Strangest Pregnancy Symptom

Re: Strangest Pregnancy Symptom

  • @sugarmagn0lia looks like it most often occurs in late pregnancy but here is what I read so you can see if it fits your situation before panicking:

  • The sneezing and the dreams. I have very few other symptoms, other than fatigue, but the sneezing is SO annoying!! Its like, these weird, double sneezes that happen on top of each other. I don't even finish the first before the second happens, and they're violent! It's awful!

The dreams are annoying, too. Nightmares, ususally about my husband leaving/getting killed or about miscarriage or, bizarrely, about mundane things like taxes blown up into huge issues. But, strange as they are, I think they can mostly be chalked up to having to get up every couple hours to pee, which means I never get fully back to sleep, so I'm remembering them more. Still, annoying.

  • My husband has nicknamed my nose the super-sniffer haha. Smells really get to me and I haven't wanted anything sweet at all which is weird since I love chocolate!

@mathesq0, oh my gosh, yes! I've had dreams like that too - honestly, the worst ones are when my husband just apparently doesn't exist and then my ex makes an appearance and wants to have sex. I always wake up feeling panicked/icky.

This is also probably TMI, but another annoying combination punch of pregnancy is that, because my sense of smell is so much stronger, I'm yelling at my husband every time he farts because the smell REALLY gets to me. They're not any more offensive than usual, but I'm perceiving them to be. So, I'm yelling at him about that, meanwhile, my own body has decided that gas and bloating is totally my thing right now, so then I get mad at him when I pass gas and he gives me a look and calls the proverbial kettle black. It's a no-win situation. :-w

I've been sneezing for the past 2 months! It's getting annoying.. And now I'm sick. My dreams are more intense. I've never had so many sexual dreams in my life than I do now.. And it's usually with just random people I know or have met in passing.. As for foods, nothing too strange. I personally hate tomatoes with a passion, and am not a fan of red meat. However, I crave tomatoes and burgers all the time.. It's almost disgusting how much I crave the them..
  • @mathesq0 thanks for the info :) it hasn't happened since really early on - I'm chalking it up to an increase in estrogen, which I read can cause the same thing. Definitely good info to have though!
  • I have really sensitive eyelids and I hate the feeling of getting them wet in the shower.
  • I can't stand cheese. Very strange for me, I am a macaroni machine!!
  • Question, is anyone having strange sensations in their belly buttons? I feel like something is poking me from the inside. Its really bizarre!

That is so weird you said that. Last week I went to pick something up off the night table and I swear it felt like something strongly jabbed me in my stomach near my belly button. I could swear I ran into something, but there was nothing there. It was so strange!!
  • @snikai Okay. I am glad that it is not just me. It is at the most random times... and DH thinks I am nuts!

  • I have never heard of this before but I am in my 2nd pregnancy and have had this for both.  I am nauseated by sounds.  For my first it was creaky swing sets.  For this pregnancy it is my husband chewing, revving car engines (we have a stick that revs if you need to shift), and my 14mo crying when he is angry.  People think I am crazy but these things consistently make me nauseated.
  • @petalstar I'm legit laughing at your response! I hate washing my face and getting it wet too- bizarre!

@bethhart66 Omg!! I get nauseated at the sound of the juicer!!! I thought it was just association, but even talking about it makes me nauseous!!

It's my husband's birthday. As an act of love, I'm going to juice his favorite vegetables. Wish me luck!!

I have lots of symptoms but I think the strangest is that I don't always know I have to go pee. The normal "you gotta pee" tugging of my bladder isn't always there. Sometimes it's just a weird ache/cramping in my abdomen. Maybe it's gas? Maybe it's my growing uterus? Maybe I should try going pee...

  • @bethhart66 I don't think I made the connection until you mentioned it but I totally get this one too! Loud, grating or jarring noises cause me to become physically nauseous. I am also not usually squeamish at all, but violence or gore on tv or movies make me feel nauseated as well - the sound or sight.
  • Here's the weirdest one.. I get food stuck in my throat like every time I eat! It is insanely bizarre and I have to hack up so I can get it loose. NEVER happened before pregnancy!

I've totally been dealing with this!! In so glad you said something, but I was just chalking it up to having an iron, road trip pro bladder. This makes total sense. I even get the word cramp-y aches. I've been trying to pee consistently on a schedule, like once ever hour or couple of hours, or at least check in with my bladder more consciously on a regular basis lol I feel like such a dork about it!

Yes this! Like it was almost painful, like something tugging on my belly button from the inside. I asked my doctor about it and she was totally mystified. She checked to see if I had a hernia, but I was fine as far as she could tell. I'm 17 weeks and this has happened three, maybe four times? Haven't felt it for a couple of weeks now
  • @barrelocarol and @mschris00

I totally thought I was alone!  Not that I am glad you suffer the same way but wow, there is comfort in knowing I am not crazy!  My husband thinks I made it up and my dad thinks it is fun to make those noises to push me over the edge.  Good luck with the juicer!
  • Sneezing and stuffy nose. It's like I've had a cold that won't go away!
  • Omg! Ladies! Those talking about bladders!

I told my doc that my upper vag area feels like it has been continuously punched by tiny gnomes. She said between the growing uterus, ligament pains and my lack of stretching is causing this terrible bruise sensation.

She said usually the bladder can grow inside the body in various directions. Now, it can only grow out when we have to pee so essentially, our bladders ARE bruising us internally when we hold our pee in for too long!

She said all of this in the cutest way...I sappy love my OB!
  • Sneezing!....never knew, I'm totally sneezing! :-SS I also Am tooting up a storm, dream of made up men, feel like I've been doing ab work outs for no reason, I can only eat salad from one restaurant, all fish and veggies sound appalling, when I get up to pee my legs feel like I haven't walked in days.

We are a weird bunch of people I tell ya.
  • My eye has started producing this nasty gunk from it, what's all that about? It passes as the day goes on, then I sleep and wake, their it is again. I've stopped using mascara to see if it's that, no change. Never had problems with my eyes in my life until now.

Oh and one more thing, pins and needles in various parts of my body, mainly my leg and hands. I'm not even leaning on them and they just go numb and then the tingling starts.... Oh the joys!

I'm usually a very gassy person (celiac sprue makes you toot more and so does having gastric bypass) but I no longer fart. It's a big surprise when I do now (probably from the super constipation). It's sad but I actually miss cutting the cheese because now I'm so bloated and in pain.

@PhoenixJewels 'toot' I've never heard that one before! =))

Edited: toot came out as root, not quite the same haha
  • I have hiccups all day long. Not quite discreet ones either. Ones that make me sound like a dying pterodactyl.
  • Probably the teeth-brushing issue with gagging & the bizarre dreams. I dreamt that I was fighting a water demon & I spit on it to defend myself (what the?), and when I woke up, I had really spit, on myself and the pillow. WTF?!
