Any "surprise" babies out there?

DH and I just celebrated DD's first birthday this Sunday. We've started talking about #2 but I'm scheduled to start a new job in August and was thinking about starting to try in November so I could have maternity leave benefits. Well... Surprise surprise! Looks like instead of starting to try in November, we will be receiving a new little nugget. I'm so happy to give DD a sibling and to grow our family but I'm also feeling a little ambivalent because I don't know what this will mean for the new job. Anybody else having mixed emotions?

  • After having a miscarriage in November we decided to wait until April to try again because my husband really wanted a January baby. When I missed my period in Feb I was so excited but my husband was in shock. He's happy now haha
Hopefully our little bean sticks this time ❤
  • We wanted another one we just didn't know it was going to take 2.5 years to get it.

  • This was definitely a surprise for us.  We hadn't decided if we wanted another but we were considering it.  I was told I probably would never get pregnant on my own.  Both of my other kids are clomid babies.  So very surprised but happy and excited. :)

  • Yes. I'm 19 and we defiantly weren't planning to, but we weren't planning not to either!
  • We stopped trying 1.5 years ago, and had decided that we would adopt in another year or two from now. . .
  • Our DD turns 1 on April 22nd so we were going to start trying this summer so they would be 2 years apart (plus I loved having a spring baby) but God had different plans for us and blessed us with this pregnancy. I am a little nervous abt having babies 18 months apart plus we are in the process of moving to a new house so a lot going on :) but we are still very very excited!

Yep we are having a surprise baby and I was seriously shocked at first, but now I couldn't be happier. We already have kids and weren't planning on another quite yet, but here we go again. :)

eta: I was actually scared to tell my husband because I myself was so shocked so I thought that he would be too, but when I told him he said, "I had a feeling and was actually just thinking about it on the way home because you said you were supposed to get your period, but then I noticed you never did." So, I was actually more shocked than he was surprisingly.

  • Was never planning on kids, been married for 3 years and my husband and I just opened our own business in December, and I changed full time jobs in February. I was 1 day pregnant when i started for them...couldn't get any crazier over here
  • It was a surprise in the sense that we wanted to start trying, but didn't have any expectations about how long it would take.  It happened faster than we thought it would, and we are both still a bit in shock that I'm actually pregnant.  I'm a lot more excited now that I've had a week to process it all.

  • Definitely a surprise here. And it's my first! I just got married last month, had turned 30 in December and we talked about not waiting too long, but we just don't make enough money...
My period had been a bit irregular the last few months after doing another egg donation, so I didn't think anything of it. I always take a test if something is "off" or I'm late and it's always negative. We hadn't been using any birth control for about 4 months. I was supposed to be using the ovulation method but I'm bad at it. Plus to be honest I never thought I would easily get pregnant.
So last weekend I decided to take a test since I was late again. I was sure that wasn't it but wanted to rule it out. I was utterly shocked to see the double lines!!! I NEVER expected that. I know that sounds crazy, but I just assumed it would take a long time to get pregnant. So now here I am, anxiously waiting for my first ultrasound! Hopefully next Thursday....
  • Surprise! My fiancé and I wanted to start trying as soon as our wedding was over (July 11th/15). Five and a half months early, and will be five and half months along on our wedding day :P but still feeling so blessed and excited. I was paranoid it would take a long time for us to get pregnant once we got married, little did I know..

We were activily trying, but surprise, it's twins! Definitely was not planning on that ;-)

This was my first round of motherhood.

For us, no we weren't trying. We were actually done with having any more children but hadn't taken any permanent steps. God had other plans apparently.
  • For us it was just a surprise it happened so quick. We started trying and got pregnant IMMEADITLY we were surprised it happened so quickly since we were worried it would take a year or more but we are super happy!!

Yes It was most certainly a surprise.. I'm only 22, and I'm still in college.. as well as the army reserves. but Both my S/O and I have processed it and we are thrilled... Still haven't told our parents yet.... not sure how that's going to blow over. Keeping my fingers crossed they will be supportive and open minded about receiving a grandchild a little sooner than anticipated.

  • Yes! Not only was I on birth control ( missed two days and not back to back) but starting to plan my wedding!! I was going to call the doctor because my new BC (or so I thought) was making me sick. My sister had just told me the week before SHE is pregnant. I was in CVS later that day and decided to just buy a test to rule that out. INope! I got a BFP and made my Fiance buy more tests and I got more BFPs! Lol We were shocked! I am three weeks apart from my sister and we could not be more excited! I had my first appointment today and saw the heart beat! It's starting to get real now!! Due date November 8!
  • My fiance and I opted to go for natural birth control. The pill was starting to dry me out to the point of painful sex even with lubercant. After some research we start using Cycle Beads. First few months worked great and now surprise!! We followed it exactly and I still ended up pregnant. Not to mention our wedding is in December and I just moved from Georgia to North Carolina. Also he is in the Army and is leaving for training until June. But at least i have my tiny one to keep me company now :)
  • A huge suprise we just had a baby girl in october. But we are excited for this new baby
  • This pregnancy was a shock. After coming off the pill and tracking my ovulation to AVOID getting pregnant it took 5 days to fall pregnant. Whoops.

Ours was a little bit of a surprise. We had been trying for a few months, then decided to take a break. I actually spoiled telling my husband in a sweet way because he heard the "oh my god there's a line there" comment.
  • I was starting a new job on March 2 and my husband and I found out were expecting on February 28. We were both very surprised and I was really scared to tell my new job. In the end they were very understanding and have been awesome about the surprise news!!
  • Huge surprise! We just got married in February, and were tracking ovulation to avoid pregnancy for a few months....3.5 weeks after the wedding day, I took a pregnancy test due to feeling 'different' and was TOTALLY shocked to see the positive result! We both are soooo excited! I'm due November 24.

I got pregnant exactly the same way!
  • Mines was a complete surprise.. Me and my SO wasn't trying at all,. But not preventing either... I really thought my period was about to start and when it didn't I just tested and got a BFP
  • I had a mc 26 January this year and we decided to wait until May to try again. 4+3 after the mc I took a test, don't know why, something in my mind just told me to and SURPRISE! Turns out we conceived 12 days after the mc.
  • This will be my 4th child. I'm 9w5d today ... very unexpected we just had our 3rd child 7 months ago ... i never even got a period so was very shocked that I concived and was so far along when we found out ! ... I've been so nauseous that I went to the doctor and she sent me for blood work just incase... sure enough here we are !! ... our son will be just shy of 15 months when thus baby is due ! ... hubby had along vasectomy already in January. But not soon enough as dates show we concived only 3 days before his apointment ! ... still in shock !
  • Surprise baby here too! Our daughter turns 1 on April 17th so I'll be in the 2 under 2 club!
Still in shock and a bit in denial. Still not 100% sure when our EDD is due to breast feeding and weird cycles. I go on March 31st for a dating ultra sound.

  • I was married on January 3rd and we hadn't necessarily been using protection since november but I always thought I'd have issues conceiving, I've taken multiple tests before when I'd be late or feel strange and they were always negative, I decided to take one on March 3rd exactly 2 months after our wedding, expecting it to be negative, of course, my husband was out of town working and I went back to the bathroom to check and there were 2 lines!!! I immediately started shaking and crying, I still haven't overcome the shock and I've taken test after test since then! My hubby is so excited as am I, just still trying to comprehend everything!
  • My husband and I have been trying for four years and three months. On Feb 9th we found out our third and final IUI was negative. We decided to wait and save up for either adoption or IVF and were really stressed about figuring out how we were going to be able to pay for it. Just a month later we were very surprised to find out it happened naturally. God sure did have different plans for us than we thought.

  • My husband and I got married November 1st of last year. We took some natural family planning classes so I would know when I was ovulating. In January we decided that we were not getting any younger (I'm 25 he's 26) and neither were my parents. And since both his mom and dad passed in recent years we said why wait. Plus I have 3 very close friends who have been trying for 3, 8, and 13 years and nothing. Leave it to us to get pregnant right away.
  • I'm 19 too and I'm so scared! Wasn't planned at all! I was taking the pill but obviously it failed! My baby's father is gone and I had to get a restraining order on him. I'm so alone and idk what to do!! My parents left me to my own devices and refuse to speak to me.
  • Total surprise here too! My husband is active duty military and we weren't planning on having children for a while. He left last Friday to go to California for some Army training for a month and I found out on Monday! Still in total shock, as this wasn't planned at all. He's also set to go on his 3rd deployment in November too. I'm trying to remain positive about the situation, as this is May be Gods special way of helping me get through it (:
  • We just had a baby girl Dec 6 & wanted to have a second. Have a promotion starting in May at work too. Came a bit earlier than we expected! They'll only be 11months apart!
