Trying to Get Pregnant

Tracking basal body temp

My husband and I have only been trying for two months now so I know it's still going to take some time, but my sister in law and I use the same doctor and she tried for about 8 months. Our doctor never mentioned anything to her about tracting her temperature. He is well into his 60's. Could this be just that he is old fashioned? Basically the conversation we had was "make sure to have sex every other night and stay lying down for two hours".

Re: Tracking basal body temp

  • Lol yes I think he's old fashioned. Laying down for two hours after sex seems a bit extreme. My ob said nothing to me about bbt either.

  • So many doctors base their cycle knowledge on "every woman has a 28 day cycle" and know nothing about BBT -- or if they do, they don't talk about it. He is either old fashioned or just doesn't work with the fertility awareness method. Either way, it's a huge disservice to his patients as it can be so empowering and enlightening to track this stuff!
  • I think that many Drs feel that women can't chart and interpret a chart.
And as rude as that sounds, it is true for some. the Drs I work work have told me some of the dumb questions they get, especially at 3am while on call.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • I don't know if it's that he's old fashioned. My mom (late 50s) used temp tracking to conceive my brother and I. Sounds like the other explanations might be good. Annoying that Drs don't share potentially game changing information.

  • I think it's werid he is saying stay laying down for two hours. There isn't a scientific basis for it. Also Please pee after the BD don't want to get an UTI

  • Most OBs don't talk about temping. Most women probably don't want to try to understand it either. But it does work. Read the book and you can join our cult. Lol.

  • Are there any advantages to also using OPK's while also tracking your temperature?
  • Are there any advantages to also using OPK's while also tracking your temperature?

They let you know when to start upping the sex.

Yes, OPK's let you knowing that you are gearing up to ovulate. Taking your temp and charting it lets you know that you actually did ovuluate.

  • Since I haven't started temping yet (planning on starting) I'm assuming OPK are my best resource at the moment. What is the name of the book everyone has mentioned again?
  • I was just using a period tracker app the last two months with no luck. I thought I was two days late both months which gives me the impression I am actually ovulating two days later. Could this be true? Or I won't actually know until I start tracking?

Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Use the OPKs so you get the hang of them, but sex every other day would be your best opinion for this cycle!

You'll have to start tracking your temps and cm and opks. If the period trackers were right, it would just be by pure chance.
