September 2015 Moms

Bigger ladies and their bumps!

Hey ladies! I'm a large girl (size 24 to be exact) and I'm really worried about never having a bump. Have any other ladies (who've had children before) got any advice or wisdom on this matter? Will I get a bump? And if so, when should I expect to start showing?

Peanut is due September 16th 2015 and I'm currently 13+6.

Looking forward to hearing your views!

Re: Bigger ladies and their bumps!

  • I was a sz18-20 with my first. There was an awkward period of "is she gaining weight or pregnant?" After about week 20 the bump won out and it was obvious I was pregnant. I'm currently a sz 20-22ish and 13 weeks pregnant with my second. I can see and feel a difference, but no visable bump as of yet. Just be patient :)

  • I'm a size 18 and am 16w today and the bump is barely there but making its way out slowly. I have just felt like I had a boob job and a beer gut for awhile ;)
  • I'm a size 22 and with my first I started to show at 20 weeks. There was no guesting I was pregnant not just fat.
  • This was me at 32 weeks with my first and I'm a size 20. I got way bigger than this also I just can't find the picture. I started showing around 25 weeks.

But my son was also 11 lbs. haha.

Wear maternity clothes it helps a lot! You will show don't worry!

  • I am a 14-16 and I can definitely tell a difference at 13w4d.  Of course my belly sticks out more once I eat, but it also it protruding throughout the day.  I am also in that awkward "has she just gained some weight or is she pregnant" stage.  Hoping that it is over very soon!!
  • I'm a size 18 but in misses. Wear maternity clothes, it helps round out the bump. I'm 13 weeks and just started. In my regular jeans, I look like a need to lay off the donuts. ... but in maternity jeans I look pregnant.
  • I'm a 16W and this is my first baby. My regular jeans don't fit, so I have one of those belly bands that allows me to wear them unbuttoned. The band rounds things out. I feel like I just look chubbier, but since I've actually lost about 10lbs, my face is a little thinner. I'm worried I won't get a bump until a lot later, but like the other ladies say, maternity pants can really round things out and help you look more pregnant. I think once I announce at work, I'll wear more maternity style clothing...
  • I'm a 16 and I am showing so much more then when I was a 6-8 when my first two children. I'm 13 w 3 days and I already feel out of breath walking up stairs and stuffed after eating small meals. I have 6 months to go and I hope I am not massive at the end.
  • This is how big I am and it's not a poop baby because it doesn't go away even when I go.
  • This is 13 weeks with my daughter, 1st pregnancy
  • This is 13 weeks with my son, second pregnancy at 13 weeks.
  • I feel super huge today, much bigger then the picture I just took on Saturday.
  • I went from a size 22 to a size 18 (dropped 40 pounds) before getting pregnant. I'm 13+4 today and I can't SEE a bump, but I can definitely FEEL a bump. My jeans no longer button. Lol!

I just realized this today.... Looking forward to shopping this weekend! I'm 14w4d, have recently lost 90lbs and am wearing a size 14, I feel fat again, but it's just my baby! Thanks for posting this reply, im sure this realization will make me feel better about myself.

  • I'm a size 14 but pretty short. I think you can see my bump, but it could easily be confused for chub. This picture was a miracle of positioning. I was 12 weeks. Ignore my goofy face ;)
  • @kehags : I too am a short 12/14, my bump looks pretty much just like yours! I've been wearing leggings and long flowy tops, I feel like i look terrible in jeans at this point!
  • I'm in a size 14/16 depending on jeans 14's are getting tight :( 5th baby n feel like I'm already showing. IDK if its bc my youngest daughter is only 14 months or what. With my daughter I started showing at about five months.
  • I'm not sure what sizes I am but I'm 212 lbs and 5'5. Just turned 13 weeks this week and I can tell I have a bump! Co-workers have kindly started commenting on it. I no longer care if people might think it's weight because I know I'm pregnant :)

I look forward to some more definition of it though.
  • I'm a size 16 in pants but really carry my weight in my mid section. I've not gained weight but have lost it...my stomach has pooched out. I'm 14 +2 ppl probably just think I've gained weight. When I had my first I didn't look pregnant until I was 5 almost 6 months.
  • I'm 12w5d and size 18-20. I was a size 38/40 but lost over 265 pounds. Now that my pants are getting snug my head is so messed up. The thought of getting bigger really scares me. I can't wait to have a bump but the baby is still hiding under my excess skin. I was planning on having baby first then having my tummy tuck for the excess skin.
  • I usually just look like I'm gaining weight but the other night when hubby and I went out to dinner I wore a dress and a very very light shapeware that have me the cutest baby bump.
  • I'm a bigger gal, and have to agree with all the PP comments - my belly, which is truly more fat than baby at this point, magically changes to a cute little baby bump in maternity clothes :). I'm almost exactly the same size as I was with baby #1, and at about 20 weeks I just popped out before. You could def tell it was baby and not just chubbiness.

  • What is this band everyone one keeps talking about?
  • What is this band everyone one keeps talking about?

A belly band is a small Lycra band that you put over your jeans. It allows you to wear your jeans for a bit longer as you can wear them unbuttoned. Not sure if you seen the info-mertial about the band to cover plummers crack???? That's exactly what it looks like.
  • Man your awesome! What a great perspective to have
  • So what about being bigger and maternity pants? Anyone have the problem that when you carry a little extra in the middle and then put those jeans on they come down so low that the band doesn't hold anything in and just makes you look fatter? I am going shopping today and hope to find something I can wear other than sweats. I am also a nurse and go from scrubs to sweats lol
  • @lmcissne  Omg, i bought some pants with the little pannel and they made me laugh.....i currently have on the full pannel jeans and they are so much more comfortable

  • Oh my goodness. Thank you for making this thread. I was beginning to think the world was full of size 6 mommies only. I'm a 14/16 and carry my weight in middle. Right before I found out I was pregnant I lost 10 pounds in a intense cleanse I was doing. I've only gained 1.5 pounds. Do you curvy ladies have stretch marks already? I seriously developed strippes on the sides of my belly button at about 9 weeks! Wth! I'm 13 weeks today and I just don't get it! My boobs aren't getting stretch marks and they are significantly fuller. They seem the getting bigger and bigger. It's very disturbing!

Same, and has everyone seen that 8 month pregnant girl in her undies that still has abs?  I want to celebrate her, but i hate her too LoL  But we have a summer coming up that are going to be filled with maxi dresses and I for one, cant wait for all that

  • Feeling the same way. I'm an 18/20 and I feel like the only thing sticking out is fat! Glad to have a support group on here
  • I'm a size 16 and this is my third I was a lot smaller with my first I was about a size 12 and I didn't actually look pregnant that time until around 28 weeks even the nurses at the doctors office at my 20 week appointment said I didn't look pregnant at all and asked if I was sure I was 20 weeks lol with my second I was bigger and started showing at about 16ish...this time I'm a little smaller then with my second but not much but I am almost 15 weeks and I feel like 6 months. I'm not sure if this is because this is my third and my body was just like oh your pregnant ok I got this or its just my extra chub and it just makes me feel more pregnant lol I have actually lost about 6 lbs with all the morning sickness I have had. But my stomach is definitely rounding out. Like everyone else said the maternity clothes really helps round out your stomach and make you look actually pregnant. But I have already gotten about about 6 maxi dresses for this summer I will be excited for the maxi dress and flip flop season! I have one summer baby and one winter baby and the full flops are definitely helpful with the swelling! I used to have to have my husband pull off my boots in the winter lol it was horrible!
  • What brand of maternity jeans or pants are yall buying? I am currently in Macys and the selection is slim to none! And even the xl are small like I can get them to my thighs and that's it. I'm usually a size 20 give or take.
  • Here is my bump! I just popped out the other morning. Usually I wake up and it's all flat, but no longer. I'm showing so much earlier this time around. I'm a size 8/10, but I've lost some weight and I've moved down to a medium, yay! I'm so excited to have an actual bump instead of looking like I ate too much!

  • For work I have to wear dress clothes (slacks, skirts, blouses etc) I found maternity dress pants @ motherhood (amazing store). I found jeans at Ross (I'm a size 20) and they feel incredible! My pants started being too tight around week 9! Oh btw today makes 15 weeks! :D
  • I carry weight in my belly-- I'm a 12/14 now but down from an 18/20 two years ago. Maternity pants made me feel so much better!! I got mine at Old Navy and I'm literally so much more comfortable- and happy that I actually fit comfortably into my size- it's really all belly. Sometimes I feel big, but recently I'm feeling my belly is getting hard!! Yay baby!!! (I'm 16 weeks)
