What's safe for heartburn?

I don't have an appointment for another 3 weeks with my doctor and was wondering what's safe for heartburn? Has anyone had a chance to ask a doctor or midwife this question yet?

    I used tums during my last pregnancy.

    Tums stopped working for me during my last pregnancy so I went to Zantac and ended up taking it twice a day (as soon as I woke up and an hour before bed), as recommended by my dr.

    Tums and Zantac if it's really bad. Good luck! I've been there with the first and back at it again with this baby.
