Mucus plug regenerates? TMI post!

Does anyone know anything about the mucus plug? I've been googling it and can't seem to find a direct answer so I figured I'd ask you ladies before making a call to my doctor in the morning!

I've noticed since about 2/3 weeks ago (I am 29 weeks) that I would have parts of my mucus plug discharge after having sex. I usually see it the day or so after sex. It is the same consistency as a mucus plug except it doesn't have any blood in it. I've read it grows back? How soon? I have sex pretty regularly and I'm concerned it may not grow back fast enough before I lose the entire thing lol Anyone out there experienced this before? This is my third baby and I haven't experienced this before!

    Regenerating mucus plug? I've never heard that before sounds fascinating! Now I'm gonna google it. Maybe what you're going through is just post sex bleeding? I used to bleed a little after sex and my dr told me it was normal. And sometimes it's a little brown because it's old blood. I forgot what he said exactly but something about how we're a little more sensitive because of extra blood flow in the area. Also, as for discharge it's common to have more of it around the third trimester, something else my dr told me.

    ETA: ok so I've looked it up and reading some info. While Google may be a place to quickly find interesting information, there's so much of it! I would be cautious about the kind of information that's out there. It doesn't and shouldn't replace sound medical advice.

    trying looking up something different. such as losing the mucus plug multiple times. i have no experience with this as im a FTM but it could help you.

    I always have mucous-y discharge the day after sex. Don't know why...lol...just nature's way, I guess! I'd say this is probably what's going on, not actual loss of mucous plug. Mention it to your doctor anyway to be safe!

    Try searching or XP-ing on the 3rd tri board. I could swear I've seen something like this on there before.

    I actually just asked my doctor about this! She explained that it's normal to loose pieces of it throughout the later part of pregnancy and not to be concerned. It can be a sign of labour, but not to jump to conclusions unless you're experiencing other symptoms as well (abdominal pain, contractions, etc.).

    She also mentioned that when baby is actually planning on making his or her grand enterence soon, mom can sometimes loose her MP hours or days before going into active labour.

    @MurLindzz Thank you! I actually lost mine a few hours before my daughter was born so this is new to me! Glad to know it can be normal! :)

    With my first I saw my mucous plug at 39.5 weeks but she didn't appear until 40.5 weeks. This doesn't answer your question I know. I've heard it can grow back but I don't know if that is true.

    It can grow back. I don't know how fast. Are you sure the discharge isn't semen? It doesn't have anywhere to go right now, so maybe that is how it is coming out?

    I've lost my mucous plug in this pregnancy and all carried on as normal afterward. It does regenerate and happens fairly frequently. However, since you didn't see any blood, it makes me wonder if this is really just normal discharge, semen, or a yeast infection... Seems most likely to be semen, which can have that thick consistency of a mucous plug minus the blood. Since we're talking TMI, have you tried smelling it? Ewww, yes, but there is a distinct smell that comes from it that wouldn't be noticed in the mucous plug... just a thought.  :>

    @BabyList & @OnWayto3 I actually did read online somewhere that it could be semen, but with it looking exactly like mucus I just thought no way could that be it, but maybe it is? I haven't smelled it but I haven't noticed any smell either. I know it's not a yeast infection. So weird! Thanks!

    Semen mixed with your new fluids will /can look like mucas. But yes, your plug can come and go. As long as there is no contractions with cramps/ blood ect. You are fine. If you want to get your Dr to check your cervix for changes you can do that too.

    My Dr would tell me not to have rough sex if it caused issues.. But sex was fine

    It can gradually leave ur body. That's what happened my first pregnancy. It did t come out all at once. Just a little each day.
