    What are you guys thoughts on

    girls with "boy names" ..

    Hyphenated 1st names (Raven-Samone or Mary-Kate Bobbi-Kristina for example)..

    And not giving the baby a middle name ..?

    Sterling is a masculine name :/

    I like Miller for a boy. Unique but not in a weird way!

    I'm super confused by the defensiveness on this board, unless something got deleted I feel like everyone was just putting out names and than whoa....

    I'm more in the middle on unique, don't want something like John or Jane but not Agamemnon either...I love Amelia but apparently my brother in law wants to name his boy Emilio so that's out. My husband loves Ariel but I can't stop picturing the little mermaid. I like Aurora and maybe Ariella for something compromising, but my husband is difficult. No boys names I really like yet so I'm sure this will be a boy!

    It's so funny because I have read a lot of comments about this name being masculine online and it totally sounds like a girls name to me. It has a nice ring to it. Don't like it at all for a boy though. Having said that, I do tend to like more unisex sounding names that aren't super soft and girly so maybe that's why it appeals to me:) maybe nobody else likes it and I'll have the only Sterling out here;)

    I am not angry that you don't agree with me. In my OP I did not once ask "who agrees with me??!" I asked who knew of any other unique and fun names. And only you and a few others want to continuously attack everything I say. Just stop! Leave it be. Life is not rainbows and puppies and that's why I'm sticking up for myself! I'm sick of being harassed so just stop

    Many many posts were deleted bc one pretty classy lady was banned for attacking me alllllll day yesterday. Amelia has always been one of my favorites but that's my cousins name so it's kinda taken. Aurora is pretty too but I live in Denver (right near aurora, CO ;) ) so that would just be strange. I'm also have the hardest time figuring out a boys name. SO really likes Van or Alister

    My husband loves the name Sterling for a girl. We were going to use it for my daughters middle name but ended up changing it to my MIL's middle name. Its very pretty :)

    We really like Adelena Iris. Iris is my mom's name. Boys names are so much harder for us. We like Mason, Elias, Mathias but we're not set on any one of those. The first name can't end in -er b/c our last name does and I don't like the sound of it.

    I think it's time for you to let this go. You got what you wanted, no need to make fun of someone who isn't here to defend herself. Saying "many posts were deleted" is fine. 

    AND just to weigh in on the subject at hand I am a fan of unique names as long as they are recognizable as actual names. From your list I really like Mila, Poppy, and Van. One of my husband's good friends is named  Van and he's the only one I've met so I have positive associations. We are thinking of Alice or Clara for a girl and Oscar, Everett or Miles/Milo for a boy.

    I feel like this post would have been more productive if you had just reported the poster and not replied and fed into anything, then we would actually all be focused on the unique names everyone has instead of the continuing back and forth....

    Sterling for me sounds like a last name, or a thing I don't know just my opinion. I do like Harper. My husband is hispanic and wants something g crazy and traditional so I'm working on ignoring his suggestions unless they're normal. I do like Zolin but maybe not for a first name, he likes Izel. I'm on the why do you want your child to suffer side...

    Post like this make me realize that I prefer more classic names for my own children. When I was in high school I always thought I would want to name a boy Orion.

    I agree with the few posters that have mentioned thinking about it on a resume or business card. When applying for a job your name is the first impression before you get a strong skill set.

    I was thinking the same thing about Sterling, strong and smart sounding and it is a traditional British name, just for a boy. I loved Harper a few years ago but it super popular now it seems so I scratched it off my list. I know 5 women recently that used this name.

    It makes me so sad to read all of the hostility here. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm here because it's my first ever pregnancy and I like getting insight from other moms on things.

    Seriously though, if you don't like someone's choices, why be rude to them about it? Saying something as a kind opinion, like the business card thing is fine. However the comments about people with different names being unemployed and such are not okay. Most everyone here would be considered adults, so act like it.

    We're all hormonal anyway! Just take a step back and think about how some of these comments come off. I don't think the majority of people intended to be mean, but you can't exactly read a "tone".

    I'll get off my soapbox now. Happy pregnancy everyone!

    I must've missed where someone mentioned certain names insinuate unemployment. But you did not contribute to this post with anything productive regarding the topic. You're just lecturing.

    I agree with pp that classrooms will be filled with "unique" names and they will lose their luster. I like seeing old-time names coming back though.

    I went back through the entire post. No one mentioned anything about unemployment. I mentioned the resume/business card thing because it is something I never thought of until I started being a hiring manager. I am sure that it is a similar situation with others. Just offering a view that other may not have thought of.

    The posts were deleted, that's why you don't see them anymore. But many of the people here are from when the post started yesterday, so they would have seen the posts. Some of them were pretty cruel.

    Anyway, I like Ruby too, but there are a ton of them in my town. A ton of the unique names have become pretty common, especially with the younger crowds. I think the most interesting name that one of my students had this year was Slade. I'd never heard that before, but that's just me.

    My first name is super unique...Heaven. I absolutely love my name and I'm very successful in my profession despite having a unique name...I think its ridiculous to think that a child will get teased or not be given opportunities later in life due to the name they were given at birth.
    Hubby and I are in love with the name Aurora for a girl or Griffin for a little boy. Do your thing ladies and don't care what others think or say!!! We are all going to be teaching our little Bebe's to be kind to others in spite of their differences aren't we? We need to practice what we
    preach!!

    I love Aurora and Griffin :) Super cute. My husband is into other cultured names..... so we can't agree on anything! For a girl we are going with Aria (though my first choice was Aneleigh) and for a boy we have nothing. He likes "Ky" and I guess I could settle for "Kyle" if I had to, but I don't love it. Thank God we have plenty of time to think about it!

    I have 2 criteria for names: one, I picture the child trying to learn how to spell it ( maybe that's just because I was terrible at spelling) two, I agree, picture them trying to be professional with it: resumes, desk/door plaques, trying to create a business for themselves. I think most of the names listed here meet my criteria ;).
    ( we like to go with family names, but I do like some of these as well. Maybe for a middle name...)

    @hmf0245 our daughters name is Aurora and she gets compliments DAILY. She's 2. the "like Aurora borealis" and "like the princess!" From strangers gets old but you just say no and continue on with your day lol I still love her name :)
