If baby measures ahead...

Does that change your due date? They didn't change mine, but baby was measuring 3 days ahead and their head was measuring over a week ahead! Yikes! My original due date is August 2nd but hubby has to take a work trip a few hours away from home and will be back July 25th. Now that he saw how big our bub is, he is nervous about being away until the 25th. Do big babies come earlier typically?

Re: If baby measures ahead...

  • They typically do not change your due date. The most accurate measurements are early on in pregnancy, after that (I would say probably after about 12 weeks), babies grow at different rates and days ahead/behind/on track will fluxuate. Does not necessarily mean baby will come early; however I personally would be nervous in general about DH traveling so close to my due date - is it a trip he could come home from if you went into labor? Odds are as a FTM you won't go early, but it isn't impossible either. I went on my due date with DS (he was born the next day). A lot of my friends went late with their first babies.

  • I had a big baby and it was born the day after the due date.
  • @Miz_Liz That definitely makes a lot of sense! Yes, if I went into labor while he was gone, they could put him on a flight home and he'd be here within an hour or two. So that eases my nerves. My mom has said most first babies either come a little late or right on time so that's what I'm hoping for.
  • My OB won't change the due date unless there is a big difference between measurements and estimated due date.  I actually just had my due date changed to later, but the measurements were about 2 weeks off from initial calculations.  I don't think they would change it on only 3 days difference.  I went 5 days past my due date with my first, but I would also be nervous about my husband taking a trip that close to due date unless it was easy for him to get back quickly.
  • @schup156 Tell me about it! When he first told me he had to go, I was a hormonal pregnant mess! Haha! When he told me where he was going to be and that he could fly home if something happened, I felt better. My brother was a big baby and went over a week past his due date. I'm definitely hoping for an Aug. baby as it means he/she had more time in there to grow! :)
  • I asked my OB at my last appointment and he said that due dates aren't typically changed unless there is more than 7 days difference.

My original due date from day 1 was August 7th. I had my dating ultrasound at 8 weeks, and he was measuring ahead, so they changed my due date to August 3rd. I just had my 20 week anatomy scan, and they changed my due date to July 27th because he's so big! LOL!

His daddy was 10 pounds 2 ounces when he was born!!! EEEKKK!!! LOL!!! My doctor said she would probably do one more ultrasound between 32 and 36 weeks to see how big he is and to make sure they don't need to take him sooner then July 27th. She REALLY hates doing c-sections, and would rather me try to push him out vaginally!!! If his organs are really strong and developed, then she may take him at 37 weeks. We checked all his organs this past Tuesday, and everything looked perfect.

  • I know how you feel in regards to your hubby maybe not being close around the time of your due date. Mine drives for a living, and is gone weeks at a time sometimes (it sounds crazy when I type it but we are so used to this routine we don't even think about it anymore lol) I am due Aug.11th and he will be returning from a 2 1/2 week trip Aug. 4th so you can imagine the nerves! He already told me that no matter where he is he will drop everything and get to the nearest airport and find a way to get here lol. HOPEFULLY that will not be the case, at all but I still worry about that. if it happens, then we will cross that bridge when we get there. Wouldn't it be nice if I could tell the baby "wait, please hold on a few more days!" haha. :)
Always hold on to hope ❤
  • @ReD9152012 Wow!! Big big baby! My hubby was a 10 pounder also and I was 9. When I saw how big our baby's head was I couldn't even pretend to be surprised! Haha! I'm really hoping you can have him vaginally! C-sections are hard on mama's. But whatever you're feeding that kid is definitely working! ;)
  • @Marissalynn0620 Ahh! That is really close! Hopefully your little peanut will stay in place as long as they can. It would be really hard having to be there for the initial parts alone. Knowing my luck, the second my hubby gets to his destination, the baby will decide its time to come out! Haha! :)
  • Our baby girl is measuring a few days ahead, but my dr isn't changing my due date. He thinks she's just tall because my husband is very tall! Plus, I'm having a c-section August 7th, so a few days isn't enough of a difference for him to change it.

I had the same thing happen with my baby yesterday he is a week above schedule. He is supposed to be 6.7 ounces he was 9 ounces And longer than supposed to be! I just keep telling my hubby he is a chunky monkey!
  • Well with my first she measured a week ahead and she was born at 38 weeks. With this one he is measuring a week ahead so the due date has been changed to Aug 8. Most likely I feel he will also be born early.
  • yesterday the doctor told me they won't change her due date because babies grow differently. She may be ahead of the curve now, but could slow down...or vice versa.

My little guy measured 22 weeks at our 20 week US. I asked if the due date would change, but because we're trying for a VBAC, my OB wants to leave the due date to give the baby as much time as possible to come on his own. I learned the hard way with DS that over 50% of inductions end in C-section! So we'll just have to be patient!
