This is not my first child, and I have had many failed attempts at Breastfeeding. This time around I would really like to get a book for a resource to help me along with issues that may occur.

Does anyone have any suggestions to books or references that I can use?

Thanks in Advance

Re: Breastfeeding

  • I have heard the Womanly Art of Breastfeeding is good. However, I was reading reviews on Amazon last night and I don't know if it's the book for me.

I'm getting the book "Nursing Mothers Companion" from my insurance.

Last night I ordered two books about c-sections that go into breastfeeding.

If after those books, I'll buy Womanly Art.

Last pregnancy, one of my sons wouldn't latch for the life of me. We only got him to latch once and that was with the lactation consultant working with us for 3 hours. His twin had no problem and I was able to make enough milk for 1.5 kids through pumping. If my non latching kid was a singleton, I probably would have tried harder but since I had two mouths to feed...I resorted to pumping and bottle feeding. I hope breast feeding works this time around

  • Kellymom.com is the best resource I've ever found. Just in case you haven't stumbled across this one yet :)
  • Kellymom is great! Your local breastfeeding association should have classes too. Also, figure out what the issue was last time, for many women it's a painful latch, breastfeeding should not hurt much at all, if any after the first week or so if the latch is good. Investing a in really good breastfeeding pillow like mybrestfriend really helped me as it positions the baby perfectly. You can only read so much, you really need someone to show you, so the midwives when you give birth are a great resource. Btw I had initial BF probs but then went on to BF for 13 mths so you can do this! But remember if it doesn't work out, don't blame yourself :)
