So I'm anemic. It's not uncommon for me. However this pregnancy I'm lower than usual and need to start building up. I will be taking an iron supplement but honesty am terrible at remember to take pills. So I've starting making green smoothie with Kale or spinach in it. I already eat red meat occasionally. I'm hoping all of it together and "remembering" my pill will help for birth or possible csection... So what are you doing? Curious just to try to get some more ideas.
Re: How do you get your iron?

Don't forget to separate your iron supplement from other foods or vitamins by an hour both before and after. Especially calcium as that prevents absorption. You could take it with a glass of non calcium fortified oj tho, or a vitamin c rich fruit, as vitamin c helps it absorb.

My doctor and pharmacist don't give such good timing tips, so just want to double check my understanding matches what you ladies have experienced. And also ask what you do about the constipation issue if anything? Magnesium causes the opposite so am hoping they cancel each other out...
TIA!
As far as constipation, I have had some rough going sometimes, but we started bringing in some iron rich foods also, of which asparagus is one - and asparagus is very fibrous. I haven't had to supplement fiber since the beginning. But if I need to I do have a tub of benefiber to use. Hopefully your magnesium does cancel out the constipation effects of the iron, but if it doesn't I most of the time do OK with additional fiber in my diet

How many times a week does everyone eat red meat? It's probably only once for me.
edit: punctuation error
@gemkw I was eating red meat like once a week, but I eat more now. Usually a burger at least once a week, or meatloaf or steak during the week, too. Meatloaf you can actually have leftovers, so you could make that at least 2 nights that week with red meat. I probably have 1 red meat meal 3 random days during the week. DH and I have also been eating asparagus with our steaks or burgers - its either the highest or 2nd highest green vegetable in iron, and heavy in fiber, too, so it helps with the digestive issues that iron causes.
Not sure how many mg, and I'm not getting out of bed to check
