Probiotics

I tried searching but I didn't get exactly what I was searching for. Are any of you ladies taking probiotics? Did your OBs recommend a certain kind? Has any STM/TTM taken them during all pregnancies? Any recommendations? I've got a note into my doctor but I'm sure he won't have a recommendation, maybe just a yes or no. Ha

Re: Probiotics

  • Garden of life raw probiotics for women . I took them prior and now they help my tummy a lot

  • Do you think it'll matter if I haven't taken them prior to pregnancy. Ugh. The nurse replied with just the generic "safe for pregnancy medications"
No probiotics on there. But really. These aren't medication. That's why I want to use them. Where did you get yours? Online? Health food store?
  • Health food store. In the refrigerator and when you get them home keep them in the fridge!
  • I use align which was recommended by my doctor before I was pregnant. My midwife okayed them as well. The only warning I will through out there is the fact the it takes 1-2 months to acclimate to probiotics. While probably TMI, I was so irregular for the first 8 weeks or so using them I was ready to cry. Once those two months passed I was much better. But I would be wary of starting them now since you don't want more issues with constipation.
  • My husband has a prescription for heavy duty probiotics. He really suffered with stomach problems. He is virtually cured after 10 months. I agree, they aren't medicstion so should not pose any threat to pregnancy. Whole foods has a whole selection in their refrigerated health care selection. The ones my husband has are 10 times the amount of cultures that I've seen in stores but they cost $100 per month. With the script from the pharmacy we pay $45.

  • Thanks ladies! Oh man @Eliza040502 that's true. It's horrible. It probably would compound the situation.
  • I found a gem. New chapter perfect prenatals, they have a probiotic built in.

  • I take trubiotics and have had several OBs tell me its safe. I've never had the constipation issue even when I first started taking them.
  • I take PB8. Definitely get a refrigerated brand.
Sometimes if you start with a high dose they will clean you out so to speak. You could always start with 1 & work up to 2 if you are worried.
