I had my monthly checkup a few days ago and mentioned to my OB that it was getting hard to breathe. I had asthma as a child, but no issues in at least 15 years. He took one listen to my lungs and said that I had severe asthma. He prescribed the albuterol inhaler. I asked if it was safe, and he said yes, and also that baby getting enough oxygen outweighs any minor possible risks. Hope this is helpful, feel better!
I use a Proventil inhalor, I believe it's albuterol sulfate. My ob said it was ok to keep using it. I had asked her about it during my first ob appointment.
My doc said the same: it's better for the baby to get oxygen! That I should not take it if I don't need it, but if I do, go right ahead and take the albuterol! I did go off my claritin and all else.
I was never officially diagnosed with asthma but I've suspected I have a mild case that flares up with exposure to allergens, etc for a long time. When I got sick around 17 weeks I was congested in my chest and wheezing, wheezing. I went to the Dr and they gave me an albuterol inhaler to use to breathe easier. I used it for about a week at night to help me to breathe without gasping. I still have it beside the bed in the event I feel like I'm trying to breathe thru a straw
Agreed... Doctor approved my asthma inhalers as well. Suggested really trying to control with environmental changes but if that wasn't enough it was safe to use the inhaler. Better breathing with the inhaler then the alternative. Good luck hope it eases up for you!
I've been using my albuterol religiously since this spring weather in AZ is bringing all these allergens. And I have been on advair for all 3 pregnancies too. It's totally ok!
I am on a daily dose of singular to help regulate my breathing but also use my inhaler from time to time and I want to say I could still use my nebulizer if need be
Really glad you started this topic op. I totally thought of this late last night when baby was crowding my lungs. My asthma is pretty mild and I don't use my inhaler unless I'm really struggling but with all the dog hair and pollen my lungs sure could use the relief.
Same here. I have proair and advair my asthma is horrible all the time but definitely kicks it up a notch when I'm pregnant. My doc also said baby getting air outweighs the medicine.
I have severe Asthma too, since I was about 3-4, and Im 26 now. With my first pregnancy, I did have a c section, but not because of my Asthma. My son was breech, and if he hadnt have been, I would have delivered vaginally. However, when I reached about 28-30 weeks, I started having problems, as he got bigger it got harder and harder for me to breathe. At about 32 weeks, I had to go in for an ultrasound once a week to see if he was getting enough oxygen and once a week to my OB for an NST. I was pregnant over the summer with him, and Im super worried because Im going to be pregnant thru the winter with this LO. I normally have attacks in the winter when Im not pregnant...
