August 2015 Moms

is it just me or do you feel this way??

Does anyone else hate it when you are in that awkward pregnancy phase where your belly is definitely out there, you can't fit into your normal shirts and pants anymore yet the bump is not cute and round yet and people say to you they wouldn't have ever known you were pregnant unless you had said something? I don't know whether to feel flattered or annoyed... it just makes me feel like I was chunky to begin with because if you don't see this belly growing and wonder what is going on then I am baffled! ha

  • I feel this way, my bump is not too cute yet, I mostly do look fat.
but I think people say that because they don't want to say "oh thank goodness, I thought you were just getting fat"  or "Are you pregnant?" which many women find offensive, especially if they are not pregnant.

  • Ha I agree I know it's a touchy subject but I really would welcome an acknowledgement instead of a wow I would have never known when it's clearly out there :)

  • To be honest, I don't think there is anything any one can say related to my size that isn't likely to irritate me these days. I've had people comment on how big my bump is (maybe it's twins!) and the wow you wouldn't even know you were pregnant. Both make me cringe and wonder how fat do people think I am.

I think it's just people feeling a little awkward and assuming they need to say something in order to be polite. Which I don't get... why does being pregnant make my body an appropriate topic of conversation?
  • my bump isnt even visible to anyone :( but to me I feel big. no clothing helps and all my clothes make me feel and look fat :( anyone have tricks on clothing like certain style of shirts or pants ?
  • Yoga pants work great as beginning maternity pants! But who knows for how long! Target is great to get them, and usually around $14
  • I have been hiding under a bulky sweater at work. I bought a few empire waist blouses so it fans out over my there but not defined bump. So i do look cute pregnant but not fat. (Hopefully) i had one co worker tell me i was going to be huge... to which i replied she was right to a private opinion. It definitely stinks that people think its open game to comment and question pregnant people.
  • I deff feel this way! I still fit in my jeans (because they were a size too big pre pregnancy) so what I do is just wear looser (like empire waist) shirts or maternity shirts I feel like this way I don't look just chunky since I don't look cute pregnant yet. We actually have this one friend (one of my husband's marines) who keeps going 'Are you fat yet?' And I kind of want to punch him every time he says it.
  • Totally agree...I was heavy to begin with, so most people haven't noticed a thing, while gals who are tiny to start already have a cute belly by this point...I just seem fatter...
  • I'm at this point also. Maternity pants are too big and my regular pants fit, but are uncomfortable. I really just look fat right now. I guess it's a stage everyone goes through, my bump will be bumpin' in a few weeks!
  • Definitely!  I'm still wearing regular pants (ones I saved that were a size too big) but I'm wearing either sweatshirts or maternity tops.  The maternity tops have a better fit and I think they give me a more pregnant bump look instead of just chunky.  I have some maternity pants I'm try to hold off using as long as possible, because I never really found them that comfortable.  I hate this in between phase when I just feel fat and the bump isn't as obvious!

im small built and I dont have a bump I look fat still. but im a FTM too so it may take longer but im getting there slowly but surely im short too so thats another factor. and I definitely hate when peopleare like you dont look pregnant and im like oh wow that was nice . people honestly expect women to show right away when thats not what happens it takes longer if its your first or other things , they act like they know everything.
  • I look like a lard ass, or at least I feel I look that way.I swear my ass is growing at the same rate as my tummy. Some days it's out there other days I just look like I binged on big macs...I get a lot of weird comments like they didn't know, or couldn't tell I am pregnant, or wow I'm so small or wow I'm getting big so soon /:)
  • I feel the same. It's so horrible when you are visibly bigger but not look exactly pregnant yet. I'm about 20 weeks now and have gained 4 pounds so far but looks like I've gained a whole lot more than that I feel the need to kee my hands on my belly when people I am aquantences with stare like wow she's gotten fat I say ya I've gained a bit but I am due in August with another son. It gets annoying I'm at the point I rarely go anywhere anymore. But I am starting back to the gym lol

I get one of two comments either "you look like there is a little pudge (which I hate) or you can't even tell your pregnant (which I also hate). I think I should come to the realization that most people don't have a clue it bothers me. I can still make it to the gym unnoticed so far but everyone is pretty quiet there (oddly enough I love the gym for that reason)
