November 2015 Moms

When are people announcing and how?

I've had it in my head that I want to wait until I find out the sex of baby then announce it publicly by taking a photo of the colour ribbon on belly, obviously close friends and family will know before!

I think I've got a bit of persuading or compromising with partner as he wants to announce it after 12 week scan!

Anyone else waiting to tell everyone or can't wait and any creative ideas?

Re: When are people announcing and how?

  • I'm definitely waiting! I'm a little paranoid at the moment and so I just want to wait, to make sure everything is ok.

  • I'm 6 weeks and we've only told parents & siblings so far, we're going to tell friends and the rest of the family after the 12 week scan
  • We're waiting until the 12 week scan.. On countdown to the day!
  • We have only told my mom and stepfather so far, but we are going to tell the rest of our family before Easter. Everyone else we won't tell until after my first appt, which is on April 8th or once I'm 13 weeks, I haven't decided yet.

  • We've already had 2 scans due to recently having an ectopic so I've told close family, I doubt I will be able to hold it in after my 12 week when you see the little hands and legs :)

But the idea of finding out the sex of baby taking a picture of little bits and bobs would be so surprising as I didn't think I could have a successful pregnancy again!

I suppose I will have to wait and see! Either way I will try announce it in a creative way :)
  • I'm going to wait till I see the heart beat at my 6 week apt then announce.
  • I told my mom right away -- I'd already mentioned to her that I thought I was pregnant, so I didn't mind telling her.  We told MIL just a couple days ago.  I have no problem announcing early, although I'm waiting until my first appointment to tell the rest of the family.  I bought DD#1 a "Best Big Sister" t-shirt, so we'll probably send people a picture of her wearing it.

  • We've told our families but we are waiting to announce to everyone else until after my 1st appt on March 20th. I'll be 7 weeks then.

After 12 weeks.. And I've been scouring the internet trying to find cute ways to announce it.. I had a friend spill the beans with a due date written on a chalk board and jars of beans spilled over. For spilling the beans. It was totally adorable but obviously I can't copy her. Lol I might have a shirt made for my daughter saying promoted to big sis or some such thing..
  • I love the idea about the chalk board and the t-shirt! I've been looking on Pinterest for ideas, which I've seen a few. I must seem crazy for wanting to wait so long I just want to suprise everyone, but I'm sure it'll be hard to especially with family and my little boy as well!
  • @mwaid I've seen a lot of people do the "eviction notice" on the crib of their older child, which is cute.  I had another friend who posted a pic of her first holding pictures of the ultrasound with "This was his reaction to learning he's getting a little sister."
    Anniversary

  • We just made phone calls and sent text messages or told people when we saw them. I'll do something fun when we know if its a boy or girl.

  • We told our parents/siblings right away, but outside of that we won't be going public until sometime in 2nd tri. No idea how we'll announce it yet. I've toyed with the idea of a shirt that says "running for 2" or a photo with our 3 dogs.

  • @happylife7, I wanted to do a cute Easter announcement, but I would at least want to wait until my first appointment, which isn't until the first Monday of Easter.  Boo.
    Anniversary

  • We told our parents and my this weekend by giving them a picture frame with a photo of our dogs saying my mom and dad are getting us a human! We didn't get to tell my sister and brother in law because they announced they're pregnant this weekend and we wanted to let them have their time (the gave parents cards with a picture that said first comes love, then comes marriage and then comes... (us pic)). We'll tell everyone else after first us on 30th. Trying to find more cute ideas!
  • We told immediate family members by putting an Appleseed in a cute little box that I had decorated and it said 'This is the size of your new grandbaby'. My sister was in from out of state and we won't see her again until June. Had to tell her over the phone with last pregnancy and wanted to make it special for her.

Oh man! Check out Pinterest! I just typed in "April pregnancy announcement" and there were all kids of ideas! I think you could still get away with an Easter announcement a few days after Easter. I saw a funny one that said "Our Future Tax Deduction is due to arrive September 2014" Good luck to you!

  • I told my best friends and sister through text message of the test. Told a couple people at work. Want to tell my inlaws when we see them over Easter which would put be around 10 weeks. I have my first appt a few days prior so will see how it goes. May wait to tell my parents until 12 bc I know my mom will tell my aunts and her friends. Might to tshirts for neice and nephews since it's their first cousin. The tax thing is funny. We have two little dogs so Prob something with them for everyone else.
  • We told my mom and sister. Waiting til 1st appt April 10 (I'll be 9 weeks), but we are going on vacation next week with a bunch of friends and afraid it will come up and I'm just not ready to announce it....
  • After telling parents on both sides, I don't think I will be able to wait any longer now! 12 weeks is when I think!

We told our parents, and he told his sisters, and we have both cherry picked a handful of friends, but have not made a public announcement. Since this is our first, we are very eager to blab, but since this is our first, I want to be cautious. One friend said we should wait until 27 weeks, which is a viable age for a premie. I don't think I could or would wait that long. I think we will announce at 10 or 12 weeks.
  • We told a handful of people through last week since we found out last Monday. The rest, I think, will wait until my 8 week appointment on April 2nd. Maybe a couple of weeks longer if I can hold out but I'm a blabbermouth and am so excited! My SO has been patient with me and is waiting for me to make the decision.
  • Our parents and sisters know, and the rest of the world will know in early May. We are going to take my son looking into the oven with a note on top saying, " Mommy says there is a bun in the oven, but I don't see anything." He is 2.
  • My DH has announced to all of his coworkers and I'm tiptoeing around mine.  Our social lives don't cross so his were safe people to tell but I don't get to play along quite yet.  My friend ans supervisor knows, but noone else at work because there are so many work transitions going on right now and I feel guilty :/  I haven't been to the doctor yet, and I think I will wait until then (week 8).  Its only 2 weeks away at this point.

We've told both our parents, and my sister who is a mother, but none of our friends other than my supervisor who is my closest friend.

No exciting cutesy ways for me to announce though.  We are more blurt-ers and announcers by nature :)

Wow.  They are super cautious.  I could never wait that long, no matter how paranoid I might be.

  • We aren't telling anyone until 13 weeks and I don't know when we will announce to others....maybe after the 18-20 week scan.

We had a loss in dec and a loss in June. Definitely not thinking of cute ways to tell people. We are too nervous for that to even sound appealing. If we can get away with it we may wait to tell our five year old until 20 weeks.

  • We told our parents, but everyone else has to wait until 12 weeks. . . We are both pretty nerdy, so we're going to get a maternity tshirt that says either "Loading . . . Please wait" or "Expansion pack. . . Out in November" Take a pic of me wearing it, and post to FB

We each told out best friends right away so we had someone to talk to during the early weeks. My first appointment is the Friday before Easter, so we are telling both sets of parents together that weekend! I think I am going to make a little Easter basket for everyone that has a onesie that says "I love my grandma/grandpa" and eggs with pacifiers inside that say our due date and "we're pregnant!" Might find a couple other cute things to put in. It's killing me to wait, but I don't want to get their hopes up until we have the reassurance of that first appointment. We'll call our siblings same day and slowly start telling other close friends in person after that.
  • So far only My sister, his mom, and a couple of my close friends know. I am waiting to tell the rest of our families until we hopefully see a heartbeat at 8 weeks on April 7th. This is my second pregnancy though and I am already wearing a maternity shirt today to hide the very obvious round bloat belly I am rocking, so I doubt I will make it to second tri before announcing. With our first we waited until 14 weeks.

To announce I am going to make DS a "BIG BRO" shirt (iron ons at hobby lobby) and make a sign saying:

  • I called my parents, siblings, my in laws and my very best friend. Then my MIL spilled it to everyone.....but Im still gonna do a special announcement with a photo of my husband's and my glasses with a smaller pair in the middle saying "we'll see you in November"!
  • We are still debating when to tell. I wanted to wait longer this time.
With my daughter, we found out I was pregnant 4 days before Mother's Day and told my parents on Mother's Day because it was my late grandma's birthday and just felt right. We told the ILs the next week. The rest of the family around 9-10 weeks.
I was hoping to wait until Mother's Day again this time- I will be 11.5 weeks. But that seems so long!
I'm thinking Easter now, but we won't have even seen our midwife yet.
I guess it depends on how I feel.
My mom is coming here in 2 weeks for my birthday, it's going to be hard to hide!
  • I just had a niece on the 4th and she's my mom's first the day she came home from the hospital I told my parents and siblings I was pregnant and my closet friend knows but as far as announcing I want to hear the baby's heartbeat April 2 at 7 weeks
  • We've told a few friends so far but no family yet! I plan on having our daughter wear a big sister shirt at her birthday party next month!
Side note: it's been a bitch to find something that says big sister in 12month!

  • I'm 6 weeks and we told both sets of parents and siblings only thus far. With this being our first pregnancy, we want to wait until we finish up the first trimester before telling friends and extended family.
