Sudden dizziness?

I'm on week 23, and the past week I've had two dizzy spells that came out of nowhere. Almost made me pass out both times. I do have a heart condition, but this doesn't feel like it's related. Anybody else have these? I'm asking my OB about it today too.

Re: Sudden dizziness?

  • Have they checked you for anemia?

  • Interested to hear what your OB says, but I have read blood pressure can drop in the second tri. I have normally low BP and the dizzy spells have happened to me when not pregnant, I had one the other day and I am 20 wks. I'd keep an eye on BP and talk to the doc. They also recommend that you don't stay stationary for too long. My spell happened after I had been in the car for 3 hours and got out and went right to rushing around.
  • I am 22 weeks and had the same thing earlier this week. I normally have very low blood pressure and my Dr said blood pressure dips from pregnancy. He recommended drinking more water, eating more salt, eat enough and avoid getting overheated. Scary stuff but my Dr said to just be careful and it should level itself out in the next 4 weeks.
  • I'm 22 weeks and have noticed this a couple times in the past week. Last night I stood up quickly and started rushing around when it hit me. DH had to catch me. I remember this happened the last time I was pregnant too. I think its just a reminder that I need to take things a little more slowly.

With DS this started right about the 19 week and it's back with DD this time. My midwife says its normal but you will need to be mindful of this and try to avoid things like standing too fast or running up the stairs. She said pretend to be a senior and just take it slow:)
  • My OB told me to go get checked when it happens again, so they can rule out it being my heart. My blood pressure was fine when she took it today, but it could have dipped earlier.
  • I had this happen last weekend. Thought it might be blood pressure?
  • I have this. It's scary to feel like I'm about to pass out. I told my doctor yesterday. She said that it could be low blood sugar bc my BP is good. Maybe eating something sweet will help.
  • It's not just one thing it can be a number of things. Always having something in your stomach, hydrated and stand up slowly. Seriously act like a senior.
  • Yes! I started to eat every three to four hours and drink plenty of water. I agree about the senior thing because we need to take it slower. Which is harder than it looks. Few more months mommies! We can do this!!!!! Oh, I heard that other reason why we could be feeling dizzy is the uterus is growing . I too have health issues and worry. Also I have anemia and eventually hematologist wants me to take iron infusions. Guh :-t
  • About two weeks ago I went to lunch with a friend and made it ten feet into sephora before getting dizzy, and all of a sudden I woke up on the floor to the emt's helping me on a gurney. My friend was so scared because I said I didn't feel well and then she grabbed my arm because it all happened so fast. I went to the er and baby and everything looked normal, and my job wanted me to take a week off and get cleared by my OB before returning. They told me my blood pressure was low, as many pregnant women have low bp, and that it's prolly a circulation problem, but I could go back to work, and it wasn't but an hour into my first day back on the job that I woke up on the floor again to the paramedics. It was extremely scary, because of such the short time between starting to feel lightheaded and then not even knowing I passed out. I had to leave my job as a cook, because even though I got pretty frequent breaks to sit it just wasn't enough. My advice is that you make sure you stay off your feet for lengths of time. Even if you feel okay, make sure you take frequent seats or stops during whatever your doing to prevent any onset of dizziness or lightheadedness. Also, I started drinking a lot of Gatorade, in between all of the water, for the electrolytes, and my OB said she would prescribe potatoe chips and a desk job. Good luck!
  • ALSO, remember to be very slow and steady when changing positions. Take your time to sit up from laying down and from sitting to standing and so on.
