Baby Registry Blues

Re: Baby Registry Blues

  • @Bliss+Berry FYI, my youngest is 6. All the baby things I had were either given to family and friends or donated a long time ago. I'm also remarried and this is my first with my new husband.

I moved away from all my family and friends when my husband was stationed here so the women in my neighborhood wanted to throw me a shower. They insisted that I do a registry.

I was not being gift grabby or tacky. I gave them what they wanted. The shower was at my house and I cooked all day for it.

I am very thankful for the gifts that they brought. I can use them all. I just wish that since the shower and registry were their idea that they would have bought items off the registry. I did not think that was too much to ask.

Don't judge me for using a little bit of sarcasm.

  • Wow never realized this was such an issue ? Not gonna lie i watched my registry all along up until the day of my shower, and only a few things were bought off there but I did recve tons of things that I love and appreciate so much that were not on there ! I agreed with it just being a guideline for things you want, but should not count on it for things you need. We've been slowly but surely purchasing all the major big ticket items ourselves ever since we were about 5 months along. We didn't want to expect these things for friends or family.' The nice thing about a registry is that the store will send u coupons later to help u complete what you did not receive on there. That being said, does anyone have any extra of the target registry discount coupons handy that they won't be using ? Lol I added my dresser on my registry just so I could use a coupon on it myself later, except I used 2 of them already and gave
The others to my sisters to use on items they wanted to purchase me. The dresser is certainly one of the pricier items and a coupon code would help out a lot ! If anyone has an extra laying around I would love if you'd be willing to share !!! Thanks and good luck to you on your baby shower !
  • I registered only for the people who didn't know what to get, or didn't know the things we needed. I'm not going to hold it against any of them for not getting anything from the registry. It's basically just for suggestions anyway. I guess it could be frustrating, but at least you'll know what you need and don't need after your shower.
  • As for us, I'd say 85% stuck to the registry. The others bought clothes and cute stuff that we will totally use. I also kept an eye on mine up until the weekend of my shower, and it seems like almost EVERYONE went the day before or the day of, so don't let that worry you! Good luck.
  • Omg right there with you @aklove14 !!! The night before my shower only 20 out of 86 items were bought off our registry!! Being a FTM we hardly have anything we need for our little girl. The majority of people bought off registry so we ended up with a bunch of duplicate items (like three bathtubs!) And a shit ton of clothing. Yes its adorable but we didn't register for any clothes because we have been blessed with tons of hand me downs! So now we are stuck buying the real necessities ourselves (like bottles! We literately got two bottles and not even the ones we wanted!!!) I'm feeling overwhelmed because I'm on bed rest and can't exactly go out to shop for these items even though I want to be there to do it! My husband works every day so gonna have to probably send my mom to babies r us but she is doing so much for me already, I feel bad. So upsetting. I'm so thankful for the effort my friends and family put in to buy us this stuff but hard because I feel totally unprepared and frustrated :-(
  • First I want to say I am sorry that you are getting so many bitchy responses. Felt like the old bump for a hot second here.. Ignore the haters. I was eager for my registry items to be purchased too because I surprisingly was pregnant with twins which helped me make the decision to take a year off of work. Double daycare verses my salary? Yeah no haha. Anyway we were financially prepared for one baby but not two so I really do need my registry items. So yes I feel you. However, people gift what they want to gift and it's totally their choice. You're going to get a lot of things that you love whether they are on your registry or not. Also, my twins came early last week and I'm still getting gifts. Anytime people ask what I need I direct them to my registry and specifically mention 2 or 3 things that we need in different price ranges. It has worked so far. In one week since their birth we got both of our car seats, parts to the baby jogger double stroller and both rock n plays. Just be patient. Your registry will continue to be used way after your shower and even after you deliver. Buy what you have to buy but wait as long as you can. People who weren't even invited to my shower have been getting gifts. Hang in there!

  • My people didn't use my registry that much either. But we still got some great and useful gifts. I returned a few things for store credit and got what I really needed. I also had been buying things along the way when they went on sale and when I had coupons from babies r us and target and such. You can get the stuff you want for cheaper, just look out for the sales. I had some pressure from family to wait until the shower to buy things, but I would have been so screwed if I'd have waited. Relying on other people makes me nervous lol.
  • I would also research random gifts I got online (a man purse looking diaper bag), figure out where they purchased it at, and return and get a gift card. I also got 10000 blankets, onesies all in the same size, etc. Even if they don't give a gift receipt you should be able to exchange quite a bit for things you need. You may lose some credit along they way if they give you sale price etc, but if you don't need it or want it it's still worth that going to something else.
