Name too unique?

I had my first ultrasound last Tuesday, heartbeat was strong at 164 bpm. It was so wonderful to see the heart beat, especially since I had 2 miscarriages prior to this pregnancy. During the ultrasound, my tech made a comment that the pregnancy sac (what a weird name for it in my opinion) was off to the right. Old wives tale says that's a boy. We've had 2 names per sex picked out for the longest time, but now that it's a reality, I'm not sure if I can stick with it. The boy name we have picked is Dodge David (both of our fathers are named David) but I'm a bit concerned that he'll get made fun of for having a car name. What do you guys think?

  • I kinda like it. Not sure about the two together. David dodge as a middle name sounds a little better IMO. David dodge junior that's cute. When they say off to the right. Is it right in your body but when u look at the picture would that be to the left? Just wondering as my picture shows it definitely on the left. Ah!
  • I've never liked Juniors. Regardless of the first name, David will be the middle. The only reason she made a comment about where the sac was was because she had a hard time finding my left ovary so I'm not sure how to tell on the actual ultrasound.
  • I have never met a dodge. Not sure what I think to be honest. Try calling the baby that for a month and see how it feels. Names are hard!
  • Love David! Not crazy about Dodge, though.

  • I know a Hemi Dakota.  It works for his local community, but he may get looks if he moves away from his family as an adult.

  • I don't think of dodge as the make of a car as much as I think of, "dodge that ball!" Or whatever. Not sure if he would be made fun of to that? Kids are so ruthless this day, that they'll find any and all reasons to make fun.

However, on the flip side, he could be the star quarterback or of whatever sport he plays and could be known as the "dodger" in a great way!

The name as itself and not associated to anything, I actually do like it!

  • I've thought as Dodge as a verb too, that doesn't worry me too much, and most kids nowadays wouldn't know the expression of get the hell outta dodge.. I know that it comes down to what my husband and I like, but when 9 out of 10 people give it a thumbs down.. it's really making me second guess it.
  • No one loved the name we had picked out for our first daughter. But, after we named her when she was born, everyone has loved it and can't imagine her with any other name.

It most definitely comes down to what you and your husband want and feel is right for your baby.

I usually try to avoid to say names with this one, because it really doesn't matter what other people think, in the long run. They'll love your baby and their name no matter what. :)

  • My supervisors sons name is Dodger. At first I thought it was an odd name but It grew on me. That can be another option for you.
  • I like it but i could see it more for a pet to be honest. I immediately thought of dodger as a nickname and that's super puppyish to me.

I still kinda like it though! Honestly it's your baby so as long as you like it then go for it!

  • it's interesting. what about a name like Wyatt or Jude

  • For a boy we have picked out Chevy and for a girl we have picked Dallas
  • I think it's good. Better than a lot of names these days. You'll always have people who hate whatever you choose, so if you and your husband like it, use it!
  • Nms but it's better than Cage:/
  • I like Dodge! Go with whatever feels right for you and your family.
  • I don't like it personally, but you know my sister changed her mind on naming her daughter because everyone thought it was too different or unique and she still regrets it to this day.
  • I personally love it. And if u think about it, in Oliver twist, the character that helps oliver is named dodger. Just a little food for thought. But i think if u love it, then use it. Its totally up to u and your family.

  • On the show My Name Is Earl, Joy's first son, they named him Dodge.
  • It's not my style, but I'm not all that crazy about unique names to begin with. I think that they can be good to a point, but then some people just take it way too far. If you like it then go for it, it shouldn't matter what other people think.

  • Congrats on your happy ultrasound!
I don't like the name. It makes me think of an old rusty truck with the bumper hanging off.
    David is nice though.
  • My cousin just had a boy and his name is Chevy. It's honestly the cutest name. If you and your SO like it then go for it. I honestly think it's different and unique but not TOO out there to the point it's just stupid.

I personally named my son Lyric and EVERYONE hated it besides me and his dad, but now, no one could imagine calling him anything else. It fits him very well and the name definitely grew on those who didn't care for it at first, now I get nothing but compliments on his name choice.
  • I met a Baby named Dodge Danger the other day. He was cute. I thought it was strange, but also kind of cool.

Don't chose a name in what the people are saying. It's your child. Name it what you want to. I have changed boys name like 3 times. Go with what you love and what you want.
  • My brother was named Shelby Todd (after the shelby mustang) I have a son named Travet Walker (after the Texas Rangers on the TV show). It's your child and your choice. Don't seek others approval on it. If your having 2nd thoughts on the name then talk to your spouse.
  • I'm a fan of "different" names. I like Dodge, however, I'm not sure about the order of Dodge David. What if you did David Dodge and he went by Dodge? We're doing Bentley Porter if its a boy :)
  • I love unique names. My husband and I both do.
  • I love it! I would just really think it over if you're having doubts... You don't want to have name regret.
  • I'm not crazy about it but if you like it, go for it!!
  • If you like the name, go for it! No matter what name you throw out there, there will be people who "aren't feeling it". You have plenty of time to think about it...it's your baby, your decision. good luck. ;)
I can't make a signature with a picture and/or a ticker for the life of me...

    I'm having a baby, due 1/20/14.

    The end.
  • I personally like Dodge as a name, but then again, I like unique names and come from a community / area where that would work just fine, and I think by the time he's old enough to move away and get a job, no one really gives a crap what your name is as long as you get the job done, lol.

I actually have a bigger problem with gender neutral names or names that you constantly have to tell people how to pronounce....or spell, which I think causes unnecessary hardship on the kid.
  • My husband has a cousin named Travis Dodge and he prefers to be called Dodge. My husband and his cousin were born pretty close together and their dads fought over the name.
  • I'm not a fan of Dodge... But I do like David, good luck!
