Kick Count Info

So I have seen a lot of posts about kick counts... and while this applies to the vast majority, please remember every pregnancy is different. Those with AP's may not ALWAYS feel the same way those without. I have tried tagging the admins to try and get this posted at the top, but for some reason, I can't tag them? Anyways, this is some really good information as we are all heading into our 3rd trimester!

I just saw one of the OB's in my office and asked today when I should start doing this and she told me 32 weeks! AND that you should feel at least 2 good kicks an hour. Why can't everyone get on the same page?!

EDIT-Not people here get on the same page, people in the medical field get on the same page!
  • Our ob center has people see multiple providers as well, because they are ALL different! My midwife that I see often said very much similar to this yesterday, so I'm sticking with it.

Every dr is different. Each of them thinks they know best. Its nerve racking

  • Does your doctor make you write down this info? I'm stressing out about this. I gave been making sure he's moving 10 times a day within a short amount of time, but haven't been keeping accurate time of it. My ob gave me a paper to fill out daily for this and I don't have specific start and end times. I didn't do this with my first pregnancy. Maybe this is a new recommendation?
I don't know why this is stressing me out so much. When my son goes to bed, I've been grading papers nonstop or doing my grad school work. This may just be more stress of everything I need to do and not enough time to do it. Ugh.

  • No, I don't have to keep a log, she just said if I notice anything unusual or decreased movements to drink a cold glass of water first and lay on the left side and rest and count some kicks... if its out of the ordinary  to call in.

  • Bump... Because this cannot be seen enough :-)
  • I have a log from my doctor, to keep record 3 times per day/ 15 mins each time, and if the total number per day is less than 10 to call. Has to be at the same time daily tho, so it's a little tricky if I'm busy. I'm trying to stay on top of it because my last pregnant I was induced at 38 weeks for low amniotic fluid. The only reason they checked was bc I noticed a rapid decrease in movement one day and they did the ultrasound and said "oh you can't go home we are inducing today." So I've asked for a 34 week ultra sound just so we can keep on top of it this time!
  • I'm glad they are being proactive with you @AshSturgis !!! Good job, mama. Fingers crossed for you that all stays well until your due date for a safe arrival. ❤️
  • My doctor said ten kicks the entire day but I've read many places ten kicks within two hours, so i just use this awesome little app called kick me to track ten kicks within two hours everyday. It makes keeping track of them daily so much easier! Ten kicks the entire day just doesn't seem like a lot especially with how much she kicks.
  • bumpity bump bump bump.

    READ THIS LADIES! seriously!

  • Good lord, I get 10 kicks in 5 minutes most of the day...I don't have time to count them all.  That being said, I get if there's a dramatic change, it's important to get checked.  Just think about how active your lo has been normally too - my co-worker's little guy was calm, and quiet all through the pregnancy - she even had to get multiple anatomy scans because he was happy just floating around in there and wouldn't turn (and was born just fine!).  My little gal HATES anything poking at me and gives even the doppler a well aimed kick when the OB checks her heartbeat.  (I think I might be in trouble, lol)
