Which boy name do you like best? Any that I should remove from my list, and why?

I am due any second. We have been pretty set on Colin, but as I have searched around the internet, I have come across comments that Colin gets mispronounced, or reminds people of "colon." I never thought this, and I am not sure it's a good reason to avoid the name, but nevertheless it has prompted me to take another look at our name list. Middle name will be Sean if that makes a difference.

  • Colin is a great name, and if you love it, that's all that matters. Kids can make fun of any name, so don't let that sway you. I personally think of Colin Firth, who is a fantastic actor and total class act!

  • Colin.

The others are all okay, but I don't care for Dylan or Gavin.

Colin is the best name up there and I have known a few and never knew any issues with pronouncing it. It's a solid name that's recognizable.

  • Colin is one of my favorite names. I've never heard it mispronounced.

People will find problems with every name in the world. Colin is a good, solid name so if you love it, keep it!
  • Colin is a great choice. I really don't think you have anything to worry about when it comes to pronunciation. You seem to be over thinking this a bit, which I'm sure is natural as you approach your due date.

Of your list I also like Declan, it's a guilty pleasure name for me because I could never use it. And I love Sean too.

  • Declan is my favorite. Colin is also a great name. I definitely do not associate it with colon.

  • Voted for Colin. I haven't heard of people mispronouncing it as 'colon." That seems like a stretch that I would not be concerned about if you really like it!

Declan, Gavin, and Dylan are too trendy for my taste. Brendan and Connor are ok. Sean is just not my favorite.

    Collin is a great name.
  • I love your taste in names. You can't go wrong with any of them, definitely not with Colin. My personal fave is Declan, though. I wish I could use it but I already have a Dalton. Good luck!
  • Colin is a great name. Your list is really good, I'm partial to Gavin because of my DS :)

  • I like them all except for Dylan and Brendon. No logical reason, just that my mom was a teacher, and it seems like a lot of the hyperactive or difficult kids in her class that she would complain about were named Dylan or Brendan (or Jace). So it's just a weird personal association I guess.

I think Colin is fine, and can't imagine anyone mispronouncing it.
  • I love the name Colin, if I was a boy that would have been my name. Gavin is also a strong but original name. If you really love Colin you should go with it and not worry about those other things.
  • I have never heard of Colin getting mispronounced. It's not exactly "out there" and is pronounced just like how it's spelled. I had a Colin in my class last year, very sweet boy, so I do have a good association with the name. (Coincidentally, his older brother's name was Sean!)

I'm not loving the flow of Colin Sean, but it's not terrible. I certainly wouldn't nix the name because some weirdos associate it with colon! ;)

  • I like Colin and Conor best. I wouldn't worry about Colin being "colon."
  • I love Colin! I dated a guy for several years who spelled it Collen and people mispronounced it Colleen and Cullen a lot but he didn't care. It's a great name!
  • Colin is a great name.  I have never heard of people thinking Colin is colon.

  • Our son's name is Collin. We used 2 l's so it wouldn't look like colon, it doesn't help I work in the health care field and wanted to avoid that so I totally get where you are coming from. Since we've had him (he turned 3 in December) we have met more spelled with 2 l's. And we haven't had issues with anyone misspelling it either!

  • I love Colin and would be using it had it not been my Mother's jerk of an ex-husbands name. It's not that I relate the name to a jerk, it's that I wouldn't want him to think I named a child after him.

  • I've never heard of Colin getting mispronounced. I've seen it with one and two l's. I would be more worried about people misspelling it than the colon thing.
