Rh factor?

Hello!

I was curious to see how many of you out there have AB- blood type. I just now became aware of the condition moms can get if the baby had a positive blood type (85% of the population does) and the mom has a negative blood type. Have any of you gone through with the immunoglobulin shots/treatment? Any information would be appreciated!

Re: Rh factor?

  • I'm O- and have had the shot 3 times before. One after a miscarriage, one at 28 weeks and another after delivery (daughter was +). Planning on the same routine!

The shot is so that the next time you're pregnant your body does not reject the baby. If babies blood mixes with yours & they're positive, it sees it as a virus and something to expel. (This is what I've understood from reading about it in my nursing classes)

  • I'm O- I've also had the shot 3 times. Once at 28 weeks, after delivery, and then once for a miscarriage. It's no different than any other shot. It's in the hip/butt and definitely burns.
  • Ditto to the above....this time around will be my 3rd, first with DS, 2nd with a MC, and will have another at 28 weeks (same week as my glucose test). And ditto that it is just a shot, no big deal.
  • I have had the shot 3 or 4 times for miscarriages. I will have to have it again at 28 weeks and after delivery (19 weeks now!). The shot isn't a big deal, it does burn, and is a little sore afterwards for me (think tetanus shot in the butt)!
  • Same here... I'm B- and this will be my third time with the shots. It didn't hurt very bad I think because I've put so much weight on my butt each pregnancy!
  • I'm O-, but DH is Rh- too, so I don't need the shot.

  • I'm also AB- and have had the shot with my first two and will with this one. I agree it's just a shot nothing to worry about.
  • There is a thread currently going about this. Search Rogham injection. I think that's the name of the thread ... It's on the 3rd page. Good luck :)
  • Hi there I am Ab- and with my first baby I had a couple shots in my butt muscle during pregnancy and then our blood mixed in delivery so I had to have 6 shots after delivery. With this baby I have had one shot at like 13 weeks and I'll have another one in my third trimester. They protect u and your baby so they aren't bad :)
  • I'm A- and I have to get the shot at 28 weeks and right after delivery. No big deal, it protects you and the next pregnancy if the baby is a + blood type.
  • If you haven't already have your husbands blood type checked. If he is - then you don't need the shot as you will only have a - baby.
