Husband is a foot taller: higher likelihood of csec?

I'm not even 5'1" with small tight hips and my husband is 6'1", abd according to MIL he weighed 10 lbs at birth. Does this have any bearing on the likelihood that the baby will be too big for me to have vaginally? Ftm, obviously ;)

Re: Husband is a foot taller: higher likelihood of csec?

  • I don't think so. I'm 5'6" and my husband is close to 7 feet and was a huge baby himself. But our daughter was small at birth, just under 6 lbs full term. She's still slim and of avg height. You just never know.

  • You just never know...my last baby was 10 pounds, 11 ounces at birth and i delivered him vaginally with no pain meds...i would suggest being optimistic, about baby size and your capabilities, you would be amazed what you and your body are able to do. :) p.s...your hips, pelvic bone area actually widens the last few weeks of pregnancy to allow for delivery.
  • My husband was just under 10 lbs at birth, now 6'4". MIL is quite petite, around 5'2" and she was just fine!
  • Just remember the baby is still 50% you. My brother was a 10lbs baby and his first child was just under 8lbs. You just really don't know, no need to worry about it unless your doctor seems worried. My OB does a 32 week growth scan/ ultrasound to check size. Yours might, too.

  • My husband is also a foot taller than me and was 10 lbs at birth.  My biggest so far has been 8lbs 8oz.  My son who was born at 36 weeks would have been huge had he waited till his due date, but my daughter was born much smaller than her brothers even though she was born at 38 weeks.

    Married to J since 5/05, Mommy to T (10/08), L (08/10) and C (02/13) who was born at home.

  • Just because your husband was 10 lbs doesn't mean your baby will be that big. My husband was only 6lbs and something, but our son was 8lbs 10 oz.

I'm 5'6 and DH is 6'5, so almost a foot taller.  DD was 7lb15oz and DS was 8lb12oz, on the bigger side of average I guess but had both of them vaginally without a problem.  You have to think, length shouldn't matter so much and fat squishes, I wouldn't worry :)
  • My sons father was 9lbs 11 oz and he was 6 foot 6 inches !! And my son was 9lbs 7oz ! So only 4oz from his father !! It could have some impact !!!
  • My MIL is 5'1" and FIL is 6'4" she had my husband and his sister vaginally with no issues - both were average sized babies
  • My sister in law is 5' tall, her husband is like 6'4", and she had five babies vaginally :)
  • I'm 4'11 and my husband is 6'2, I had no problems pushing out my first. Took 3 hours of pushing, but I didn't even tear. Just go slow, bring some almond oil for them to use and see from there. Everyone is different so I don't want to make empty promises. But you can tell them no c-section unless absolutely medically needed. I made it very clear I was against them and that there had to be a valid reason.
  • I wouldn't worry at all. Your body won't grow a baby that is too big to birth. Even if you are overdue a week (god forbid) research has shown that your baby's growth with slow drastically to make sure he'll fit during labor! If you're worried about your LO being on the large side, forgo the 3rd tri ultrasound and your chance of C section will be slim to none.

  • My husband is 6'10'' and weighed 7lbs at birth, I am almost 6', and weighed in at 5lbs 4 oz. Parental height and size at birth are not strongly correlated. I'm sure you'll be fine, just do what you can to stay healthy
