Hello everyone. New mom to be in June. For the past 3 weeks I have had some mild pain under my right breast, nothing I was too worried about. But just today my skin has started to go numb in that area, but I still feel the pain at times. Anyone else experiencing this? Or have had this in the past? My next apt is in 1 1/2 weeks. Thinking I might call on Monday

Re: Pain/Numbness under right breast

  • Definitely ask your doctor if you're concerned. I experienced almost the same thing, no pain just numbness and what felt like a slight burning sensation. When I asked my midwife she told me that there is a nerve under our breasts that can go numb or cause pain when there is low blood flow. She said it was normal and nothing to worry about. Mine mostly was experienced when laying on my sides but she said she experienced it even when walking. Hopefully your experience is the same and nothing serious.

  • I have it on my left side - feels like I hit a funny bone. I mentioned it on a Daily Symptoms thread and several other ladies also experience it. A bigger bra helped me. Also looser clothes in general. My doc said it's my expanding rib cage and he can't help, unfortunately. But I was surprised that heartburn medicine really seemed to help it.

It makes sleeping on my side pretty painful and causes me to repeatedly roll over throughout the night. (That sounds more dramatic than it really is.) I actually get better rest on my back. Doc has no concerns if that is what is comfortable for me.

But definitely ask your doctor. Hope you feel better!
  • I would also ask my doctor because pain under the right breast can also be an indicator of preeclampsia as that is where the liver is located as well. I had the same pain and went to the doc because I was worried about preeclampsia but she did tell me that pain like this is normal and can really be a side effect of several different things. She told me mine was just caused by my ever expanding uterus and everything is being pushed on and over crowded at this point and that certainly causes new pains! Hope you get some relief soon!
  • I've had it too for over a month already, but left side. Super weird and annoying. Definitely check with your doc but probably this "normal " symptom many of us are dealing with. Hopefully it goes away right after LO is born.
