I managed to shave until the end last time. Now it may not have been perfect but I couldn't see it :)
  • @mybabynumber2 what cream are you using?
  • I got an electric razor last time and that really helped. Standing on one leg in the shower with a huge belly seemed like a recipe for disaster! It's not as close a shave as using a razor, but at least it kept me from getting too furry.
  • My husband does the shaving. If he wants it smooth, he can make an effort.
  • I have continued waxing once a month and have not noticed a difference in the pain level. Do what's right for you! :)
  • I waxed up until 2 days until I went into labor with DS.  It was slightly more sensitive, but nothing horrifically different.

I would think waxing is probably safer than using hair removal creams.

  • I'm doing my best to keep up on my shaving. So far I've really only shaved before a pedicure or getting a massage. My husband promised to help me out when I can no longer do it. I definitely want to be clean shaven down there during delivery. You're a mess down there afterwards.

I just made my first brazilian wax appt for Friday. I'm terrified of the pain but my cooter-beard is outta control! I'm going to be at the beach for 2 wks in April and just want it to be easy and not have to worry about what's going on down there. My hair is growing like crazy since I got PG so one less place to deal with it I'm embracing with arm's (er legs) open wide. I will keep it up cause I know soon I won't be able to see the lotus anymore.
  • @riahanson Hahah cooter-beard.

Well, to throw my two cents in, I'm a monthly-ish wax kind of a girl anyhow, so I'm not changing my routine. It certainly helps to feel comfortable with your waxer, so if you try someone and hate them, don't hesitate to switch! I didn't notice too much increased sensitivity when I went at about 14 weeks, but I'm sure it differs for everyone. It does get easier and less painful the more times you go, plus less hair grows back while you keep going. It's my one "body-stuff" splurge (although my girl does college student discounts, and I'm still a student. At 35 bucks a month it isn't too bad of a splurge!), because I never really get my hair done or massages or anything else. It's not necessarily a pleasant experience, but totally makes me feel a little better about me, even though my fella is the only one who would know!
  • DH is going to have to do it. Last time I shaved, I felt tingling so I'll need to change the cream if he uses a razor.
  • I'm a "shave when I feel like it and if you have a problem with that, keep it to your damn self" kinda gal. My lady bits are getting way out of control since I got pregnant though. I feel like I'm going through 3x as many razors trying to keep up with the jungle, and it's getting harder to maneuver. It doesn't help that I'm blind without my glasses haha. I might switch to just a trim instead of a full shave. Ain't nobody got time for that.
  • I've been waxing for years and have no intent on stopping it's a little more sentive but not that big of deal.
  • Never waxed before but I will be starting next month and will keep it up through the end of pregnancy. I want everything smooth and clean for summertime when I live in my bikini, and for delivery when everyone has their hands and face all around my woman parts haha. I'm sure the pain is endurable and so worth it!
  • I try to keep up with shaving, but DH doesn't mind either way.
  • I've kept up my waxing schedule and haven't noticed a bug difference in the pain. I didn't notice a big difference with DS1 either. I waxed til the very end.
  • I just got waxed yesterday! The new lady I went to was great, it was even less painful then the times I got it done when I wasn't pregnant! I started waxing again because I can't see down there anymore to shave!!!!
  • I still wax:) It's just a bit more painful than usual. I refuse to look like a national forest down there.
